Sitting outside enjoying the chickens. I haven't updated this blog in a while. There's been a ton of stuff going on, yet not a lot to report happening! If that makes sense. I'm going to be doing some more work tomorrow so, I'll try to post an update then as well.

Incubating Babies!!!
So we decided to give it a try. We ordered hatching eggs from a reputable supplier, Ayam Cemani and Mosaic chicken eggs. Currently on day seven, but this photo was taken the day before we turned on the Turner and heat. Had to let the air cell settle a little after being shipped.

Plastic bottle planter and seed starter: Cut a bottle in half, remove the cap, invert the top end and insert it into the bottom end. The bottom end acts as a tray as well as a humidity source. Thread a wick for self-watering  trybackyardfarming.com

Red Solo Cup...
We've been busy working on transplanting all of the tomatos and pepper plants into larger containers. So they have a little more time to grow before we stick them in the big scary yard!

New chicks!
Haven't posted in a bit. Figured I'd post a few photos of the newest chicks to the flock. We got four of them, and they are Russian Orloffs. They are currently critically endangered. So we will be helping to bring the breed back to farms all over! Btw, that's Brad in the picture.

Got bugs??
If you have bugs in the garden, one way to combat them naturally is with toads! Build a few toad houses for your garden and let nature run its course! Here's a niffty link to create your own toad houses.

First dose of real sunshine!
Took all the seedlings outside to start hardening them off. Just for an hour today. But figured I'd share a photo of them soaking up the Ray's!

One of the new babies. Took it out to handle it so they are a little more friendly as adults.

Brahma Chicks...
Currently driving to pick up two baby Brahma chicks to add to our flock. Really excited!! These will get pretty big (females stand at two feet, males three feet). Only getting two to start with (brooder is going to be full). Hoping we get a male and female.

Sunflowers and cucumbers...
Started quite a few seeds indoors a few days ago. They've all sprouted, and are roughly 4" tall already...going to have to get them in the ground relatively soon!

Cucumbers Sprouting!
I just started these indoors two days ago. And I already have four plants sprouting. Pretty sure this is going to be a good season! Tomatoes and peppers took off like rockets, I will most likely be moving them into the paper like plant cups as they may get too big for the things I have them in now, and planting outside isn't an option yet as the temperature is fluctuating too much yet for my liking.

Planning!
Most likely tomorrow or Saturday, we will be starting to plan were we will be putting the different garden spaces in the yard. Since we have about 4 acres, we won't be using all the space. We will mark everything off first, then possibly till it this weekend.
