he only looks at all the people around him with "Spanish shame";

only his friends can surprise and embarrass him with something unexpected, and even then he will only roll his eyes at it and think "what fools he is friends with";

his cheeks are slightly flushed, but his friends have never really embarrassed him much yet;

because of his habit of always pulling his hat over his eyes, in a moment of embarrassment, it may seem that he is "hiding", but he doesn't really care what color his cheeks are.

Mush was a very observant person, he seemed to notice everything everyone did. When Blink had confessed his feelings for him he already had a clue about it, he just wanted to hear Blink say it. 

He was one of the few newsies who got to go to school for a decent time, he made it to the rear beginning of grade 3 just before dropping out. He was there long enough to become interested in books, math, and all that stuff, which may be why he and David get along so well. A little while after David had come around, Mush asked him to teach him about the stuff thats more around their age level, to which Dave gladly accepted. Only two newsies had ever come to his apartment, Jack being one, obviously, and Mush being the other. 

Which is why one day while they were hanging out in Davids shared room, he told Mush how he felt about Jack. He rambled on and Mush listened, Daves panic reminding him of the boy he himself liked. “I just dont know what to do Mush, I mean hell, he dated my sister! What type of brother would I be if I tried getting with my sisters former sweetheart? She’d hate me!” Mush just blinks. He knew Sarah and Jack never really liked eachother, they were covering up for eachother as Sarah liked Katherine and Jack so obviously liked David. Noone else knew this except for Crutchy, who only found out because he was snooping and overheard Jack n Sarah talking about it on the rooftop of the lodge. He shakes off his thoughts and looks back at Davey, who has his head in his hands with a miserable looking expression plastered all over his face. “Well,” Mush begins, “I think you should just tell him.”

 “What?” “Tell him. I’m sure Sarah wont mind, positive of it actually.” David gives him a glare, more of a worried type than a threatening one. “But what if she hates me after? I don’t think I’d be able to live the rest of my life with my sister hating me.” Mush rolls his eyes as David wipes his, Davey was the most intelligent person he knew, but right now he was acting like the stupidest. Mush felt bad quickly after thinking that as he noticed Daveys leg bouncing. He sighs, “I really think youse should take this risk, Sarah doesnt seem like the type of person who’d envy you for somethin like this, and what if Jack likes ya back? Youse only looking at the bad side of this, try looking at the good.” Mush stands up, brushing his pants off, because hes not to sure what to do, “All Im saying is to give it a chance, maybe something good oughta come out of it.” Mush pats Daveys shoulder “I gotta go now, Blinks waitin for me, wants to show me somethin he found near Queens, says its shiny and teal. He likes shiny stuff. Probably a seashell but he oughta call it something silly.” He makes his way to the door because unlike Jack, Mush is normal, atleast to some extent. “Could be you and Jack y’know,” and then he leaves. Letting David be alone to ponder in his thoughts.

A week has gone by since the two’s conversation, which worries Mush, will David ever say anything to Jack about how he feels? Davey is a smart boy, Mush thinks, maybe he will when the time is right. Almost as if it were planned, Davey and Jack walk up to the distribution center hand in hand. Mush tugs at his shirt, the weathers horrible- wait, hand in hand? His head jerks up, and theres the pair, Jacks hands wrapped around Daveys arm, talking about something that sounds along the lines of breakfast. Davey feels eyes on him, he takes a peak behind him to see Mushes eyes, he mouths a tiny “Thank you” and smiles, Mush glady smiles back, turning and making his way to Blink. 

“Took you long enough, I’ve been waiting for ya!” “I had to deal with something” “You see Cowboy n Mouth holding hands? They finally got some sense and talked, theys sweethearts now.” This makes Mush smile, “Yeah, so I’ve seen. Happy for em.” “As is me’s” Blink puts his arm around Mush and they began to walk, Blink talking about something crazy adventure that happen just the day before, Mush sneaks another glance at the pair behind them, smiling to himself, than he lays all his attention to his pair.
