What pieces of media are guaranteed to make you cry?

lmao sure, here's a list of things that make me cry even after multiple viewings [and there have indeed been multiple]

train to busan, grave of the fireflies, the impossible, a silent voice, the daycare worker during the apocalypse, that part in ep114 of critical role campaign 1, exu calamity [specifically episode 4], return of the king (either edition), prince of egypt, hunchback of notre dame, the iron giant, rudy, moana, the holiday, wish annnnd there's more but my brain ain't braining sorry orz

idk if it's just cause i'm getting older or if it's because i'm in a place where i no longer have to wear any type of facade

but i get so emotional over things now. not like, irl things or anything, but from fiction. movies, shows, writings, etc etc

like, i was always affected, that's not really changed, just the depth of it hits me way easier, and i no longer fight it

and i love it. i love physically reacting to media, i love my heart racing and temperature rising during tense moments, i love bawling my eyes out during emotional scenes, i love reacting!!

like, i've lived on this earth a short while in the grand scheme of things, but it feels like i hadn't actually been alive until i moved

and now i can cry openly, now i can feel without restraint

and so i am even more a sap than i was previously lmao

hello do you have any fic recs (ideally descendants)?

yikes, nonnie, i'm afraid i'm gonna have to disappoint you. i don't read descendants fic. i tried when the first movie came out, got so annoyed certain at things/trends that were already forming, and never went back.

i mean, i'll read fic gifted to me like in the holiday exchange and will enjoy it, and sometimes i'll read fic others link me to, but that one's rare cause if a linked fic has tags i don't vibe with [ex. any reference to jay being a genie which is just a preference i can't stand, or like the original heroes being dicks (outside of beast/adam which i can forgive for obvi reasons lol) which i take as lazy/unimaginative writing] i won't even bother.

so i am the worst person to ask for descendants fic recs, sorry!

as for other fic recs. i'm not sure i'm good for that either lol idk if the stuff i read vibes with general audiences? unless you like mpreg or omegaverse or kink things whatever? like, i do have fluff stuff bookmarked but that isn't the majority of my collection. also, i tend to like ships that are lesser liked to rare pairs so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I always find it funny when people write bdsm erotica where the dom is really aggressive and demanding and the sub is all sweet and innocent when I feel like more often than not the dynamic is a sub who asks for the most insane, out of pocket, dangerous, borderline illegal, unhinged shit and a dom who's like "hmmm ok yeah maybe we can scale that back a bit"

by far the harshest truth ive ever had to come to terms with is that many people genuinely have absolute dogshit taste and that is, technically, not a crime

Tonight, I went looking for more articles to add to my collection of anti essays, and I found one from Elliott Dunstan called Behind the Curtain: Anti-Shipping is a Bad Faith Position.

He managed to put into words what bothers me about the line, "it's just fandom drama and I'm above it", which many people use to dismiss the anti movement. He does this by positing that the anti movement is an entry point for radical feminism, and for mobilizing people against PornHub, OnlyFans, etc. One quote I particularly liked was:

"Much like how Gamergate and the alt-right used videogames and 4chan to get to young men, TERFs and radfems have happily used Tumblr and Twitter to disguise their talking points in 'low-stakes' affairs like ships. This serves several purposes. One, nobody’s really going to think about it too hard. It’s fandom. It’s not that serious. Two, nobody outside of fandom will take you seriously. If you’re harassed or lose your job because of dumb fandom drama, it’s at least partially your own fault for engaging in 'silly fandom stuff for children' – at least in many people’s eyes. And three, it gives them direct access to a receptive audience; marginalized people in fandom who feel shut out for other reasons."

I felt it was pretty well written and makes some very good points.
