About his situation, Ahmed's father needs an urgent liver resection. On top of this, he also needs dialysis treatments and oxygen to keep him alive. The medicine and treatment is costly, and Ahmed is left solely responsible for his father, without a stable income to support him, as donations are slow.

Slow donations are also what can lead people to their deaths, Ahmed was forced out of hunger and despiration to visit one of the Gaza 'humanitarian' hubs where his leg was severely injured, and risks amputation. He needs urgent surgery to reconnect the tendons in his leg.

Imagine being solely responsible for your father, for bringing him food, water... and being unable to due to becoming disabled yourself? Imagine the stress and guilt of being unable to provide the medical care your father needs?

Seriously, could you imagine the sheer humiliation the people of Gaza are experiencing? No food, no medicine or health care system... and privileged people behind a screen just scroll past...

I think the only thing I don't agree with you on is your dislike for nostalgia, otherwise you're one of my favorite internet critters. Ironically, I think one of the reasons I find so much joy in your posts is because you remind me of how one of my childhood friends was. Why the hatred for nostalgia?

I don't hate reminiscing on old things, I just dislike the usage of Nostalgia as this quick, cheap tool in invoking an emotional response out of someone. I don't like how 99% of the world uses nostalgia - they treat it as a novel, disposable little referential device, or as an aesthetic veneer to mask a poorly-executed creative work.

Your melodies aren't any less shallow just because you learned what tape distortion and pitch warble is. Your TV show isn't any less poorly written just because you've dressed it up in an 80s theme. Your movie isn't good merely because it references an older movie I actually have a fondness for.

And yet it works on people, time and time again, they fall for this cheap party trick. It reaps your sentimentality and leaves you a bloodless husk that can't discern the real feeling from the manufactured. When done so lazily, it becomes akin to emotional manipulation.

Nostalgia has become such a common creative tool, it begs the question how novel the concept is anymore and what value it has in our community and culture in general. Nostalgia is a tool that should be used to inspire and iterate upon, not wallow in.

Our fondness for things shouldn't be anchored to the past, lest we give up on the prospects of a future where something new and beautiful appears before us. I see people trapped in their own memories and it saddens me, because it means they've given up on the concept of experience. It's a false comfort to believe the ghosts of the past can bring you happiness in your future.

a lot of the notes are acting like the original tweet is "stupid" for not connecting the dots that it's still antisemitic even though it's harry potter.

y'all. the original tweet is by Alison Rumfitt, an author in England who is a trans woman, and who notably writes horror revolving around contemporary fascism in the UK, often with extremely obvious references to JKR's political influence in said horror novels.

she knows. that's why she constructed the tweet that way. she is intentionally making it impossible for people to not connect the dots, while wording it in such a way to avoid prosecution from libel laws for calling a spade a spade.

give trans women a little credit, please. you are not smarter or better than her for having read her tweet and come to the conclusion she intended to communicate.

The older you get the more you will realize that your friends are people who have made mistakes and bad decisions and even just fucked up and hurt people.

And obviously your boundaries with your friends are completely up to you but you do need to recognize that if you cut off everyone who has done something wrong, you’re going to end up with no friends (and you yourself will have also fucked up in your life, and not lived up to those impossible standards either).

I’ve found it’s much more constructive to learn how to say “hey dude, that was massively fucked up of you,” because most people are really willing to say “yeah, it was, I need to work on it/not do it again/apologize and make things right” ESPECIALLY if they are hearing it from you as their friend.

Adding to my Eustass Kidd thoughts, he has the energy of Vegeta when it comes to women.

To elaborate on that statement, one day he will meet a woman that does not back down or die of a heart attack on first meeting him, and he'll have no coping mechanism for that other than marrying her.

She talks him down like a kindergarten teacher, reprimanding him for his behavior, and he, in his infinite confusion, has nothing to say other than, "Sorry, ma'am."
