I like rap, lofi beats, vaporwave, and undergound weirdness from the 80s and 90s. I post about those things here sometimes. I have a Youtube account too. Twitter/chromeoverload || Soundcloud/beeps-beats

Entomo is a short, gorgeous little exploration / semi-collectathon where you talk to insects and make use of their various skills. Mixing vibes of Rubna’s “Lisa” and Broken Rules’ “And Yet it Moves”, Entomo (a word which itself means “of or relating to insects) nonetheless maintains its own peaceful yet confusing atmosphere. Arguably tdlk’s best work to date, Entomo is definitely worth playing for free in your browser.

Hello all. I haven’t exactly been active in a while, but here’s a taste of what I’ve been up to on Youtube and Souncloud.

Hello all, sorry I’ve been so inactive. As you may know, I have a Soundcloud where I am much more active, finding and compiling obscure content and artists. Given that most of my picks are very lo-fi, sad, jazzy pieces, I figured I’d go ahead and create a separate playlist containing the more upbeat and bass-heavy tracks I’ve picked. So, here it is, for your enjoyment.

Beats Feature #1
Figured every so often, maybe weekly, I’d start featuring a few good artists and songs I found that week or in the past. Here are some classic Soundcloud beats that any lover of trap, neojazz, or hip-hop and rap needs to check out.
trashxnymano: An excellent lo-fi collab piece between [trash.goon] and nymano featuring a smooth but exhilarating swinging beat.
//fuckitdoeweout: A 2004 Meek Mill freestyle thrown over a smooth, lo-fi beat. Meek Mill may not have as good of a reputation now, but RSNZ’s beat really turns this old freestyle into an excellent track.
reptar bar: A rough, lilting lo-fi beat with some unintelligible sounds and voices providing a bizarre backdrop. This song is rather hard to describe, but seems to carry a somewhat depressed feeling along with it. Maintaining this same off-kilter tone throughout the piece, this song almost feels like a lullaby infused with longing, giving off the feeling of a sad, grieving person quelling their sadness and relaxing into a deep, melancholy slumber.
farewell: A forlorn, somber piano-synth piece. Sounds like something one would play when driving alone off into the distance at the end of a sad film. A little repetitive, nonetheless delivers a surprising amount of emotion in a relatively small package.

Lisa is one of my favorite pixelated-style games. And no, I don’t mean LISA: The Painful RPG (though that game is excellent as well, in its own morbid way). No, I’m talking about lisa, a much-lesser-known isometric herding game on Itch. I honestly don’t remember where I found this game, I just remember downloading it and putting it in my library some time ago. Mysterious origins aside, this game is an absolute pleasure. You play as a man and his sheepdog (you can control theme separately or have the dog follow the man), herding sheep and working the farm. Birds chirp and trees sway in the breeze as you amble about the fields and meadows completing your adorable little chores. There are no words, there’s no intense challenge, really, but this game’s cheery feel and lively, bouncy pixelated graphics make completing this game’s ‘chores’ anything but. This games is relaxing and engrossing, taking me into its pleasant atmosphere more than many other, more technically advanced, games, and does so with no fancy dialogue, or cutscenes, or narrative. There are just simple tutorials skillfully blended into the game world that familiarize you with the controls, and then you’re off. Besides the man’s grunt or dog’s bark, there is no talking. And that’s fine. This little joy is 100% perfect as it is. I honestly can’t think of much I’d add that could make it any better.

An example of Mason’s game design work. A quite wacky JRPG-ish game with absolutely ridiculous and entertaining ‘melty’ visuals. Not too many hours of content, definitely still worth a play, along with Mason’s other games on itch.io.

Game designer and artist Mason Lindroth depicts wacky, abstract scenes constructed of 5th-grade-pottery-style clay figures. The worlds he envisions seem distorted, completely different from our ideas of physics, yet similar, with buildings, people, and furniture. It’s almost as if his work is an interpretation, a demake, of our reality. It’s gorgeous and mind-bending. I’ll probably be linking some more of his work as time goes on.

You’ve heard of First World Problems. Seemingly unimportant “problems” expressed by a hypothetical member of a “first world,” or fully developed society (eg. “Oh no, Snapchat won’t load fast enough). And you’ve probably seen their counterparts, Third World Problems. Well, turns out that the “world-problems” metaphor actually has 4 worlds (at least according to Reddit): first, second (former Soviet Bloc, some of Asia, half-developed), third, and fourth (caveman-level society).
But here’s the interesting part. According to Reddit, it doesn’t stop there. A genius Redditor named /u/happybadger started it all off by creating a subreddit called /r/fifthworldproblems, where users post about the problems of a dimension and plane beyond our own. The subreddit’s content is completely bizarre, with abstract and seemingly random post tips and zany posts like “I accidentally ran the destructor on the real number collateralator, leaving me with nothing to run physics on apart from infinities. What can I do?“ and “My sister is “going through a phase” and now refers to herself as Id'maolg, Lord of Suffering. How can I get her to find healthier activities for her spare time?” And someone then decided that 5 wasn’t enough. Thus /r/sixthworldproblems, another ‘dimension’ whose posts consist of nothing but random screaming. And the list of imaginary, post-Earth worlds goes on. /r/seventhworldproblems is a world run by three beings called Colors who enforce a bizarre syntax on all residents and force them to take “Medicine.” After around 100, the numbers lose all rhyme or reason. /r/747thworldproblems, /r/5245thworld problems, /r/infiniteworldproblems, all with their own bizarre cultures and rules. Then there are forces beyond the worlds. /r/galacticpeacekeepers, /r/747thworldpirates, all entities contributing to the larger metaverse story. A surpisingly immersive one. If you’re interested in jumping down the Metaverse rabbithole, a good place to start is the wiki. And that is a rabbithole you should definitely consider jumping down.

Throw bread at little ducks and ducklings that paddle about on the surface of a psychedelic pink-and-blue pond. Not much to this one. Simple but somewhat beautiful in its simplicity, and relaxing to ‘play.’ Available free for PC and Android.
