felicity paused, she didn’t speak right away. “i don’t know if i should be offended? because while i know you probably meant well with the first part of that spiel, it couldn’t help but sound a little condescending. why should i always try to understand others when they won’t even scratch the surface when it comes to me?” felicity’s tone was flat, she wasn’t snippy or sarcastic. felicity honestly just wanted to know why. it was a big question throughout her life: ‘why were my parents drug addicts? why didn’t they care about me? why did my aunt have to die the way she did? why am i not enough?’. sighing, felicity massaged her temples. “its not what i’ve done. it’s what people have done to me.” shaking her head she mumbled, “thanks for trying but i don’t think you’ll understand.

“Maybe I can try if you explain to me.”  She shrugged. Most people didn’t understand her either. Lots of people had no idea what it was like to be abandoned in an orphanage and grow up in it with no family that could really  love her, Bailee has the same feeling of rejection growing inside her all her life. “I mean, we all have problems, my life is a fucking mess... It’s always have been like that, so I think I can try.”

“That’s true, there are a lot of doctors who have seen it a lot. I think maybe they’re faking it at least sometimes. I don’t really believe it’s possible to be completely cold about those kind of things. But they have to accept it and keep moving I suppose. I can’t imagine with animals though. I’ve really got a soft spot for them.”

“Me too, but I think someday I’ll get used to it, at least that’s what I hope. Yesterday a guy brought me a puppy that he found in an abandoned place. You could clearly see the marks of agression all over its body... And he was so scared. I almost cried.”

“I guess you’re right. Some jobs just don’t have all the perks all of the time I guess. We just make it through by taking on the positives…like when I catch the guy or you save an animal.”

“Yes, it’s better when you think this way, I mean, I always think that I have chosen the right job when I see an animal being saved by my hands. Your job must be tough though, you deal with criminals everyday. This thing doesn’t mess with your mind? I mean, seeing the things that those people are capable of.”

“I’m gonna be honest and say that I don’t really think that’s something anybody could ever get used to. I mean, cheers to you that’s really a fantastic job saving animals but I would hate to have it. I think my heart would break on my first day.”

“I know your feeling, but I always saw these doctors being so cold about death and stuff because they’re always dealing with it everyday of their lifes. Maybe they’re just faking it or, I don’t know, it’s different with animals.”

“Yeah, you should, but don’t worry about it, you owe me one, so prepare yourself because I’m gonna need you at any moment from now on.” She joked as Tom and Jerry turned up on the living room and ran into Sofia. “Hope you like dogs, they’re small, but they make a lot of mess and as you can see, they’re very receptive.”

“I thought I’d get used to animals dying while I’m taking care of them. I mean, I’m a vet so this kind of stuff happens sometimes. But it’s always hard to see, I think I’m too soft for this kind of stuff.”

“look, i know this is really short notice but i can’t stay in my apartment tonight. there was a scrunchie on the door, which is sort of our code for ‘find a different place to stay’. i have my pyjamas, and every harry potter movie ( for extra entertainment ). so … is it okay if i stay with you? just for the night.”

“A scrunchie?” She raised her eyebrows. “Hmmm... Okay, I didn’t know you were coming, so, well, my apartment is a fucking mess right now.” She opened the door so the girl could get in. “Make yourself at home.”

“ When no one understands, that’s usually a good sign that you’re wrong. ”  Felicity sighs, looking up at the figure in front of her. “Am I incapable of that? Of people…understanding me?”

“Maybe you don’t understand people.” She shrugged, taking a deep breath.  “Or you’re just different of eveyrone, I can’t tell, it’s hard to say what’s wrong and write, I mean, everyone has a definition of it. I don’t know what you did, but I’m almost sure it’s not that bad.”

“That’s been enough tension for at least a few weeks” the brunette grumbled, kicking her feet up and resting her head upon the armrest of the couch in the lobby. She was in no mood to drag her suitcase up the stairs yet and the lobby was empty at this hour anyway. Only john, the doorman, was still up but she would bet for 10 dollars that he was out back smoking. Restless she twisted around, twirling with the soft pillow in her hand befpre putting it to rest on her stomach. A heavy sigh escaping past her lips, as if it would release any of the emotions“And they dare to say women are complicated…”

“Okay, lying down and complaining all day is not going to make things better.” She said as she made her way into the room and sat down to the girl’s side. She didn’t have to know that Bailee used to do the same thing when things were going crazy in her life. “Please, everyone is complicated. That’s why relationships in general aren’t perfect.” She shrugged. “What’s going on?”
