One of the biggest mysteries or unsolved cases on b99 is why Andy doesn’t just wear his own sunglasses whenever Jake is wearing sunglasses.
#he wears them between scenes when outdoors so it’s not like he doesn’t have ready access to them#plus he’d be able to actually see clearly for a bit#and it’s not like they wouldn’t suit the character of Jake#b99#give jake glasses

Ao3 Prompt by Klaudia2502: if you could maybe write something about amy seeing jake in glasses for the first time after they start dating, cause jake wearing contacts is canon and it’s a shame we never got see andy in glasses in the show. maybe amy finding him super cute or something and maybe teasing him, idk
She should’ve seen the hints, the obvious flags sprinkled throughout.
He had been pretty careful handing back her glasses during that long weekend at the precinct, whereas others usually smudged the lenses or covered them in lint. He’d been doing a lot of squinting and cursing himself, if she thought about it. He handed her exactly the right contact lens solution when she read it from her shopping list without even looking at it. He knew how to handle her glasses whenever she dared to wear them when he came over to her place, folding them and putting them on the side table when she started to fall asleep on his shoulder during movie marathons, cleaning them right before handing them to her in the morning again.
But still, finding the white, unassuming glasses case next to some contact solution and a lens case in one of his bathroom cabinets while she’s looking for more toilet paper comes as a surprise to her.
She hasn’t really been over to his place much yet (hers is just so much nicer), and she hasn’t seen his bathroom routine, really (she half suspects he doesn’t have one, but even he must have a few steps to take before getting into bed or after getting out of it, right?). But the idea that it includes putting on glasses, to switch them for contacts later, makes her giggle with curiosity.
“Jake?” She asks after she returns to his wonky couch from her bathroom trip, dressed in an oversized NYPD sweater she’s stolen from him. “Since when do you wear glasses?”
It’s such an innocuous question, and it still makes him freeze for a second as she nestles into his outstretched arm across the back of the sofa.
“I don’t wear glasses.” He replies, and his voice is flat.
“Are you sure? Because-”
“I wear contacts.”
“That means you wear glasses, babe.”
“It means I wear contacts.”
She drops the topic there, as he switches on the tv, because she can tell he’s getting uneasy. No matter how silly the topic might be, she really doesn’t need their first relationship fight start because she couldn’t let things go.
(She sneaks to the toilet in the middle of the night, though, and carefully opens the glasses case. They’re slightly smaller than hers and far less strong when she peeks through them, horn-rimmed rounded squares. They look pretty cute, she thinks.)
-*-
They are a million times cuter on his face, she discovers not a week later when she knocks on his door unexpectedly, with his favourite takeout (after pizza) in hand as a surprise. He opens with a distinctly confused look, his hair disheveled, his sleep shirt halfway around his torso, his sweats hanging low. He must’ve been deep asleep, and she remembers he called in sick without much of an explanation today. That’s why she’s here, to check in on him, see if he needs anything, maybe a little love to feel better.
What he definitely doesn’t need is her soft squeal when she notices the glasses on his nose that he must’ve thrown on quickly before making it to the door. “Ames?” More confusion travels across his face, followed by realisation and a blush, and before she can say anything else, he’s closed the door in her face.
“Jake?” She whisper-yells through the door, not wanting to disturb his neighbours. “I, uh, sorry…I… wanted to check in on you. I brought Chinese!” She offers, hopeful that the door will open again at the mention of food.
It doesn’t. She hears footsteps instead, and a shouted “Gimme five minutes!”. The door reopens after only three, and Jake behind her is glasses-less, yet still blushing.
“I didn’t know you were coming over.”
“Surprise?” She tries half of a smile and lifts the plastic bag in her hand. “Chinese!”
His eyes search over her face for a minute, and he looks almost worried, but then he steps aside and lets her in. Little victories, she thinks.
“How are you feeling? Better than this morning? Holt said you sounded miserable on the phone.”
“Better, but my head’s still killing me.”
“You know contacts really don’t help with that-”
He takes the takeout out of her hand, drops it on the kitchenette counters, and starts digging for plates.
“Sorry.” She mumbles, but he’s already heading for the couch with cutlery. She doesn’t say anything when she follows with the plates and takeout.
-*-
They’ve finished the takeout (except for some leftovers to snack on during their movie), and they’re also almost halfway through the movie that has turned out less interesting than expected. Amy keeps glancing over at Jake, who in turn keeps squinting, rubbing his eyes, blinking.
“Jake.” She sighs. “Please take out your contacts. You’re only making things worse.”
“I’m fine.”
“You’re not.” She gives him a look before turning off the tv. “We can also just go to bed if you want to.”
He keeps staring on ahead, and she notices how red his eyes are only now.
“I think they’re cute-” She tries to start in another direction, but he interrupts her without much tone.
“Don’t do this.”
“What? Complimenting you?”
“Trying to make me feel better. I know they look weird and wonky. I know they make my nose look even bigger. I know. That’s why I don’t wear them. You don’t have to do that.”
“But I-” She sits up onto his lap and holds his face to look at him, and it’s not just the red-rimmed eyes that make him look sad. “I really think they’re cute, Jake.” She tries to put as much serious tone in her voice as she can, and hopes it conveys enough as she softly rubs across his cheeks. The puppy dog eyes he’s giving her are killing her.
“You do?”
“Yeah, I mean, I only saw them for a hot second, but it was, uh, a hot second.”
He stutters out a laugh, shaking his head before looking at her again, and the sad puppy eyes are gone, thank god.
“You’re serious.” He says and doesn’t seem like he believes it, until she bites her bottom lip and nods with a grin.
“Will you put them on for me, babe? So you’ll feel better, and you can make me feel better?” Her flirty voice still needs some work, but it definitely does what it’s supposed to when it comes to Jake. He sighs as he carefully lifts her out of his lap, gets up and trods to the bathroom.
“The things I do for you, Santiago.”
-*-
They do look insanely cute on him, she thinks a third time when he comes back and plonks onto the couch.
“Happy?” He asks, almost resignated, and waves a dismissive hand towards his face.
“Lemme see.” She’s back on his lap then, grabbing his chin in one hand and twisting his head left and right, up and down, humming deep and inspecting him from every angle. He’s laughing again, though, which is definitely a win.
“Yep.” She concludes with a soft little kiss when his face is straight to hers again. “Very happy.”
“You’re weird, Santiago.” He levels her with a look when she finally lets go of him, tilts his head down and stares at her over the top rim of his glasses that have scooched a bit lower on his nose during the whole moving around.
“Oooh, mama.” She breathes out at that particular look, and he squeezes his tired eyes closed while laughing again, the glasses getting pushed back up by his smiling cheeks, and he’s not allowed to get any cuter.
“Naughty.” He pinches her side and gives her that look again, albeit a fake one this time, but it still works.
“It’s not my fault my boyfriend’s hot when he’s stern and mature like some… some… librarian.” She can’t find a better comparison, and Jake laughs so loudly he drops his head back enough that she can barely see the glasses anymore.
“I bet you take real good care of them too.” She purrs while her fingertip travels down his exposed throat before he raises his head again.
“Oh yeah.” He hums and pulls her a bit closer. “Got the cleaning wipes and glass-cloth and everything.”
She bites her lip again and nods, and he tries so hard not to laugh again as he continues.
“And I take them in to be adjusted regularly, too. Got a replacement pair in my bedside drawer.”
Jake can’t help it - he does laugh just a little when she kisses him with such fervor one could think he just said the most seductive thing in the world.
“This the part where I get to make you feel better?” He whispers against her lips as he lifts her and himself off of the couch, and her legs wrap around his waist almost on instinct.
“Mhm.” She nods after another kiss as he walks her the few steps to his bed. “Keep the glasses on, tiger.”

What are our chances of getting any sort of follow-up to this in season 8? Seems slim but since it’s canon, I feel we need to see Jake wearing his glasses. It just makes sense since Andy needs glasses IRL.

they could keep andy's beard this season i mean jake is a dad now random thought but i'm very bored rn lol
mmmm whatever u do don't imagine jake w his unshaven new Dad scruff cradling his newborn bebe while trying to soothe him.......jake pressing scratchy sleepy kisses against amy's torso where her tank top's riding up as she sits up in bed feeding mac at 4am....jake half-asleep w his beard and glasses bc he cba with putting contacts in trying to warm up mac's bottle one-handed while bouncing mac on his hip......jake asking amy if she thinks he should shave before his paternity leave ends and her & her new mommy hormones being like Absolutely Not - it's so rare that he lets his beard grow out and she's kinda obsessed....cue an impromptu but steamy make out session before the sound of mac wailing in the next door room tears them apart 😩

On the shelf, under the files, near the orange post-its and keyboard.
I am yet to find Stephanie’s glasses in a scene (other than when she actually wore them).

imagine jake laying on the couch with his plaid shirt fully unbuttoned and his newborn son asleep on his chest, his glasses slightly askew on his face and his hair haphazard. “skin to skin contact, ames,” jake explains, eyes half-mast. “all the parenting books i read say it’s important, so i’m doing it.” he smiles. “i’m being a good dad.”

More evidence that Andy is blinder than he lets on: have you noticed how much he squints in palm springs and b99? Classic 'cant see without my glasses' move
So I haven’t seen Palm Springs yet, but I did notice in the trailer he was hella squinty.
He does squint a bit in b99, especially when he’s outside, and I don’t understand why he doesn’t just wear his own prescription sunnies to film those scenes. They would pass as just regular sunglasses. There’s no reason for him to wear prop ones. Why doesn’t he want to be able to see clearly????

Where are his glasses at?
Jake canonically wears contacts and we have seen a number of scenes where he logically would (or should) be wearing glasses BUT HE HASN’T. Here’s the those times (from Casecation onwards) where we have been deprived of bespectacled Jake.
This is a flashback so technically pre-casecation but he did also get his contacts switched sometime before the episode so it’s going to be included. Wouldn’t Jake have already taken his contacts out before brushing his teeth (or if this is morning, have brushed his teeth prior to putting in contacts)?
I’m pretty sure they’d both be wearing glasses when they get into bed. Jake definitely would, since he’s playing on his phone.
He’s in his pyjamas so has obviously already showered, again trying to defeat Wario, he would have taken his contacts out and would probably need his glasses to either see his phone (if he’s farsighted) or to see the pregnancy test result (if he’s nearsighted).
This one isn’t so much that he would be wearing glasses but it would have been a great time to see the three Peralta men bearded and bespectacled.
It’s evening, he’s on the couch watching TV, surely he (and Amy) would have switched to glasses by this point in their day.
And this must have happened in the wee hours of the morning. We know from 48hrs that Amy carries her glasses on her, so she surely would have switched to glasses by now. We don’t know anything about what Jake does with his glasses but he’s probably had his contacts in way too long and would have switched to glasses. Plus, just on principle, we deserved to see bespectacled domestic Peraltiago holding their newborn baby.
