What’s the original source material like?
⚰️ Unfortunately I have not had the privilege of being able to watch Clan. I know, I know, I run a blog for all things Bad Sisters & have never watched Clan, I genuinely feel awful about that & would like to rectify that one day but it's hard to track it down, I cannot find a DVD that’s in my price range or a place to watch online. If you have questions about Clan, the blog to ask would be @thegenderfucker they are indeed the expert on the original source material.
I have so many questions about the original source material, anon, so, so many such as:
⚰️ Was there more attempts to kill The Prick? & if so what & how detailed?
⚰️ What else do we learn about the Sisters?
⚰️ Does original Bibi actually get a canon job description instead of just a social media comment from the crew? Do we learn more about Bibi in general?
⚰️ How is Bibi’s autism depicted across the series, is it actually spoken of? Are the original script dialogue for “The Prick” about the food on her plate more like her original character in Clan because as someone with autism, learning that original Bibi was originally autistic in the source material & yet is not stated to be (although the signs are there) in Bad Sisters was a great source of disappointment & annoyance.
⚰️ Do we learn how long original Grace has been with that thing for?
⚰️ Does original Becka end up with Matt or that Joe from series 2?
⚰️ Do they give original Eva a decent partner or leave her single?
⚰️ Does original Ursula have less or more reasons to cheat & if so does her marriage end?
⚰️ Do the Sisters have better endings then what series 2 imposed on them?
⚰️ Is series 2 of Bad Sisters completely brand new material or was any of it inspired by Clan?
⚰️ Is The Prick as scary, horrific & creepy as he is in Bad Sisters? How much of that is Clan? Was all of the characterisation taken from Clan or is Claes Bang's version just genuinely that level of sickeningly terrifying?
⚰️ Do we know why original Roger is just randomly still there hanging around the original version of the cabin for hours the night the suffering ends after leaving in the mid afternoon?
⚰️ Does Gabriel get a better storyline?
⚰️ Are the original Williams' family still Swedish. I often wondered if that was a nod to the original source material as JPrick's Posh British accent has always confused me.
⚰️ Is there more lore on the original Laura Williams?
⚰️ Does Minna still die?
⚰️ Is The Prick confirmed to be a serial killer like how the Bad Sisters' version comes across as?

I know they were going for a red herring but I wish Fiona Shaw's Angelica had been the main villain, I think she was more unsettling and it felt like they later on ignored the fact later that she was being creepy with Blanaid (did I spell her name right?) just don’t think the Cormack guy was a very strong villain but then again was anyone going to come off as horrible as The Prick? He was just so creepy, the writing and acting were terrifying, does that guy ever not play an insufferable villain?
⚰️ The only thing that stopped Angelica from being my second favourite character in the finale was because I could just not forget the creepy grooming situation with Blánaid. I do think they should have committed to her being the main villain or have chosen someone else (Joe because there could have been a lot of potential there) I don't think after Grace's horrific death that they needed some big shock reveal about the villain (I mean personally when they cut away from Grace & Cormac's fight I thought it was clear he was headed to be the villain) & that Angelica would have been enough because Fiona Shaw was incredible & I genuinely found her unnerving & I think she came off as more of a realistic villain like The Prick was because there was too many contradictions & issues with Cormac's overall story which I've talked about in another ask. I do think Owen McDonnell did an incredible job of dialling it up from 0 to 100 in such a short space of time but yeah, ultimately for me at least, Angelica fit the villain role better.
⚰️ Oh, anon, I cackled at the last part of your ask. That takes me back to a very horrific part of my English literature degree in 2020 in which a favourite novel of mine was butchered in an adaptation I had to study that he was in & is the reason why I very nearly passed on watching Bad Sisters when I had the opportunity to watch it but alas, I really like Anne Marie Duff's performances & that won out. My opinion on his acting abilities has changed since watching Bad Sisters but I personally cannot answer this one & would say ask his fanbase 😂

⚰️ Until I came across your posts, I never knew that Bibi was supposed to be autistic & I am autistic, did I have headcanons about this? Yes but I had no clue that the character she was based off was actually canonically autistic. I recently read the original script for “The Prick” after hearing that it was out there & that implied she was autistic but it's never said & that scene never made it to the actual episode.
⚰️ Now aware of this, I honestly find it incredibly disappointing. If the writers felt out of their depth writing an autistic character they could have a) asked an autistic person or even hired an autistic writer or b) seeing as this is a remake, asked the original writers.
⚰️ It is virtually impossible to track Clan down in the UK on DVD (believe me, I've looked). I'm not sure it even exists. I would love to see it one day & see the differences & similarities between the two shows.
It is absolutely insane to me how Bad Sisters has completely ignored Bibi's canonically established autism in the source material. Like I never see anyone else talk about it because they completely removed the overt references to her autism, no one in the cast or crew has ever even referenced it, no news articles or reviews mention it, and the original series Bad Sisters is based on is nigh impossible to get your hands on.
In the weeks leading up the release of the first season of Bad Sisters, there was emphasis on the fact that they improved on the diversity front except they conveniently don't mention that a major character's autism was written out (and by "written out" I mean "they kept almost all of the original character's autistic traits, they just made her more palatable to general audiences and removed the times she was explicitly named as autistic")

Am I the only one who thought the second season didn't make much sense?
⚰️ I'm half & half on this one, to be honest, Anon. Definitely thought there were elements that didn't make sense. I mean there were times I thought the Garvey sisters are daft for sure but they're not THAT stupid. I genuinely am curious to know if there were any other ideas for this season other than what was unleashed.
⚰️ As Grace was my second favourite character I feel like I am biased but to me personally, I feel like the point of the show just goes away with her being dead. (& them trying make what Grace did something other than a desperate woman who killed her abusive husband)
⚰️ Nora not even talking to Bibi & taking Angelica’s (someone the Sisters weren’t actually a fan of) word straight away without hearing her wife out? Didn't seem in character for her at all.
⚰️ We could argue panic here but the obvious answer as to why they were all in Wicklow when The Prick died was because it was Grace's birthday & they do it every year. This is never mentioned once.
⚰️ I'm not sure if I could argue that it doesn’t make sense even though for me personally some of the story itself made more sense to me when I read what the actors had to say on the characters but the worst part for me was the whole Ian/Cormac thing. So much of that doesn’t make sense. Was his wife terrified of him? Was she in on it? She came off like she was in on it & that went absolutely nowhere.
⚰️ I get the message, I do & believe me I agree with it, absolutely fuck the police but despite appreciating the acting because Owen McDonnell dialled it from 0 to 100 pretty quick. I thought “Cormac Sweeney” was a lazy villain. I mean & I say this through gritted teeth because the man ruined a version of one of my favourite character of all time & somewhere in my literal degree is a written roast on the man. Claes Bang did a phenomenal job of playing The Prick, I don’t think I have ever hated a character in a piece of media as much as I hated that man, you’ve got to be some kind of actor to play that much of a prick. Although, I have never seen “Clan” (not without effort: I can’t find a dvd) so I can’t say for certain if a lot of it was him copying the original character/actor but The Prick was a insanely well crafted villain, the little here & there comments & the repulsive, vile, disgusting creature that he was at every second he was in the series to the point where I'd feel so uncomfortable I skip some of his scenes on a rewatch. The Ian/Cormac villain felt almost comical in places, the dimensions they tried to give the villain were rushed & felt like “how bad can we make this bloke in the span of half an hour” instead of a well thought out, well paced villain like JPrick was. Honestly props to Owen McDonnell though because I thought he was genuinely good despite the bizarre storyline (I may be biased, I liked him in Killing Eve) Go watch True Detective: Night Country if you want to see him play a well written deranged being!

so we were definitely gonna get "more of Bibi's homelife" this season and instead we got 90% of Nora's storyline happening off-screen?? give me a break

⚰️ Matt's character felt so disrespected to me in this season (perhaps I am biased as he is my favourite out of the men in this series). Still think Joe should have been this years' Prick.
I know there are bigger problems with Bad Sisters season 2 but why the fUCK did they have Becka end up with that loser? Keeping Matt & Becka apart for the sake of a baby Becka didn't want with an idiot??? Like, I get if Becka hadn't ended up with anyone at all but THIS?

⚰️ This season could've benefited from him being the villain instead.
really hate how they cheapened the whole remembering grace/scattering her ashes moment by making it as cliche as possible with becka’s baby and JOE there

⚰️ It is a tired & overdone plot. A character explicitly stating that they do not want to have children only to have a sudden pregnancy plot thrown upon them only for them to accept the fetus & throw away all their previous convictions is just outdated & is very irritating. Let characters who chose to be child free be child free & if an accident happens, write a compelling story on a character choosing to have an abortion instead of the character suddenly wanting it despite being firm about being child free & making it seem like she's going to go back to raise it with a person who's not right for her. This feels like a punishment for her character. Instead of this, why not write a story about her mental health seeing as she wanted to end it all in the series 1 finale, write a story about her not wanting to settle down (because that's okay too!) finding Matt & still realising that to try & move on from everything that happened she has to let him to go too (in my opinion one of the best moments of this season even though I was desperately rooting for Matt) or even write a story about Joe being a Prick, delving deeper into how her mind works because I still cannot believe it took her 13/14? Years to see JPrick for who he really was.
The bruises on her face at the start of the season in the flash forward still makes me think that she won't have this fetus. Free her! Let her go travelling or something that suites her character better than… This.
⚰️ They also mentioned Grace being Pro-Choice so it's not even that the characters didn't agree with abortion.
all ive done is complain about s2 of bad sisters and i haven't even touched on the worst aspect which is the becka pregnancy storyline wow establishing a female character doesn't want kids and making her pregnant immediately after and she just changes her mind and doesn't even mention abortion how feminist and original 🙄 and I laughed out loud at how gigantic the fetus on the sonogram was like can we please be serious for a second

⚰️ They had a grand opportunity to make Becka's boyfriend Joe, the Prick of the season (could write an essay on Becka's relationship with her inlaws) but they've gone for a rather safe & basic choice & made it rather mad crackers.
Do I think this series was meant to continue past series 1 & that it was continued because of a fat pay check when series 1 did so well? Yes, I do. Would I watch seasons of the Sisters facing The Prick of the year because I love these characters? Absolutely I would.

Hi badsisterssource!!
I had a question about episodes 5 and 6 from Season 2 so if you've not yet seen them please don't read further :)
I am Autistic and am unsure of the interaction between Ian and Eva in these newer episodes
Eps 5 +6
Is Eva interested in him or not? Because it seems like she was happy to have a friend and then he wanted something more?
Also Why have they made Becka Pregnant when she said soo many times she didn't want children?
Hello! Lovely to hear from you, thank you very much for the spoiler warning because I was delayed in watching this week’s instalment.
⚰️ I also have Autism & it took me awhile to realise where they were going with this also. My two pence is that Eva is grieving & grief makes you do very odd things. I think she found comfort in having someone who knew her Grace so well, who clearly has a very good relationship with Blanaid, who she has been struggling to connect with in the aftermath of Grace's death due to grief on both sides & there was Ian, who she could talk to, who had also lost his sister & who was so connected to Grace that she could lean on him, they could share in their grief together. I think he wants something more & I would recommend seeing the theories about Ian to understand why this might be the case (& then potentially my post to see why I think making Ian the new JPrick is a lazy idea) but I thought Eva just wanted someone to share in her grief with & he has taken that next step. I understand that grief can bring people together like this but I still think it's out of character for Eva & a ridiculous idea. Had this show been going on for a long time & was in series 5 or something & the two characters had realised they had fallen for each other over a LENGTHY period of time, that I could understand, to do this now even if they're planning to make Ian the new JPrick, is absolutely ludicrous.
⚰️ Oh, you have come to someone who feels very strongly about this. Becka being pregnant has made me so angry you would not believe. I absolutely hate this trope in which a woman who says they do not want to have children, gets pregnant & then is (somewhat) alright with having a child. No, Becka stated that she did not want kids & if I am being completely honest, she is better off as a fun auntie, from the audiences perception of Becka, she is not in the right place emotionally or potentially even financially to have a child & even if she was, she verbally said that she didn’t not want to have a child. To see a woman choosing to be child free & verbally saying that in a piece of media is great because not everyone wants to have children & that is absolutely fine! I have a feeling that this will lead into her giving Bibi & Nora the child & if so, that's marginally better than her just magically being okay with having a kid but still, that trope of making a woman who doesn't want to have kids suddenly pregnant is old, overused & outdated.

⚰️ I know so many of you don't like him at all & that's fine but is it just me or does anyone else think it's lazy writing to make Ian the new Prick? As a writer myself, I feel like the best thing they could have done with his character is a) make him like the James character from Derry Girls in which he fills the space left by Grace. b) had Grace kill him in a moment of misguided PTSD & had the sisters cover up his death to project their sisters' memory because the idea that he's a black widower, is just as bad (if not worse seeing as I've seen ideas that he ran Grace off the road) as JPrick (you'd think in this universe the sisters would have vetted him before he married Grace) & wanted money because really what money? she had to sell her house & live with Eva because she couldn't afford it because she gave up the insurance claim. I'm well aware from knowing people like Grace in my real life that more often than not they can go from one toxic relationship to another but in the universe of this show & the realism that is often presented, this just seems incredibly unrealistic. They would have been better off making Becka's Joe the villain as that would have made more sense thematically considering Becka's naivety towards JPrick & the odd relationship those two characters clearly had before she realised he was worse than Satan.

In the few hours before series 2: episode 4, let's hope Becka's “life changing” news is not a pregnancy & that she is able to remain child free as she wishes.
Worst plotlines that could happen
Eva has cancer
Becka gets pregnant
Bibi and Nora don't get pregnant
Eva sleeps with Ian

⚰️ I genuinely think her being in pain was just genuinely grief coming out in a physical way. I say this from personal experience. In my experience, Grief can give you horrendous physical symptoms even if you don't have an emotional response.
⚰️ The description for next weeks terrifies me to my core. Way before this season premiered I had a dream about this season & in that dream Becka had accidentally got pregnant with Matt. Now dreams about plotlines usually mean nothing but I once dreamt up the plot twist of an episode of a tv series that actually ended up happening so I am genuinely afraid of this one. (Blurring names for privacy) but this is quite literally something I told someone about when discussing this show:

(Prick 2.0 is Joe because I immediately took a dislike to him) one thing I will say though is that she had clearly been in a fight so even if she had conceived something maybe she doesn't stay pregnant.
⚰️ I hope it works out for them, Bibi is personally my favourite character & I love her relationship with Nora. I found it upsetting that she didn't even give Bibi a chance to talk through it with her & just took Angelica's word as gospel.
⚰️ As much as I have joked here & there about Ian being an honorary Garvey. I do not want to have these thoughts. I very much like the man but I genuinely think I would rather have seen Grace kill Ian in a trauma response then see Ian & Eva together.
