You cannot tell me Crosshair didn’t see Hunter in Mayday. They shared traits such as their leadership and line of thinking. Imagine how crushing it was to Crosshair to see this:

throwing up over these two tracks and their names and how “the good soldier” can be referring to either mayday or crosshair or both of them

absolutely love as well as find this moment in the outpost ( s02e12 ) so wholly heartbreaking because even though crosshair has his helmet on , when commander mayday introduces himself as ‘mayday’ instead of a number & then pauses , awaiting crosshair to introduce himself , crosshair hesitates ...

( literally mayday introduces himself at 5.45 & crosshair doesn't respond until 5.51 ; like six seconds to reply with your name ?? perhaps i am looking too much into it ??? but hear me out !!! )

how long has it been since he has been addressed by his name rather than his number ???

commander cody was likely the last person to do so before he went awol , since it's as well shown in the solitary clone ( s02e03 ; an adeptly named episode if i ever saw one ) that crosshair is still ostracised from the regs. since when he sits down at a table occupied by two regs. during morning meal they get up to leave when he sits down , & later when he's there again to break his fats , he's sitting alone , & none of the imperial officers / stormtroopers ever address clones by anything else but their numbers or by ‘clone’ ( which is said degroitorily at best ) or by a rank.

so when mayday , a reg. but a clone , a brother , is interested in him personally , crosshair is either hesitating due to shock or because of a conditioned response to give his number rather than name but then at the last second realises mayday wants his name. & that mayday is actually conversing with crosshair as equals.

how long has it been since crosshair was able to do that ?? seriously he does it a bit with commander cody , but it different with him since they had differing views & cody was crosshair commanding officer , one he even had in the clone wars which places an odd gap between individuals anyway , thus to be talked with by mayday as simply brothers , two soldiers stuck with a pompous & authoritarian boss who they have to ‘embrace the suck’ of it & complete their assignment together.

it's something that crosshair hasn't been able to have since kallar , prior to order 66 when he was still with clone force 99…
