from 2018-2021 i made a graphic novel called PIECE BY PIECE, JUST AS YOU ARE (renamed PIECE BY PIECE: THE STORY OF NISRIN’S HIJAB) and it was published by Abrams Amulet in November of last year. I’ve been on a book tour since a little before that.

PIECE BY PIECE has been in lots of school curriculums this year. i’ve spoken to lots of kids who liked it! and a few who were very scared by it! it is about violence, racism, misogyny, and self acceptance in the face of those things. i hope that this book is worth how triggering i imagine it must be for kids who are like how i was back in 2002.

i tried to draw things as generally as possible, to apply to as many people as possible and also to mitigate trauma reactions. but if you’re struggling and the topic of trauma upsets you too much right now, i encourage you to read something else!
