have you read emily henry's new book? and if you have, did you like it? i'm thinking of buying it bc I've read happy place and beach read in the past and i liked them but people are saying that this new one is very different and they didn't really like it like she should stick to her previous writing style. what your thoughts about it?

yess, i’ve read it and honestly i loved it 🥹 it’s definitely different from her usual vibe, it feels a little quieter and more introspective but not in a bad way at all. i actually think it shows how much range she has. ✨

i’ve seen a lot people saying that as well like that the romance in this one felt “quick” or “forced,” or that she should go back to her rom-com style… but i don’t really agree. bc to me, her books were never just rom-coms. sure, there’s love stories, banter, swoony moments but what’s always stood out to me is how she writes about people. her characters are real and layered and the love stories often reflect much bigger themes like grief, identity, creativity, family, self-worth. it’s not about people finding love and then figuring out who they are - it’s about them finding who they are through all kinds of relationships, romantic or not. and this applies to this book as well - the romance was just one piece of the puzzle not the whole point.

so yeah, it’s not your typical breezy rom-com, and i think that’s why some people were thrown off. but to me, it’s still so her. and if you loved her previous books for the emotion and the character work, not just the romance tropes, i really think you’ll find a lot to love in this one too. ✨
