if you do an open house, I have two requests!! 1. Please let jay wear either a red hood or Batman hat
2. the kid that was mean to Jay takes one look at his older siblings and is like “NOPE”
I do love Jason and his hero merch! And, yeah, no way is Gavin standing up to the Wayne family at all.

As soon as u replied to my comment I started refreshing your profile bc I KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS
lol sorry to disappoint, but I don't have an update today! I started drafting the next fic, but it's looking like at least two chapters, so I need to give myself a little more time to get things ready before I post. But stay tuned for sure!

I was thinking of my own childhood and flipping through family albums when I remembered “open nights” during elementary school. It would be after school hours, usually every 9 weeks, when parents/family would be invited to see what their children work on. Like their art work, projects, models, etc. There would be planned activities and stations set up all around the school for kids to engage in. What I am saying is, is there a possibility of Bruce and his entire gaggle of children to show up and support Jason’s works? I know he would be self conscious or maybe a bit embarrassed but ultimately his admiration for his siblings would win out and Cheryl could see how much the entire family absolutely loves little Jaybin. Or the front school secretary seeing a different person pick up Jason from school in the middle of the day for a variety of reasons. i just love Jaybin so much oh my lord he’s to itty bitty
An open house would be a lot of fun! Jason would have a total avalanche of support with people coming to see his popsicle stick art or whatever, which would be totally baffling for Jason but also something that he would love.

What if J is out w Cass and someone is racist to her? J feels helpless bc like he cannot help his fam
Aw, yeah, that would be so tough for Jason! Because not being able to protect/support other members of his family is a really hard thing for him to be okay with.

Idk if this would ever happen but maybe the BatFam forgets about Jason? Like he wakes up and he’s home alone? Or he’s the last one to be picked up from school?
That's a relatively common childhood experience, and I think poor Jay would have such a hard time if that happened because it's taken him a long time just to feel comfortable with being dependent on others. And of course Bruce would never forgive himself if he did that, which is also fun to think about 🤪

Re: camping idea. Just imagine little Jason having to go potty in the middle of night and debating which sibling to wake up to help him.
Aw, poor kiddo Jay, there's no end to the embarrassing situations he can find himself in!

Love your new update. I want more strangers interacting w Precocious Jason haha
Aw, thanks! I love outsider POV stories in general, and it's so fun to have people interacting with Jason like he's a typical kid.

yeah, something like oh I’m not going over to the harpers to hang out with Roy I’m going over for a play date with lian and all that I saw of Roy was him making snacks and like … damn. Also idk how old you’re making lian! She stayed young for a while and then her post 52 appearances were after a time travel shenanigan so you can do whatever you want
Yes, that would totally be a weird and hard realization for Jason! I've put Lian at two months older than Jason's age in this AU. There's a little scene and mention of her in Young at Heart. Her age and complete backstory was one of those canon things that was too complicated for what my series is focusing on, so I decided to make it something that made it as awkward for Jason as possible, lol.

“I’m glad the delivery worked out well,” Matthew said as they walked across the polished wood floor. There was art everywhere: oil paintings on walls, antique vases, wood carvings. He wasn’t given any time to look at it, but maybe he could when the session was done? If he figured out how to ask? “That means I can start working out a pose with the family right away and—”
A polite hum interrupted him. “I’m sorry to say, sir, that the family is not quite ready yet, although I have been assured that they will be very shortly. Would you care for a cup of tea while they finish preparing?”
Matthew stopped walking for a second. The family wasn’t ready? That wasn’t the plan. Hadn’t Matthew explained the importance of getting the lighting right? The Wayne family might be rich, but they couldn’t control the sun.

do you think little Jason gets excited about Santa occasionally bc he forgets he isn’t real?
Okay, I actually have thought about this a lot because it's that perfect combination of angst for Jason and awkwardness for everyone else when someone has to tell him that Santa isn't actually real.
BUT: Santa is canon in DC! Damian even gets to go on a ride-along with him at one point! (see below)
Although now that I'm thinking about it, maybe the story is that Jason starts talking about Santa, then one of the kids at school tells him Santa isn't real. He gets upset with his family because he thinks they're humouring him, but then he learns that Santa is actually real after all.
Or maybe the Batman-Santa Claus team-up doesn't make sense to include in my loose version of canon that I'm playing with.
Hmmm...

Just since there’s been some discussion about Jason and Lian, I’d like to say that personally I like their relationship being platonic. In fact, I think it could be really interesting to see Jason learning to reconcile being friends with both Lian AND Roy at the same time. I feel like it’d be a struggle for him to come to terms with, but once he does he and Lian could have a lot of fun terrorizing poor Roy together >:)
That's mostly how I feel, too. Jason's seven in my AU at this point, and so I'd rather focus on platonic relationships with him. Of course, I'm always happy to engage with people who are thinking about his potential romantic future! It's just that I'm not ready to write them at this point.
I like what you said about Jason learning to be friends with Roy and Lian. I think the idea of being straight up friends with Lian would scare Jason a little because he wouldn't want to lose his place as Roy's friend. It'd definitely be a lot for him (and the others) to work through.

It could be over a month? Like 5 times Jason hated the beach and one time he loved it?
Aw, that would be cute! Or maybe just a ton of different summer activities, because it'd also be really fun to write a camping story.

Hiii I told the jellyfish story. I was thinking something similar could happen to J
Oh, yes, I did get that from your first message! And it's a good idea. Now I just have some tricky decisions because how much mild whump for you think is reasonable for Jason to have in one summer? So far I've got heat stroke, a broken bone, and now a friction burn/jellyfish sting. Poor kid is going to be going through it!

Re J and L: if it worked for Renesmee and Jacob ;p hahaha
The Renesmee/Jacob stuff might be exactly why I'm hesitant to pair up little Jay and Lian haha

Could J and Lian date in the future?
Okay, so a couple people have mentioned this in the comments, too! In some ways, it would work out. Jay and Lian are around the same age now, and they both grew up around comic book events. I wonder if it's not entirely fair to Lian, though, for her to date her dad's friend.
