Battle Demo Guide

Welcome to Mythaura's battle demo! Here's a concise guide to help you navigate the 3v3 battles and make strategic decisions:

1. Battle Setup

The battle takes place between your beasts (on the left) and the enemy beasts (on the right) and ends when one side is defeated. For this demo, all beasts in this demo are level 1 and have average size for their species.

2. Beast Details

Click on the info icon in the corner of your beast's avatar to view its details. From here, you can read their abilities and see a breakdown of their stats.

3. Elements

Each beast has 2 elements, including a species element that is always shown. You won't know your opponent's secondary element.

For this demo, a beast's secondary element is currently randomized.

Check the elements page for more information on elements and for a breakdown of type effectiveness.

4. Turn Actions

Each turn, your beasts can perform one of the following actions:

Use an ability or surge ability.

Defend themselves or an ally.

Rest to regain stamina.

Once all players have submitted their actions, the round is resolved with the following priority:

Resting beasts rest first.

Defending beasts defend next.

Abilities are resolved.

Within each action type, the order is determined by ability priority, beast speed, weight (with lightest going first), and then randomly if all those values are the same.

5. Abilities

Beasts start with 4 abilities: one surge ability (species-based), one neutral ability, and one ability for each element. If a beast's species and individual element match, they will have 3 abilities.

Abilities with elements can be super effective or resisted, affecting the damage dealt. Pay attention to moves' effectiveness and your foes' abilities for better results.

Abilities incur fatigue and the fatigue cost is shown on the ability button.

Abilities will generally have a small chance to miss or be a critical hit. The chances of these can vary per ability.

Abilities have 3 types: Combat, Projection, and Support.

Combat: Attack vs Defense

Projection: Focus vs Barrier

Support: Non-damage dealing abilities

6. Surge Abilities

When a beast's surge meter is full, they can use their surge ability for a powerful effect. Surge abilities don't incur fatigue and never miss. After using a surge ability, the surge meter goes back to 0%. Please note that the surge abilities in this demo may be changed before the game’s official launch.

7. Defending

Beasts can defend themselves or allies, reducing incoming damage by 75% for that turn. This effect does not stack. Defending slightly charges the defender's surge meter and recovers a small amount of stamina.

8. Resting

Resting recovers a substantial amount of stamina and a small amount of health.

Remember, understanding abilities, elements, defending, and resting will help you make the best decisions during battles. We have provided an in-app form you can use to report bugs and provide feedback. Good luck and enjoy the demo!

- you can see everything ever discovered in the itempedia (the nsfw items and items that are a bunch of numbers are hidden, but you can still see them in the discord bc there’s a bot that shows new items as they’re made!!)

- you can send/use guides which will walk you through how to get new items step by step

- item search in both ur items and the itempedia

- it says how many items you have so you can aim for bigger and bigger numbers

- the overall design is very nice

- the discord is a very nice helpful community if you want certain items but don’t know how to make them or if you want to show off things you have made

Donation Center NPC, Charity!

Been working on designs for Covelings recently, including NPCs. This is a work-in-progress design for one of the shopkeepers at the Donation Center, Charity! She's a kindhearted and outgoing Coveling who has a special interest in cats. The other Donation Center's shopkeeper, Salem, works the nightshift and we'll see them in the near future!

Charity is also an example of one of the most common Covelings in Crescent Cove! They're currently an unnamed species (I'd love some suggestions if you have any ideas), and have raptor-inspired feet and faces, as well as large tails that are aquatic in nature.

Obviously, none of this is set in stone yet, and I'll probably redesign some things. However, I'm pleased with the idea so far and hope to expand on it more in the future. I also have some ideas for some other Coveling species in Crescent Cove, but I'm focusing on NPCs only for now. Once I get around to NPCs of those other Coveling species, I'll make sure to design and share them here!

I'm Hooked On This Now!

After another excellent video from Stupendium I decided to pick up a new game. Fallen London. It's a free text-based browser game about a Steampunk themed London that falls deep underground (so deep hell is its literal neighbour) for no known reason. It's very Choose-Your-Own-Adventurey and it's loads of fun.

It's really funny in the beginning when it's asks for your sex. Instead of male-female-other it's lord-lady-why do you even care do you have nothing better to do, which is hilarious. You can choose how they address you too. I chose Madam. And of all the ways to start a story, they chose a prison break. XD

Seriously, I've only been here for a day and this game has been nothing less than an absolute delight. Just look at how much I've got done already. I know what I'll be doing from now on.

Development Update - September 2023

Hello hello everyone, Miyazaki here with another development update!

Mutations

On very rare occasions, a Beast may be born with a striking visual abonormality. These are Mutations.

Mutations are obtained primarily through breeding two Beasts together. Mutations are not passed down to offspring, meaning that parents who have Mutations are not any more likely to pass it down to their offspring than parents without Mutations. There will be methods available to increase the likelihood of a Beast being born with a Mutation.

Mutations will layer on top of all base colors and specials. They do not recolor. There will be methods to remove a Beast's Mutation, if the player does not want it on their Beast. A Beast can only ever have one Mutation at any given time.

There will be a difficult end-game method of adding Mutations to preexisting Beasts, but breeding will provide a higher odds.

Mythaura will launch with 3 Mutations, the first of which is Piebald.

Piebald

Piebaldism is a genetic mutation that has a pattern of unpigmented white spots on a pigmented background of hair, feathers, or scales. The Beast's skin under the white background is not pigmented.

Piebald is now live in the Beast Creator for you to experiment with.

Quarter 2 (2023) Ko-fi Concepts

Kobolds

Kobolds are a non-playable species. They will show up around Mythaura as shopkeepers and other NPCs, along with other sapient species like Harpies, Fauns, and Vitterfolk.

They are masters of magical spatial manipulation—they are itinerant by nature and insatiably curious collectors, so they developed the means to distort space to carry large amounts of items in a small space. These satchels are highly sought-after items for adventurers. While many of these satchels are created purely for function and are minimalist in design, some Kobold artisans specialize in making beautiful, exquisitely detailed bags. These are often sold for exorbitant prices. (Buyers beware that there is a thriving market for fraudulent satchels, especially in the larger cities!)

Kobolds showcase a wide variety of physical traits, often influenced by where they were born. Although their ancestral home is the desert of the Sun Path, Kobolds have long since spread to all corners Mythaura. Their design takes inspiration from alligators, lizards, jackals, and coati.

Weekend Traveler

We originally mentioned the Weekend Traveler in the June 2023 update. This Kobold will bring their rare, luxury wares into town every Friday through Sunday to sell to the player—so be sure to save up your gold and shards for their weekly visits!

Beast Design Contest Winners

Thank you for all the great submissions to the Beast Design Contest! You all never cease to impress us with your creativity. For the September 2023 Beast Creator Contest we’ve got our three winners: Hidranea, Zillychu, and Despot!

Our three winners will each have the rewards automatically applied to their accounts, and these three beasts will be featured on the homepage for Quarter 2 (October through December).

Keep an eye out for our next Beast Creator Contest–we’ll be gathering entries in December to display on our site for Quarter 3 (January through March).

Design Your Founders

After choosing one of the seven Boroughs, create your camp founders and name your piece of territory!

Customize

Paw Borough is all about expressing your unique style! On top of dressing your cat up with accessories*, each cat's page will feature a customizable backdrop. Players will  be able to place decor items in the scene, and any image will be resizable, rotatable, and draggable, including the cat!

*Note for development transparency: PawBorough has twenty breeds planned for the site's lifetime. During production, accessory items will be illustrated on all twenty breeds, regardless of the breeds currently available to the player base. This method of production is to ensure an efficient release of breeds, as well as to avoid severely hindering future development!

Because of this, accessories will be relatively limited at the start. We hope extensive decor and backdrop options will help to compensate during this period. Thank you!

A cat's page will also feature highly customizable "role" and "relationship" options! 

A cat's role in your territory can be custom written and featured on the page! Options such as "loner," "leader," and "camp member" are available to foster a player's own ideas. 

For the relationships tab, players can add their cats and, with permission, other players' cats! Relationship groups and individual titles are entirely customizable. Options such as "enemy," "mate," and "family" are available to foster a player's ideas.

Breed

Cats can be selectively chosen to breed new and exciting combinations. Two parents will be able to produce offspring which share their genes and color range.

However, in Paw Borough, a cat can have "primary" and "secondary" breeding characteristics, meant to reference the existence of dominant and recessive genes.

If a cat has a previous ancestry, there is a 20% chance that the color and gene option will be chosen from either the dam or sire's grandparent range. 

A cat's genetic characteristics and history will be traceable in the site library. We hope this mechanic can encourage new and creative breeding strategies for players to obtain their perfect family! 

Create

Create "pelt" and "partial pelt" items to put on your cat! Download our lineart and illustrate your own colors and markings. If you have a specific design or character you'd like to show off, now you can! The possibilities are endless! 

And if you'd really like to take matters into your own hands, you can create an "unclipped" pelt, giving you free rein to illustrate over the lineart and shading of the cat (so long as the illustration remains within the cat's silhouette.) 

The world is your oyster!

You will be able to sell your pelts and other art you make by setting up a shop in the Monarch Gallery! Skip out on buying the supplies and printing pelts yourself, we'll do it for you. You just take the profit!

The Monarch Gallery will also feature site-assisted commission listings. Advertise your portfolio, list what you will create, the timeframe, and choose how many slots you wish to fill.

Players can now commission artists with a site-facilitated delivery system, encouraging users to discover, value, participate, and appreciate the art of the community.

Note for clarity: to discourage players from expecting instant gratification from artists, not appreciating that labor takes time, and to disuade artists from engaging in said unhealthy culture, artists are not allowed to set the timeframe under three weeks, regardless of suspected delivery.This limit is subject to extension depending on player feedback.

Roleplay

Paw Borough is built on the culture of roleplay and imagination. We want our players to create their own worlds! 

In addition to player-driven forums, there is a specialized mechanic for customized private, public, and spectated roleplay! Choose a cat to represent each message, including a "narrator" option. 

During a thread, invite other players to join in, spectate, or keep it to yourselves for secret story elements!

Cook

Cook ingredients for food and decor items! By farming and hunting for raw food items, you can use them for cooking recipes. You may also use this feature to make incense, which can attract new cats with no recorded ancestry to your territory. 

Worn recipe pages can be found throughout Mewmoia... Oh, what's this? Each recipe seems to be handwritten with personal notes; perhaps collecting enough will start to reveal some Mewmoian history... 

Contribute to the Story

We are very excited to present site-guided community storytelling! With this feature, players are given choices on whether to "fulfill" or "answer" tasks requested by NPCs. Every option, including a collective failure or choice to not complete the task, will result in the forwarding of a collaborative site narrative! 

In our example*, players must collectively donate a total of 500 Wicker Baskets to aid the Luna Borough in solving tensions with the Sol Borough. Should it succeed, tensions will lift, and all Sol Borough cats will receive a free feeding! Should it fail, the feud will worsen and characters will begin discussing battle. 

Help NPCs form relationships, start fights, usurp leaders, destroy characters, and experience an ever-growing story through the generations of Mewmoia.

Task requirements will range in variety. Both site-wide NPCs and borough-specific NPCs will have both major and minor storytelling tasks. 

*This storyline example is purely for proof of concept, and is not necessarily indicative of canon tasks which will be presented on the site.

For our campaign, we chose to only showcase features we are certain that successful funding will go towards building, in an effort to remain clear with our backers and to not over-promise.

However, that does not equal the end of our plans! We have so much more in store, and a successful campaign opens the door for us to expand just as we dream to!
