Trying to track down as many interviews/behind the scenes things for THW that I can so I can easily check or link to things and MAN. I forgot how upsetting some of these quotes are.
Like I sure do love to see Dean call Toothless "corrupted" in like four different interviews. Love to see him constantly misuse terms like "domesticated". Love to read how that for the Light Fury, this supposed wild pure untainted fierce powerful feral call of the wild wild animal, the sound designers had to "suggest she was female" and so leaned on stereotypes. Love to read that Toothless "kinda forgot" about his former life after only ten years. Love to read that Astrid is meant to be Hiccup's "true support and future". Love to read basically anything regarding the Light Fury and see the filmmakers talk about how she's a female and needs to look like a female and move like a female and act like a female and sound like a female. Love to read how she couldn't look too reptilian despite literally being a dragon and that she couldn't have leopard markings because they looked a little too close to scars. Love to read how she "promises a family and the propagation of Toothless' species" when she's not even actually a Night Fury. Love to read how it was intended that Toothless' "animal instincts"/attraction to the Light Fury become more important to him than his friendship with Hiccup. Love to read how they purposefully changed Valka's design to make her "more appealing". Love to read how one of the functions the Light Fury is supposed to serve is to be "a clarion reminder that wild dragons will attack a human when they see them" like that makes any sense at all to anyone who has seen literally any other piece of HTTYD media. Love to read how the other function she's supposed to serve is to show "that when you find love, that's where you belong" like Hiccup's platonic/brotherly love for Toothless meant nothing when on the official website they're referred to as soulmates. Love to read that the reunion scene is meant to be a "last joyride" and "not an indication that they see each other again".
I hate this movie.

Shunsui: Hey,Juushiro...
Ukitake: Hey, did you do what I said? Did you tell him?
Shunsui: I did.
Ukitake: And what did he say?
Shunsui: “Thank you.”
Ukitake: You’re totally welcome. What’d he say?
Shunsui: He said, “Thank you.” I said “I love you” and Starrk said, “Thank you.”

Ukitake: The first time I ever got upset in front of Starrk, they put their arms around me and it was so awkward that I had to ask them if they were hugging me or reaching for something on the shelf behind me.
Starrk: I was doing both, for your information.
Shunsui: The first time Starrk hugged me, it was such a disaster we didn’t make eye contact for, like, a week after.

Nnoitra: Why not?
Grimmjow: "I have no regard for my own or others personal safety", as some would say.

Ukitake: When I said you should try being friendlier this isn't what I meant.
Shunsui, stirring a cup of tea aggressively: Oh, so now I'm TOO friendly? There's no pleasing you.
Starrk, who broke into their house an hour ago: Two sugars please.
Shunsui: Coming right up.

Then I hope you don't mind I ask you a question about a translation? I see debate over this one, but it's the scene where Orihime cries for Ichigo to save "her" but some people says it's not "her" when he responds? Do you understand if this scene is correct?
Ah, okay. Yes, I have seen the wild debates over this scene, mostly because of shipper reasons.
Let me say first, I can understand why the English translation makes Orihime say “Save me” and Ichigo say “I will protect her.” These are not proper translations from the Japanese text. The only reason I can assume why it was translated that way was because they were being literal to what’s happening in the scene.
If you don’t mind, I’d also like to explain the scene as a whole and it’s effect on Ichigo and Orihime. It’s actually quite dark and not positive at all. I would hardly count it with the ichihime moments.
For the translation:
Orihime begins to lose it when Ichigo is “dying”. She doesn’t know what to do and all she can do is scream for help to Ichigo, even if the poor guy is dying on the floor. The way it’s written is also indicating she’s just losing it.
Tumblr media
Orihime: Help, Kurosaki-kun!
Kurosaki-kun, Tasukete!
黒崎くん助けて!!
Notice that she does NOT say “help me”. She merely says “help”. I don’t believe Orihime is that selfish that she would simply call for Ichigo to help her in a situation where everyone around her is pretty much getting beat to death.
Then it’s followed by,
Tumblr media
Ichigo: They (meaning one person in context) are calling. I can hear it. Rise. Stand up. I…I…I will protect.
Yonderunda. Kikoeru. Tate! Tate! Tate! Tate! Orega…Orega…Orega mamoru
呼んでるんだ. 聞こえる. 立てよ. 立て. 俺が. 俺が. 俺が護る.
There is no, “I will save her” in the Japanese text as they have placed in the English text. If Ichigo was meant to say he would save Orihime, then her name would properly be used in the Japanese text for proper pronoun use.
But her name is not there either. Ichigo was triggered by the word “help” because is it not in his character to protect? But this also introduces the hollow instinct inside him. Ichigo wants to save and protect everyone involved. His hollow didn’t just revive himself for Orihime.
His instinct was provoked by someone calling for help and he knew his friends needed him.
Let me add a little example, because Ichigo has used a name while in a similar situation. In chapter 110, Ichigo is also on the ground bleeding out after fighitng Kenpachi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He calls specifically for Rukia, because she is the only one in the situation that he needs to be save.
Kubo could have written the moment for Ichigo to say Orihime, but did not, because she wasn’t the only important person in the situation.
Okay, now we can talk about the scene as a whole. Ichigo’s instinct is triggered by a cry of help. However, his hollow takes over and he is no longer in control.
See this thing?
Tumblr media
This is not the “funny guy” Orihime had become infatuated with. It didn’t even care at this point for those around it. In fact, blowing Orihime and Uryuu away, despite them needing protection.
Tumblr media
When Uryuu tries to tame Ichigo,
Tumblr media
And this happened because he can’t get a grip on himself. Now, Ichigo turns to Orihime, but he doesn’t try to hurt her. Ichigo did not intentionally want to hurt Uryuu. His hollow did not see him as a threat. Uryuu tried to stop the hollow from killing Ulquiorra who had hurt his friends, but then the hollow reacts on instinct and sees Uryuu as an interference. Orihime blames herself because she triggered his instinct with “help”. Anyone could have cried for help, he would have reacted the same way.
The hollow may not be Ichigo’s right state of mind, but it still knows who it needs to protect. But this is the struggle, he had to protect Uryuu as well, but Uryuu made himself a threat to the hollows intentions. The hollow still knows it had to protect Orihime as well, she’s part of the situation. But if she interfered, why would the hollow have any reason to not harm her? It was good on her part that she did nothing.
When Ichigo regains his control, he had no idea what happened. He was terrified that he had hurt Uryuu and he was ashamed that he had fought the way he did.
What I find strange and interesting, is that Orihime wasn’t afraid of Ulquiorra. She even reached out to him. There was some heavy stuff that developed there.
I also recommend reading THIS POST because it talks way more in depth about Ichigo’s instinct.
So to end this, this scene was by no means a scene for IchiHime fans to rejoice about. It’s a dark and mentally damaging scene. Orihime suffered mentally and Ichigo suffered internally because he lost the control over his hollow and hurt his friends. He was ashamed of himself and from this point until Ichigo actually gains control in the final battle, Orihime is afraid of who Ichigo truly is deep inside. Her face and her memories, in the end, proved that until he reassured her that he had control.
Tumblr media
What I find a bit amusing is the one who’s most likely responsible for Ichigo’s strength to control his hollow is,
