so i’ve been struggling with finishing stranger things because of the character of billy. and i’m genuinely confused now because i keep seeing that he is racist (my reason for not wanting to finish the show because i deal with that shit enough in my personal life.) and then i see people being all “he’s not, darce said so himself.” but then i look it up to see if the duffer brother’s had anything to say and find this: 

imean i’m personally inclined to go with what the duffer brother’s say since they, you know, created the show. now i’m not here to shit on anyone that decided they relate to billy as a character because i do acknowledge that he is a victim of abuse, but i guess the real question is why are people holding onto what darce said with a death grip but not mentioning what the duffer brother’s said. like i looked into vulture and they seem like a legit site, and this was an interview that they did with the actual creators of the show who would have a deeper understanding of their creation.

took some time to process the d3 trailer and i’m not happy yall. they really out here making the woc the bad guys just to prop mal up on her white savior pedestal. like REALLY DISNEY??? REALLY??? and don’t even get me started on the rest of the trailer. the only thing that made me smile was uma and her pirate baes. i can’t even comment on anyone else because they were barely in it, except for ben who proposed (why the actual fuck are they even going there) and then is turning beast for some unknown reason smh.

icb dany and her three dragons are alive and well, and living life just fine after winning the war and not torching all of kl’s. like wow, dany did what she had to do, without burning innocent ppl in the process, and now she’s queen and her and sansa never had beef because she agreed to give the north their independence. also shout out to jon for not doing anything stupid in the finale, and going to go get ghost and chilling beyond the wall for a lil bit before going back home and living that peaceful life he wanted with ghost at his side. and congrats to sansa for becoming queen in the north. like amazing icb the show is over and that was the ending we got, like it wasn’t perfect but it was better than them doing something stupid like having all the characters development undone so d&d can pull some ooc bullshit out of their asses.

So as much as I love getting extra Uma content, I really dislike this narrative that they are trying to shove down our throats regarding “Mal the Liberator”. Mal has never once put herself out there as a liberator, and every single person on the Isle knows that Mal is notoriously selfish. So to me it’s laughable that anyone would buy the propaganda that Auradon is pumping out trying to paint Mal as a liberator just so they can avoid giving Uma the credit she deserves for getting Ben’s mind back on track regarding the Isle. FURTHERMORE, I refuse to believe Uma would be dumb enough to buy into or remotely believe any of the propaganda, like Uma’s beef with Mal is all about the fact that Mal was a trashcan of a person to her and tormented her for several years after betraying their friendship. They could have honestly kept Uma’s speech the same, had her assign the blame where it belongs (which is with Beast), and then bring up her beef with Mal by referencing the fact that Mal got in the way of her plans in D2. That honestly would have been more believable imo. Like honestly if they wanted to blame something on Mal they could have picked from her already long list of offenses towards any and everyone, they didn’t have to make up this silly “Mal the Liberator” narrative.

whew chile the homemade theatrics, windows movie maker effects, and utter disrespect for China being the better singer. 

I have thoughts about the Under the Sea short and other than being completely disappointed I’m just confused as hell. 

For the positive tho, shout out to anna, dylan, thomas, and china for the bomb ass acting. I loved how anna was able to capture the sassiness and boss bitch divatude of uma. I appreciated Gil being the pure sunshine child that he is (just give him a moment in D3 where he puts his problem solving/puzzle solving skills to use because Gil IS NOT JUST A BIG DUMMY HE IS ACTUALLY GOOD AT DOING THINGS.). I highkey appreciated seeing Harry not at all liking or caring about Mal and being ready to throw down at any second. And as usual I loved Uma so she can do no wrong in my eyes, and China looked goodt af. 

For the shit that just left me frowning up, can we say literally everything else. Like why was Mal swimming around in bed sheets? How did they not expect us to know that Mal was dreaming the second she jumped her non swimming ass in the water. And most importantly, why give us a cover and why not have China be the main lead for that particular song because the narrative they were trying to sell actually fit Uma’s story and Mal would have no reason to declare that she was “stronger” after Uma because Mal was the one that betrayed, and tormented Uma while on the Isle. So that whole duet was wasted and improperly lead IMHO, but thank god for China and the fact that she still stole the show with the little singing time that she got. 

For the questions I had, when was this in the timeline again? Was it before Cotillion? Because that would make sense that Uma was testing out magic and what not, but does that mean that Mal went back to the Isle after she escaped with Ben and met up with Dizzy? But if that’s the case then why was her necklace still on the Isle and how did she get it back in time for Cotillion? Or is this between D2 and D3 and Uma managed to open up a hole in the barrier to get onto the Isle after Cotillion and met up with Harry and Gil, and Mal went back to the Isle for whatever reason? Like I’m confused so if someone knows where in the timeline this was supposed to be lmk. Also was the glowing orb that Mal thought was her dad really Uma or nah because that part wasn’t exactly clear to me.

Also did I mention that she looked GOODT af tho? Hennyways all I got out of this was that Harry hates Mal, Gil is loyal af, Uma is THAT BOSS BITCH, and Uma is actually more powerful that we actually know and they need to explore that more in the upcoming movie (which we know they won’t). Also Mal still owes Uma an apology and needs to stop treating my girl like she’s a cookie cutter villain.

1/4 Hello again! I just wanted to gush about Uma because she's such an interesting character and really her and the crew's scenes are what made D2 bearable. As a foil to Mal I think she may have out done her by a mile which I don't think was the writer's intention, ironically. Both are daughters of villains but Mal wants to emulate her mom while Uma clearly wants to escape her's, (especially since Uma owns a ship; the thing that originally killed her mother) in that difference and their shared

2/4 history, Mal’s bullying and betrayal, Uma seemed to have come out stronger. She became confident on her own terms and became powerful from the ground up, starting her own crew (with a mix of people who are clearly older than her, a tough thing to do), managing to win a semi-functional pirate ship, gaining and managing territory on the isle and working for her abusive mother day in and day out. Her rise to power is a classic kind of admirable bc we know the isle is bad, we know the isle ¾ doesn’t offer much and that the parents are abusive if not neglectful but here’s this little badass doing so much in spite of all of that. But I think as a bonus Uma also acknowledges that they don’t deserve to live that way. A cage is still a cage no matter how good it is and I think that’s Mal’s issue. She sees the isle as a playground bc that’s what it is to her but if she stayed in the isle I doubt she would have the same easy life she did before leaving. W/o her mom and her unpopularity 4/4 after the VKs betrayal she would be right at the bottom bc now she’s a traitor and her bargaining chip mother is gone. Uma played everything straight, gained power, influence and loyalty and still wants better for her crew because life on the isle still sucks, perks or not. Also Uma’s cohesion with her crew is interesting. They may not have lines but they are always around her and everything she does refers to them using we, our, us in her songs making them seem more like a unit.

Yes to all of this. Uma is a stronger character, leader, and main character than Mal ever was - not to mention easier to empathize with and a WHOLE lot more engaging. Uma’s not perfect - she’s still entirely willing to destroy Auradon - but she’s got more understandable motives than Mal, that’s for sure.

Can we talk Harry and What's My Name? Its our intro to Uma. The song is all about her. And in his part of the song which serves as a way to give more info about him, Harry says Uma's hot. Its how his ends: Uma's so hot theyll get burned if they look. The line in and of itself too. It doesnt say "Uma's so hot youll get burned if you look" encompassing anyone who looks at her including himself. he says THEYLL. They. It excludes him. Hes talking about everyone else. 👀👀👀

Obviously Harry has no issue staring at the Sun if that Sun’s name is Uma and also happens to be a sea goddess.
