HotD episode 10 was a masterpiece, one I both adored and hated. The entire episode felt like a dream of being chased yet having the feeling of not being able to run at all.

There were so many things I wish to highlight. But first, the ironies:

The cruel irony of how everyone had to lose something to attain the crown. While Viserys lost his body, Rhaenyra lost her child (and recieved the crown in front of the pyre)

The way that Daemon ignored Rhaenyra's gut-wrenching calls to him but was the first to bend the knee, fulfilling his role as her ally but failing as her companion.

The fact most predominantly shown was how without the dragons... Targaryens are nothing. To think that the Dance of Dragons began because of a Dragon refusing the command of their rider.

The way Rhaenyra, even through her pain, made it a priority to inform her sons of what had happened in order to save them the pain.

There were also so many parallels in this episode.

Both Daemon and Corlys refusing to acknowledge that they weren't the only ones who have lost a child (completely sidetracking the sentiments of their spouses to have their overdramatic diva moments).

Rhaenyra stripping Otto of his pin, the same way her father did.

Daemon crowning Rhaenyra, the same way he put the crown on his brother's head.

And finally, Rhaenyra receiving the crown standing in front of the burning pyre of her child facing away from it, and in the end... recieving the news of Luke's death standing alone, facing refusal of her claim as a ruler in front of a fire, looking towards it rather than away, thus disregarding her desire to not be a queen of the ashes... now she wishes to set it ablaze herself.

All in all, it was a fitting end to season one and I can't wait to see how season two turns out.

(I have not read the books and all my interpretations are based solely on the show)

I think Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fore would have been way funnier if Jon Snow was born with the silver hair and purple eyes of the Targs simply because I like to imagine Ned Stark coming up with ever more frantic reasons that Jon Snow looks like That. Imagine him going "oh haha his mum was Lyseni yes mhm don't look too hard at this excuse" or "he's uhhhhhh albino yep" or "he had an accident with some bleach". And Robert just fully accepts the ever worse excuses and thinks that poor little Jon Snow is an albino half Lyseni boy who has very unfortunate accidents all the time with cleaning products.

I have… so many

First, I’m a firm believer that everyone would be obsessed with and making excuses for everything Cersei did if she were a man. She’s such a complex, compelling character, and I wish more people would spend their time dissecting her and her motives and personality instead of lumping her into either “evil woman” or “girlboss” categories because I’m fascinated by her

People act like Cat is the devil incarnate when the most she did was not include Jon. Like she didn’t throw him down the stairs or hit him or anything, she just didn’t love him like a son, and honestly in her circumstances, I think that’s totally fine. You mean to tell me that your husband goes off to war, leaving you pregnant/with a newborn, and returns with another baby that is the child of another woman that you’d love him with open arms? She’s complex! She could have been so much worse, and actually beaten him or abused him, but the worst she did was act indifferent

And not controversial but in case you forgot - Team Black all the way

I also have a convoluted theory about Griffin/Aegon but I won’t bore you all (unless you want it hehe)

As for Dany, my sweet sweet Dany… I know that GRRM is not giving her the same fate as the TV show, so thank god. We also know that in some way, her and Jon are connected with one another (she felt when he died and all that other stuff I can’t remember right now) and the point of Dany is that she’s breaking the wheel. She’s ending the cycle. Putting her on the Iron Throne completely defeats and disregards her entire character, so I don’t think she’ll end up there. I know GRRM has compared her to Jesus before, in the savior/messiah and gets betrayed kind of way, so I honestly wonder if she’ll die but come back, similar to whatever Jon’s got going on (parallels and foils people!) She’ll be the savior of Westeros, but not in the way that we think, and all I can hope for her is that she lives a long happy life with her children and no harm comes to any of them ever

olenna tyrell confessing her crimes to jaime is such a great scene

and one of the great things about it is the PARALLELS between olenna and jaime

they both killed a king because they knew that it had to be done and they were backed into a corner: jaime knew that he had to kill either his father or the king, olenna knew that she either had to watch her granddaughter being married to a literal monster or kill the king

and they both wanted to save others from a violent, unpredictable, monstrous ruler

jaime thinks he hates olenna for what she did but he of all people should understand that she HAD to do it and that she had no other choice

Some more comments on the demo.

I'm not able to play it because I don't have a PS5 and there won't be one in the cards for a while, but I at least found a good, thorough playthrough that didn't have some streamer yammering over the dialogue, so that will have to do.

I'm writing as a I watch, so there's gonna be a lot here.

-I loved seeing Sephiroth act and speak so casually! Back then, he really was just a guy, huh?

-And holy crap, is that seriously Caleb Pierce doing the voice of Shinra Security Officer Who Is Actually Cloud? Kinda on the nose, but I like it. Maybe in Cloud's dumpster fire of a psyche, not only does he remember being the SOLDIER 1st Class, but he remembers Zack as being the security guard.

-OMFG, Master Zangan! LOL, this fuckin guy. Three seconds after meeting Cloud he's feeling him up! And man, he's got some huge Patrick Warburton energy going on.

-Only three beds in the room at the inn? Guess one of the boys is gonna have to double up with Sephiroth.

-Let me just state for the record that I really like Cloud as a character. That said, when he was a teenager? He was, uh...a wee bit of a creeper. His favorite spot to hang out just happens to face what I assume is Tifa's bedroom window. And what does he do when he knows he's alone in the house? Goes into her bedroom and starts going through her stuff. At least the ladies called his ass out for that this time, because that sequence never did sit right with me.

-I'll bet Sephiroth was ready to buy Random Villager Guy a drink. RVG keeping those looky loos and stans away like a champ! He even had to keep them away from the INN! I really understand why he wanted nothing to do with the "hero" role. Yep, let Genesis go be the Taylor Swift of the FFVII-verse and see how HE likes it.

-Tifa is so tiny next to Sephiroth! Then again, everyone is. Dude's a freakin' TANK.

-Wow, that photographer's an even bigger asshole this time around. Seriously, dude? Taking a picture not only without Sephiroth's permission but when his back is turned?

-The "oh...FINE!" body language when Cloud asked, though.

-And I reiterate. Sephiroth. SUCH a bro here. All I hear is Clark Kent when he talks.

-So it just occurred to me that Sephiroth was deliberately the first one to fall in the river because he knew he'd have to save everyone and he didn't even know how far of a drop it was. That bridge collapsed under the sheer weight of his balls.

-And his horror and devastation at losing one of his men will never not gut me. Everyone was dry by the time he got back, so you know he was out there looking for that dude for a LONG time, too. That's a huge change from "sorry for your luck, pal, but we have a mission to finish." That's what makes his tragic fall all the more inexplicable. In the OG, his coldness had you thinking "yeah, I can see this guy having a Face-Heel Turn easy." But here? With him so protective of those weaker than him and his emotional investment in his people? You don't go from that to "burn them all," even when a severe mental breakdown is involved. I may talk more about this later. ("Oh. Yay." --everybody)

-*Sephiroth has joined the party*-

-Serious question: is there anything in the lore that I missed that states there's no PPE that can protect from mako? Because when Sephiroth said "mako this thick is very dangerous," I thought "maybe bring some respirators next time then?" Yeah, probably no NIOSH rating high enough to filter out spirit energy.

-Yep, definitely no love lost between Seph and the sperm donor.

-Yeah, Barret, it's not making a whole lot of sense to me either at this point.

-"Am I even...human?" Fuck. It's going even harder in Rebirth.

-And the library sequence. Double fuck. The rage in his voice at the end. The madness. And that strange breathing after he glitched? I'll bet he was trying to fight off Jenova and he failed. Sorry, Vincent, but I think Seph is the one that should be able to take out Hojo.

Aaaand that's enough self-imposed psychological torture for the day. I can't watch what comes next.

Jenova used his anger, his devastation and his sleep deprivation to get a toehold. Which makes me think, what if in the trilogy's lore she started piloting him? No, I don't mean controlling his mind or even heavily influencing him? What if she's using him as a vessel? I mean like the deities, angels and demons on Supernatural. She's driving the boat now, and he's in the back of his mind screaming, because he's aware of the things she's making her new meat suit do and he can't stop it.

I'm not trying to let anyone's dirty rotten CGI girlfriend-ganking butt off the hook here if anyone wants to accuse me of that sort of thing. I'm merely saying that burning a village full of innocents is not the actions to expect from the Sephiroth we've come to know in the demo. Yes, he's a SOLDIER who has probably had to do some very unpleasant things under orders, but there was no reason for this. Going from zero to genocide straight out of the blue is inexplicable, I don't care how bad the mental breakdown was.

It's just the only thing that makes sense at this point. People like him get angry, sure. They rage, sure. They swear vengeance on the people who wronged them, sure. But they don't kill innocent people because of it and in such a horrific way. At their most violent, they may find Hojo and try to see how loudly and for how long he can scream.

Bog standard villains don't get this kind of "good guy" lead up to their nefarious deeds, and he's getting that treatment big time from both Rebirth and Ever Crisis. That's usually only reserved for the Chaotic Neutral and redeemable types that were supposed to like. There's nothing in that backstory so far to suggest that he was capable of a Nibelheim-level mass murder. Sure, there's headcanons that he was just a fuse waiting to be lit, but nothing official even hints at that. This came out of NOWHERE.

Maybe I'm not seeing the big picture or whatever, but the extreme change in behavior, the senseless violence...why would FFVII do that to the audience? To torture us? That's just cruel. Even Game of Thrones didn't do the audience that dirty with Danaerys Targaryen (if you didn't see her Face-Heel Turn coming from a mile away, you were watching a different show than me, because she was always a Heel. She just brutalized people who had it coming until King's Landing.).

And I'm out. If you've managed to stick around this long or even read this at all, thank you. If you want to argue, please save it for another day because I'm REALLY not in the mood. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go drink. A lot.

daemon and rhaenyra interacting in episode two has me thinking since the egg was so dark. what if it’s that egg that ends up in their shared aegon’s cradle? what if they’re just passing around stormcloud like a ball?

I just enjoy golden haired smug bastard law enforcers with way too much power and violent tendencies, but ultimately, they’re just a pawn to a greater power with very little say in what they do. Also, they have a troubled past marred by one major violent incident that regarded them as a war hero to some and as an absolute violent criminal monster to others, depending on which side of the war you’re on.  

Oh, and they end up in a situation with their sworn enemy that means they have to work together to survive and they end up gaining a deep mutual respect for one another that could be interpreted as something more. Then their respect for this person becomes a problem coz they’re on opposing sides of the war and it leads to them getting all conflicted over where their true allegiances lie and they start to doubt some of the things they did in the past.  

And of course, they switch sides to help the good guys fight for what's right, motivated by their respect and possible feeling for their enemy turned friend, and that enemy turned friend vouches for them and they fight together like some sort of sexy little battle couple.

You point to the bleachers. “Thirty steps.”

Two squints at the field in the distance. “You can see each step?”

“Can’t you?”

“Uh,” He squints more, leaning forward as if that would help him. “No???”

You laugh and he blushes. “Do you need glasses?? It’s not that far!”

“Shut up! I don’t!”

“You definitely do. Didn’t you misread the board earlier?”

“N-no, I—“

“ ‘And the boy laughed and jumped and ran to embrace the…. bog.’ “

Two groans and you punch his shoulder playfully before leaning back on your arms in the grassy field.

It was another perfectly dull day. As usual, though, you both had made your way to the long-unused football field after class. No budget for a team lately. Definitely no budget to keep the grass green.

Two plucks a weed and hands it to you.

“Oh for me?” You take it and wave it in the air. “You shouldn’t have!”

“That one is better than the other ones.”

“Because of the flower?” A thin yellow flower decorates the top of the stem. It’s simple, but cute.

“Duh.”

You delicately break the stem under the petals and tuck the flower into your hair. “You did choose a nice one.”

He turns away quickly back to face the bleachers and clears his throat. “Yeah, thanks.”

“You alright?”

“Yeah, I’m…” he coughs, “uh, I’m, yeah, it’s…sorry—“

“Sorry??”

“Er, what did you ask again?”

You burst into laughter and he blushes, red tinting all the way to the tips of his ears.

“You’re the worst!!”

“I’m not!!” You shove him into he grass and he leaps back up to his knees, shoving you in return. You fall on your back with a loud laugh and he crawls over you with a scowl. You note that he’s still blushing — it’s adorable.

“Hey.”

“Yes?”

He blinks rapidly, staring down at you in silence. You find your heart caught in your throat suddenly as the mood shifts to something new — something different. He dips down a bit closer and your breath hitches. “T-Two?”

He pauses for a moment, staring at you. As if weighing what he wants to say against saying anything else. But then he closes his eyes, opens them slowly, and speaks.

“I like you.”

You didn’t expect that. His face is beet red, but he’s holding your gaze firmly. Are his arms shaking? They might be shaking, actually?

“Two—“

“You don’t have to like me back.” He rolls off of you until his back is on the grass and he’s staring at the sunset sky. He sighs. “I just needed to tell you.”

You prop up on your elbows and stare forward for a moment, processing your thoughts. You’d been friends for… god knows how long, really. For as far as you can remember.

It’s Two. Two.

More than friends? With… Two?

Why doesn’t it feel… wrong?

He calls your name and snaps you from your reverie. Your head turns to face him, and you’re a bit surprised to see that the blush has settled down. He’s looking at you now with that familiar, protective concern.

“You alright?”

“Yeah.”

“Sorry. Maybe I shouldn’t have said that.”

You shake your head quickly and make up your mind.

Before he can protest, you roll yourself over him until it’s you now staring down at the other in the grass. His eyes widen as you lift one hand to touch his cheek.

“I like… that you like me.”

“You do?”

You nod and he swallows. He hesitantly brings a hand up to touch your face and you lean into the touch.

“You really mean it?”

“Yes. I promise.”

A wide grin breaks across his face.

Ok this took me a second because I have… so many. And if you want me to expand on anything or share anything more specific I would be happy to <3

- even though D+D absolutely butchered the Dorne storyline, I still kinda love it. Like, in the books, Ellaria gives a whole speech on revenge to the Sandsnakes and the jist of it is “your father spent his whole life trying to get revenge for Elia, you’ll spend your whole lives trying to get revenge for him, your younger sisters will spend their whole lives trying to get revenge for you - where does it end?” basically saying how they can’t do exactly what they did in the show lmao - even though they’re very different characters, I still love Ellaria and the Sandsnakes in the show

- Dany is the prince that was promised

- So many female characters get hated because they’re complex and well-written - like Cersei is a psycho bitch but she’s complex and a wonderful villain and I think she’s such a cool character, a vast majority of the women in the books (at least from what I can remember) have depth and complexities that fanboys can’t comprehend - if Cersei was a man, everyone would love her no matter how crazy she may be

- anyone who’s Team Green (in HOTD/Fire and Blood) is a misogynist, the entire reason why Aegon took the throne was because Rhaenrya was a woman - also you can like characters on either side, I just mean explicitly supporting Aegon’s ascent to the throne

- until RGGM writes it, I refuse to believe that Jon is a Targaryen lmao
