A and B are enemies. A finds B collapsed from a fever or a wound they got hours they've had for hours or even days. "I know you hate me, but I'd rather you be alive to hate me. you should have told me sooner."

a character who didn't call a friend for help because their phone is charging in their bedroom and by the time they realized they need help, they were too sick or weak to go get it. the friend comes to the rescue and uses their spare key when they miss something important (work, a party, a team assembly, etc without calling) and it's unlike them. friend comes in and is and hurt by the fact that character didn't call them, but the anger dissipates when they realize that it was something so simple.

Which archetype do you identify with the most: the whumpee, the whumper, or the caregiver?

whumpee usually, but it depends on the situation and how i'm feelin! def not the whumper ever though, i am soft and delicate.

How and when did you discover the whump community?

i've been here since 2018!! i discovered it through fandom.

Do you have any whump media recommendations (whump blogs, books, movies, etc.)?

i mostly read and write fic, so i'm gonna self-promo my own fic blog @taylor-tut-ocs! i highly recommend The Magus Archives, which is a podcast. plenty of whump. star trek 2009 is also one of my favorites. :)

a whump scenario from my WIP:

Character A has betrayed the team by going back to an ex lover, who's an emotionally neglectful criminal who was never a good partner in the first place. the team warns them not to get involved, but they don't listen. they can't. this was their greatest love, the one person they can't say no to. in a moment of weakness, they go back to the ex, thus making ememies of the team.

then, they and their ex get in a very tight spot. Character A is hurt very, very badly. And what does their ex do? They take A's phone and call the team leader.

"why did you call me?"

"because you're the one person who would pick up."

then, their ex leaves them to bleed out. leaves them for dead. A knows that they're going to die here because team leader will never come.

team leader wrestles for a long moment with the idea of helping A. However, they eventually cave and decide that while they might hate A, they don't want them to die. so they go.

i love when the character starts doing something feeling fine and the symptoms hit them halfway through. like yeah they started the mission feeling okay, but within a few hours they're shivering and have a pounding headache. They came to work okay but a migraine hit right after lunch. like yes the idea of pushing through illness is good, but i love a good "I was fine this morning"

a character who doesn't know they're about to pass out becaue they've never done it before. rather than saying "I feel faint" or something, they say "I feel a little weird." they only sit because another character points out that they look pale and tells them to sit or lie down.

what about being stuck in a car while sick? the gang is on their way to a job in a blizzard and get stuck, and they're struggling to take care of the sick character. a flat tire in a cell phone dead zone that requires them to walk in the heat, forcing the sick character to either walk with them or wait in a hot car. i think there's a lot here :)

pavement scrapes!! what's worse than falling/crashing/fainting onto the ground? getting booboos all over from the concrete :)

love a fictional character who will scowl and tell people “I’m not sick” “I’m not hungry” “I didn’t get injured”

meanwhile he has an extremely high fever, he ate some soup last week, and the blood is soaking through his jacket

huge huge huge fan of "it sounds worse than it is" for sickfic and "it looks worse than it is" for injury whump. acknowledging that they're sick or hurt in a very obvious way, but failing to admit just how bad it is.

"That cough sounds terrible." "It sounds worse than it is." before ending up in the hospital with pneumonia.

"That wound is serious." "Looks worse than it is." is slowly bleeding out.

i like a symptom that specifically makes an obligation impossible. a migraine before a movie night. a sore throat and hoarse voice before a speech. a leg wound before having to flee on foot. a concussion before having to come up with a big plan. idk is this anything

broken glass wounds. the original hurt of the glass going in and then the secondary hurt of pulling it out.

that part in It Part II where that lil creature thing attacks Richie and Eddie just stands there, terrified. Bill pulls it off him at the last minute and demands to know why Eddie just stood there. "he could have died!"

and Eddie just apologizes and says he was scared. that scene is 🔥🔥🔥
