BAM IT! Why didn't I think of Instagram?!
As everyone knows, there was a HUGE acquisition today of Instagram by Facebook for 1 billion in cash and stock. Instagram at one time was Facebook's biggest threat due to the fact that it was user friendly and quick, which was quite different from Facebook's photo app. But you know what they say: If you can't beat 'em, buy 'em.
Instagram users, DON'T FEAR! Instagram's CEOs say that the app will not change into some crazy, new product, but rather, it will be directly integrated with the Facebook suite, with the same old look. So before you panic, don't worry, you will get to keep your Sepia features and friends.
Tumblr media
my first ever Instagram picture of my bathroom floor. creative and hipster, I know.
How does this help Facebook? Well, first, they have one more product they can advertise to investors. In addition, it shows investors that it Facebook is strong enough to handle such a hefty business deal, hopefully giving investors some reassurance and confidence in the FB brand.
But this all leads to the question: BAM IT! Why didn't I think of that?

BAM IT! What Could Be Bigger Than Facebook?
Well, surprisingly, a lot of websites in other countries. This month, Wired published a spread about social networking websites taking other countries by storm.
Tumblr media
Most notably, Google owned Orkut is Brazil's version of Facebook, with over 35.7 million users this past June alone.
Tumblr media
Also, who knew that Farsi is the second largest language used in blogs? Not this Persian.
Tumblr media
This article was so interesting because I think often times, companies in the US really target Facebook & Twitter when creating social media campaigns. It's important for companies newly moving abroad that they not only need to focus on these two websites, but also the international social media websites. This makes things more complicated because these companies need to hire people who have a lot of knowledge about these sites, in addition to the US-based social media websites.
BAM IT! It's a big world out there.

Tumblr media
As many people know, BAM Consulting works with companies in both DC & Philly, which means a lot of traveling between the two. During my commute yesterday, I saw these great ads by Tropicana all over Union Station and 30th St. Loving how they customized this one to the Philly market! These ads were so relatable too! ...not saying I've woken up with cheese whiz on my lap or anything...

BAM IT! OLD SPICE IS BREAKING IN!
Yesterday, Old Spice debuted its new set of commercials in which the "Old Spice Man" breaks through other P&G commercials because Old Spice is too powerful to stay in its own.
I love this form of duel advertising on P&G's part! Also, its really helps that the commercial is loud and bold. Definitely think it'll make a splash at the Super Bowl!

BAM IT! JCPenney is Transforming
Tumblr media
On January 25th, JCPenney unveiled a new plan to become "American's Favorite Store". According to JCP's CEO, Ron Johnson, and President, Michael Francis, the retail change wants to radically transform the department store shopping experience and offer consumers a new way of doing business: Fair & Square.
JCP rolled out its Fair & Square policy today by offering three types of pricing, as well as one, fair return policy.
Tumblr media
Johnson noted: "We want customers to shop on their terms, not ours. By setting our store monthly and maintaining our best prices for an entire month, we feel confident that customers will love shopping when it is convenient for them, rather than when it is expedient for us."
I think this is a great start to rebranding on JCP's part. The lower-end department store market is becoming stale, which is proven evident by the dismal stock prices of companies such as JCP and Sears within the last five years. These stores once ran on the fact that they had the best deal on a certain Saturday with huge mail catalogues. People became sick of the gimmick.
Since a HUGE dip in 2009, JCP has been on a steady decline and really needs to bounce back. Positioning the company as one without frills and fireworks is great because it is giving people honesty and sincerity. It's putting the customer first, which is refreshing. I appreciate that JCP knows that it will never be a Nordstrom or Lord & Taylor, and makes a promise to be a low-cost store with the customer in mind, rather than make lofty promises.
Let's hope it sticks!

BUELLER...BUELLER...BUELLER...?
Ask anyone who knows me, and they will tell you, I love Ferris Bueller's Day Off. There is nothing in the world that makes me laugh more than when Cameron sits in the car debating whether or not to pick up Ferris for their day off, or the look on Rooney's face when he thinks he has royally screwed up. It should come as no surprise that I am LOVING the new Honda commercial.
Honda did an amazing job with this new Super Bowl ad, starring Matthew Broderick reliving his role as Ferris Bueller. I love how Honda was able to take such a great movie that so many people can identify with, and bring it to their commercial. Also, great because CR-V is a mid-sized, family car, and people who loved Ferris Bueller way back when are now within Honda's target demographic!
Pardon my French, but...BAM IT HONDA!
