Bellatrix Black - Headcanon #12
Bellatrix's mother, Druella, died in childbirth with her youngest sister, Narcissa. As a result, the maternal role in the family was largely taken up by their father's sister, Walburga.
Their aunt is stern, but well-meaning when it comes to the girls, and took it upon herself to teach them many of the family ideals and behavior that was expected of them.

"Yes." She breathed. "More than anything." She looked straight at Him, determined not to look away or appear to lose face. She knew that such an opportunity would not come again if she refused Him, and honestly, why would she?
"Good. I hope I am right about you, Bella." He said, his lips curling up in a semblance of a smile. Bellatrix wondered briefly what others would say if they knew where she was going... Andromeda would probably have a fit, but then, Bellatrix was dubious about her loyalties as it was and knew the time would come fairly soon when the two confronted one another about the situation. Narcissa... Well, she would worry, of course, but how much stock would she put on propriety in such a case?
For Bellatrix could not deny that what she was doing was hardly proper - to the outside world, she was going away without a word to spend time at the residence of a man she barely knew, but in reality, she felt quite differently. She felt as though she'd known Him for many years, having idolized Him since she learnt of the conflict which raged around them, and could not deny her excitement at His decision to train her alone. Her father would probably try to stop her, but Bellatrix was increasingly aware of his diminishing control over her. Aunt Walburga would probably encourage her, but warn her to remain ladylike, and Regulus would want to follow her. Only a boy, he at least already seemed set on making the right decisions. Bellatrix was jolted from her thoughts by the Dark Lord clearing his throat. He raised an eyebrow as she looked over
"Shall we?" The Dark Lord held out His arm and Bellatrix took it, casting a last look at the dark forest behind them, before she felt the strange pull of Side-Along Apparition, and then they were gone, the pop of apparating barely audible as they disappeared from the forest.
Reconnaissance || Bellatrix/Narcissa
What was only seconds seemed an eternity to Narcissa, she had run a thousand escenarios in her head, and going against what she believed to be her better interest she had decided to follow them. She was cautious all grace and stealth, a distant memory floating in her head, oh the irony, she bitterly thought, she remembered Slughorn telling her how she could have a bright future as an Auror, skill and charm, determination and Narcissa had cut him short, laughing in his face, then arching an eyebrow once she realized he was being serious about it. No one had ever told her that she was good for something other that a housewife, but she had made her promise to her mother, she was going to follow her father’s orders, she would never waste her time in something like that, or so she had told her Professor.
They were very dangerous thoughts to be having right now she realized, and she promptly shook the memories. Narcissa kept her distance, but she was still able to hear every word they said, it was as if the soft wind was carrying them to her ears, as if life wanted her to know. She came to the conclusion that once they apparated she would not be able to follow them, while it was true that she was skilled at the art, having learned well before her time to take the tests, something her father connections had arranged, she didn’t feel confident about keeping quiet if she happened to pop next to them.
Her sister was going away for the weekend?! Everything just kept getting worse, she knew she wasn’t in position to questions her sisters actions, it will surely be looked down if she had gone away with anyone else, but this man, he was worshiped by those that might have frowned their noses at her sisters escapades. Narcissa knew it wasn’t like that, Bellatrix was going to be trained to fight the war that kept Cissy awake at night. It was like seeing her life starting to crumble, Bella was going to leave her soon, and then when she least expected everyone she ever loved and cared about would be gone.

I care very little for your academic prowess, cousin.

What on earth...
I don’t know when you’re going to realize that I’m top of my class right there with Jamie, but I hope it’s soon.

"As you know, the Hogwarts grounds are warded, so we must make our way past the boundaries before we can apparate." As they walked, the Dark Lord spoke, his words carrying into the darkness. He did not speak again until Bellatrix noticed the trees of the Forest grow sparser as they continued, until they were right on the edge of the woods near Hogsmeade. "I am wary of going much further towards the town, Bella. It is important you are not seen leaving with me."
"Forgive me, my Lord, but where precisely is it that we are going?" She asked, carefully. She would have followed Him most anywhere, but she was curious as to where she was going that would require an extended stay of a weekend.
"One of my residences. Suffolk. Sufficiently far, I would say, that we will not be interrupted, and you will not be found if the school do note your absence. I trust you made your excuses?" Voldemort asked, raising an eyebrow. Bellatrix blinked, shocked. She hadn't expected that. Perhaps a base of the organisation, but never did she imagine that she might visit His own home. She recovered fairly quickly and nodded.
"Yes. I do not believe my absence will be commented upon, in any case." She replied, distractedly. Voldemort laughed. "Do not sound so bewildered, Bella. It is far more convenient for me to train you in Suffolk, without interruption from others who require my attention. You will stay there when necessary." He tilted his head to one side, his cold blue eyes boring into hers. "And besides... You want this, do you not?"
Reconnaissance || Bellatrix/Narcissa
Her whole world was spinning, every word they spoke tore at her heart, Narcissa was glad to have the tree supporting her, otherwise she would’ve already sank to the floor. It had been a wise decision to cover her mouth, she could feel the tears sliding, she had always had a pretty crying face, or so they had told her, every single thing about her had been praised, except what she wanted them to notice.
She tried to understand why she was feeling like that, it wasn’t as if she hadn’t heard Bellatrix voicing her opinions, no, her wishes, she should’ve had known that Bella always gets what she wants, and she had wanting nothing more but to make their father proud. And now there she was, with the most powerful dark wizard ever to walk these grounds. Cissy had to admit that she was surprised at how her sister was being treated, but she wondered what would happened if she was discovered. Will he took any retribution against her sister?
Maybe it would be wise to just leave, she was more than certain that her charm will not fool him easily, and if she made the slightest mistake he would surely pick it up. Something he told Bella made her remember that he was a praised legimens, was he able to hear her thoughts too? All those occlumency lessons started to float around her mind, she had to be strong, she had to block him out. The part of her that always held her back tried to disuade her by saying that stupid little girl would never be able to keep out someone like him, you will never be able to lie to him, but the part of her that loved Bellatrix replied, for my sister I will.
They started to walk and Narcissa saw her chance there, she needed only to let them walk far enough so that they would not hear her retreat, she would go back to the castle and no one would ever find out. But her heart and that crazy instinct convinced her to trail after them, they had talked about war, a war she had been praying would never happen, the war that was taking half of her family and all of her friends.

"But then, I would not expect anything else." The Dark Lord stopped in front of her, extending a hand to Bellatrix as she knelt on the ground. She took it and stood, looking up to meet His eyes, which held more than a touch of amusement.
"My Lord. You honor me, once again." Bellatrix said, the reverence clear in her tone. The whole experience was surreal. Only a couple of months ago, she had barely allowed herself to wonder what would happen if she was allowed to join the ranks, and here she was with the man she had idolized for so long, standing before the opportunity not only to prove herself, but to follow her own wishes for once.
"You honor yourself. I do not extend such opportunities to everyone, as you very well know." He said, looking down at Bellatrix. "I summoned you... because I believe that if you are serious about joining me, which I thoroughly believe you are, it is high time for your training to begin." Bellatrix's eyes widened as Lord Voldemort spoke, but He did not give her a chance to reply. He lowered his voice.
"You must understand, Bella, war is an unsavory experience, and hardly any place for a lady. You will have to do unpleasant things and put aside any misgivings you may have about causing harm. I would hope you are aware of this, but I have never forced somebody into my ranks and I will not do so to you." As He spoke, Bellatrix nodded, already sure of her convictions, but also surprised He would feel he needed to warn her. After all, she had chosen this, and not blindly.
"Ah, Bella, the young are all too easy to corrupt." The Dark Lord spoke with what sounded like a hint of sadness, and Bellatrix realised with a jolt that he was using Legilimency. She shouldn't have been surprised, but her Occlumency was not particularly advanced, and she had no way of knowing what He could see in her thoughts.
"My Lord, I would not call it corrupting." Bellatrix laughed softly, looking away as He scrutinised her face.
Lord Voldemort smiled. "I would. Come, walk with me." He turned, and Bellatrix moved to follow Him immediately, her cloak swirling behind her.
Reconnaissance || Bellatrix/Narcissa
The school work had been pilling by the hour, Narcissa regretted the week she had spent home, it wasn’t like her to hate spending time at the state, years prior she would’ve done anything to have her parents pull her out of school for no reason but to spend some time away from the ungrateful creatures she was forced to call classmates. But the summer had impacted their lives, and for the first time in years she had found herself wanting to come back to the castle and forget about home. Her week away had only given her an insane amount of late schoolwork, so she had been staying late the library trying to get them done, she was not going to ruin her perfect scores.
Narcissa had gotten Slughorn’s permission to wander the halls at a late hour, she also had a paper slip explaining the librarian that she had late access to the premises. After packing all her books and parchments Narcissa had walked out of the library, she could still see some Ravenclaw’s huddled together, at least she wouldn’t had to close up, it was something asked for the last one leaving the room. She had started to made her way to the dungeons, her soft bed in her mind, but when she walked past the Great Hall a shadow caught her attention, she would’ve recognize that anywhere, it had been by her side all her life, they had grown up together, her sister Bellatrix was unmistakable.
Part of her wanted to run up to her and ask her was she was feeling the wall as if hoping to find something in the stone, another part of her begged to continue walking to the dorms, it was none of her business, the voice seemed to insists. But when she saw Bella disappear through an invisible hole on the wall, the most dominant part of Narcissa told her that she must follow. Casting a disillusionment charm to conceal herself from her sister, something she knew was going to be a hard task, her sister was unmatchable and brilliant, Cissy took a deep breath and prayed for the best, after finding the right spot she found herself in a narrow corridor, a secret passage, she realized, and using all her skill she trailed after her sister.
Light at the end of the narrow corridor inform her that Bella must have opened a door, she hoped it was not hard to find, and hurried making sure her footsteps were not heard. It seemed like her sister was deliberating whether to step out or not, so Narcissa had to press herself against the wall to stay concealed. Once she stepped outside she realized they were in the Forbidden Forest, a wave of relief washed over her, the natural sounds and the bad light will be enough to follow Bella without being discovered. Narcissa kept herself along the tree line, she could see the determination in her sister steps, she missed her, they were still close but she could see the rift growing between them, she could not lose her.
They arrived at a clearing, and Bellatrix stopped, Cissy did not emerge from the thickness and cover that the trees offered, she mimicked her sisters stance and leaned against a tree, glancing down she could see the charm still working perfectly, so Bella was meeting someone here, who could she possible need to meet outside the comfort of the castle. A feeling of despair started to fill her heart, something was not right, she shouldn’t have followed her, but before she could walk away her suspicions became true, the voice was as unmistakable as her sister’s shadow had been. Narcissa felt frozen against the tree, she brought both of her hands to cover her mouth and nose, all her strength keeping her from running away. It was true then, her sister … her sister was with him.

Reconnaissance || Bellatrix/Open
Her wand tucked in her sleeve, Bellatrix opened and closed the door of her dormitory with a soft click and stole silently out of the dungeons. She continued along the corridor, and nearing the Great Hall, slipped into the secret passages. The claustrophobic paths got narrower and darker as she went along, but she felt a faint breeze on her face before long which signaled she was nearing the end of the passageway. She came out at the base of one of the walls facing the forbidden forest through a panel of stone which would move if pressed in the correct way. She checked around her and seeing nobody, stepped out onto the grass towards the Forbidden Forest.
She took a moment to glance up at the sky, where a nearly full moon was glowing brightly above her. She shivered, and pulling her cloak tighter around herself, continued into the forest. Other than the odd animal noise or gust of wind, Bellatrix could hear no sounds. After a few minutes of walking, she came to a clearing where the moon shone onto the foliage littering the ground, and stopped. There was nobody present, as far as she could see. She was about to lean back against a tree and wait, when a low voice startled her.
“Impressively punctual, Bella.” A tall, cloaked shadow, seeming to melt from between the trees, came towards her, illuminated by the moonlight. Bellatrix stepped forward, sinking gracefully to her knees as the Dark Lord approached.

Bellatrix Black || Self Para || Summons
The parchment was not one she recognized, and Bellatrix's heart leapt as she scanned the note.
"Miss Black,
I wish to meet with you tonight. I shall await you in the Forbidden Forest at the eleventh hour this evening. Come alone.
I believe you have no classes over the weekend, so bring your belongings for an absence of two days.
Do not disappoint me.
L.V."
Bellatrix glanced at the grandfather clock in the corner of her room. Half past nine. She looked out across the lake and shivered in anticipation.
Bellatrix glanced at the note again. She traced the writing with a finger absentmindedly. An extended absence? As the school week was over, and she had no classes for the next two days, it ought not to be a problem. But she might be missed...
She picked up a quill and wrote a quick note herself.
“Meda, please tell anybody who inquires that I am feeling unwell and do not wish to be disturbed. Bella.” She charmed the note to float to her sister’s room, where it settled on the bed, unseen by anybody else. She gathered a few possessions into a charmed bag and grabbed her cloak from a hook on the back of the door.
All that was left to do was wait. Finding she could concentrate on little else, Bellatrix simply sat by the window, counting the minutes until it was time for her to depart.
