Can we let J. K. Rowling post Merlin canons please?
I want a J. K. tweets that go like:
'Actually, Arthur made Merlin suck him every night before bed, which was never shown on screen because it was not relevant to the story'
'Gaius was a former stripper, he and Uther had an affair in a tavern once, but that was never shown on screen because it was not relevan to the story'
'Gwen wrote a 150k self-insert fanfiction about Morgana and her, this was never mentioned though, since it was irrelevant to the story'
I want this RIGHT NOW.

Arthur Wasn’t The Once and Future King and Isn’t Coming Back, But Kilgharrah Didn’t Lie. Here Is Why and How
And no, this isn’t that lake post.
So, I have seen a post circulating Tumblr about how Lake of Avalon has become grass at the end of S5E13 “The Diamond of The Day Part 2″ and Arthur isn’t coming back. Funny thing, this has always been my don’t-think-about-it-without-a-bag-of-tissues headcanon.
In my opinion, that can only be a result and “why” is quite different.

Wanna know what I think would've made Merlin series more interesting?
It's a rethorical question, I'm gonna tell you either way.
See, since Arthur was born of magic it kind of bugs me that he has no magical powers. How did that come to be?
Not only would Arthur having powers make sense, but it would be an opportunity to make him essentially a disney princes.
Just imagine Arthur Pendragon being able to talk to animals. Well, okay, not exactly 'talk' more like understand them.
Imagine Arthur just looking at the birds flying over his window and getting this sense of an approaching danger, or Arthur calming his horse with a singe touch, exchanging glances with a cat and figuring out that he's being lied to.
Of course, this connection would've made him less of a hunter, but I'd have no problem with that.

If y'all let me be in charge of re-vamping Merlin someday there are 2 things that I REALLY wanna do:
Merlin and Arthur meet as kids by the Lake of Avalon. Arthur is on a hunt with his father but he sneaks away to play in the lake. As Arthur plays in the water fetus Merlin stands on the edge of the woods and looks at this blonde kid that he's never met before. Merlin finally decides to call for the boy (Arthur), and when he does Arthur turns around. Then we have a shot of these two as kids staring at each other, Merlin holding onto the closest tree and Arthur still standing in the Lake of Avalon. I think that would be a great nod to the original series, having them meet at the lake, and having Arthur actually walk out of the lake to meet Merlin. And that first episode they become friends...and Arthur, since he is a prince, never really had any friends before that so he gives Merlin a necklace as a remember-me-lucky-charm.
Speedrun killing Uther cause that asshole sucks

I've started season 3 of Merlin and I need to say one thing:
So far, the worst writing decision that they've made is Gwen telling Arthur off...
Do they seriously expect me to believe that Merlin never once told that to Arthur? Merlin, who is often disregarded by Arthur even though he goes saving his royal ass once a day. Merlin who is extremely prideful? Merlin who got into a fight with the crowned prince twice within the first episode? Merlin never told Arthur that he's being acts like a dick sometimes? But Gwen, of all people did?
Yeah, I don't believe that...

Yeah, probably, as soon as my exams are over 😂
But I really wanna make a TV show remake too though? Like, I might try my hand at screenwriting because of these to gay dumbasses. The Legend of King Arthur is not under copyright I believe, so making another adaptation shouldn't be a problem.
Plus, as much as I love the original series, I love it for its characters (most of the times). But I find story pacing to be hell.
Seriously,
Morgana discovering she has magic (which was alluded at a throughout season 1) got one episode. Then they ignored her for like 8 episodes?
Arthur learning about his mother also got one episode, and that ending put him right back at the beginning?
But yeah, let's give Uther's monsterfucker subplot 2 episodes...
Aight so how about a merlin remake but the characters actually come out of the damn closet this time

I actually think he realises (or at least starts questioning his feelings for Merlin) in episode 3 of season 1, when Uther jokingly suggests that maybe Merlin has put Arthur under a spell.
Sometimes I'm very comfortable in my theory that Arthur only realised he was in love with Merlin at the very last episode.
But then sometimes I see this:

And this
Tumblr media
And this

And this

And I'm so sure that he does realise earlier on, yet it's so difficult to pinpoint exactly when. The Last Dragonlord? The Darkest Hour? The Wicked Day? His Father's Son? Servant of Two Masters? Sword in the Stone? Somewhere in season 5? I don't know. And it kills me not to

Exactly!
But their time in exile would be used to gradually repair their relationship, and then make it even deeper.
At first Arthur would have to come to terms with Merlin's magic, realise that the fact that Merlin is a warlock doesn't change all the things Merlin did for him. And in time Arthur would stop being weary about it, and start talking normally to Merlin again (well, at least their kind of normal). Merlin would tell Arthur about all the backstage saves that he did. Even though Arthur would be too proud to thank him out loud, he'd be amazed by Merlin even more than he was before.
As far as their romance goes, I find that to be its own, more complicated problem.
Yes, Arthur doesn't think it would be suitable for a prince to be in love with a servant, but more than that, he doesn't think that he can be with a guy. I don't even mean that homophobia is the main problem (we all know history can be very gay at times), but he was a sole heir to the throne, he HAD TO HAVE CHILDREN OF HIS OWN. And of course, the peculiarity of the situation would be a problem of its own.
Merlin also has his own set of troubles when it comes to admitting his actual feelings for Arthur. Part of that is due to the fact that he is Arthur's servant of course, but I think that part of it has to do with the whole 'destiny' thing. Merlin might sometimes feel as if Arthur is FORCED to spend time with him, that he only likes Merlin because Merlin is always around, that Arthur's feelings don't go any deeper than that.
So being in exile would help them both cross that 'prince and his servant' bridge, realize that titles don't matter. It would help them both realize that what they feel for each other is way beyond that.
Going from there, forcing one of them to admit their feelings in order to survive would force them to get over insecurities that go deeper than their social status.
The way I would do the coming out is have Arthur have to admit. Merlin would think that Arthur is saying that just so they can survive, so he pulls 'but you are the prince' card, not because he actually cares about that anymore, but because he's scared of Arthur's confession. He's scared it's not sincere, that Arthur is just confused. But Arthur just reminds him that he is in fact no longer a prince.
And that's how the their true feelings come out. If they ever renew Merlin, or do another King Arthur themed tv show (it's legal I think) I WANNA WRITE FOR IT!
If I had written Merlin, there are only 4 things I would have changed:
Put more emphasis on gwen and morgana’s relationship. Either romantic or platonic, I feel like the writers missed a huge opportunity to make their relationship more meaningful and impactful to the plot, and just development of morgana (and Guinevere) bc by the end it was just kind of swept aside, when the groundwork WAS there
I would have made it so by that end of the 3rd season, Arthur had found out. It would have made more sense to the plot, and would have added extra layers to both Merlin and Arthur and their friendship. It could have brought up important questions about the idea of duty and friendship, to do what u think u need to do and what u want to do (which was touched upon in season 5 with Merlin letting mordred die instead of letting magic allowed). But they could have developed what was lightly touched upon in the last episode.
I would have rushed season 4 and 5 into one long season, cutting out a bunch of plot lines (like that uncle whose name I forgot). And then in the final episode of season 4, Arthur would have died
But then season 5, I would have done the whole Arthur rises again, but in a modern setting. And I would have made it so it cut between the past and present, connecting the past and present in an overarching mystery, all connected to morgana or whatever. It would cut btw after arthur’s death, which would flesh out gwen’s character as we would have seen her as a queen in her own stead, mourning Arthur. Seen Merlin come to terms with his own grief and guilt, and become the wizard even more. And then we could get flashbacks to merlin’s time across history, as he sees all his friend live, holding onto his hope that Arthur rises again, facing with his own morality. It’d show him coming to terms with his own sense of self, finding himself apart from Arthur (his attachment with Arthur was VERY unhealthy). And then when Arthur rises again, they could really focus on Arthur’s own sense of self, not as king but as a man, and on seeing Merlin as a person and true friend other than just servant, friend, and being okay with the change of the world. (And then maybe consider developing a more romantic relationship between them.)

So I started watching Merlin, and obviously I ship Merthur because they are hella gay and nobody can convience me othervise.
I know I'm kinda late to the party, but let me tell you that I think I could be Merthur's lovechild.
See, I look (kinda) like Colin, especially the hair, and I'm also an idiot who falls in love way too quickly (let's be honest, Merlin fell for Arthur within like 3 episodes). Plus, I do not listen to people's advice... so yeah, I'd say I've got the Merlin bit right?
As for my similarities with Arthur, I too often act like an arrogant piece of shit, but as soon as things get real I become my soft-ass bitch self.
So yeah, the only thing that's stoping me from canonising myself as a Merthur lovechild is a possibility of me actually having some braincels. That is yet to be confirmed, but we all know that no God could give Merthur's child some brains.
