“When medicine became a business we lost our moral compass”
The episode on CNN Escape Fire really exposes the healthcare system for what is really happening. Today we spend 2.7 trillion dollars on healthcare, but the U.S. does not even rank in the top 20, but at number 50 in health care. We are the only country that advertises for prescription drugs. What has the healthcare become? We are not treating the patients, but rather disease; a disease that we are just managing and not trying to fix. It is a revolving door.
The diseases that we have in the United States are all preventable. 20 % of patients in the emergency department come in on a daily basis for chronic conditions. For most of these conditions they are all related to lifestyle. What is wrong with society? The foods we eat today are processed and not organic and made all of the unhealthy food the cheapest. 1 trillion$ will be spent towards health problems related to obesity if the trend continues until 2020.
My fear is being swallowed into the corrupt healthcare system. I want to make a difference in healthcare and treat the underlying problem of it all. My heart aches for those who are obese and I want to make a difference in those who can make difference in there life by making different life choices.
Everyone needs to see this especially those who are going into the healthcare field.

Year Two of Nursing School;
The best day of nursing was getting that letter saying that you were accepted into the nursing program. It is competitive and every one wants to get in. Now that day is far gone so you lay down that competitiveness mode and go into survivor mode. Nursing school would not be survivable without God, aspiring Professors, and most of all the peers you surround yourself with.
People will come into your life and leave, but there is something about being in cohort. They take every difficult step along side you and understand EXACTLY what you are going through. A bound that no one can take away. We will all go our separate ways, but will always have those three years of dedication, blood, sweat, and tears...okay maybe not blood, but definitely sleep deprivation and mental breakdowns.

I have too many favorite memories and have been blessed with amazing clinical instructors. My favorite clinical year so far has been my rotation in OB. (No, I do not want to be an OB nurse!) My girls in my clinical group went through so many obstacles and had to jump through hoops with the hospital. We survived by the glory of God and laughter.
It is only year two, but my God we have come so far. Spring 2014.

Josie Pauro;
Last weekend we welcomed a new member into our family. She is a Shepard mix, they say. She is 5 months. We adopted her and cannot be more pleased with her. She is calm and loving (perfect for our two cats). Link is not really a fan of hers, but Zelda is so curious.
She has long lanky legs, golden coat, and eyes that will melt your heart. She will lick your face off. She is learning "sit", "come", and slowly getting used to the leash. She has been on three car rides with us and jumped out of the car all by herself last night (huge accomplishment!) She is doing well with the potty-training (no accidents in the house, yet!) She received her first bath yesterday and was not really a fan. She slept in the bed for the first time last night. (she's been sleeping in her crate). She does not quite get fetch but will soon! She has a lot to learn as so do we! We have never trained a puppy!
One day at a time...

1. Control. Do you ever wait in the lunch line only to find when you get to the front that you don’t like what they’re serving? So you reach for pizza again. A healthy packed lunch lets you avoid the lunch line (and any temptations). Bringing your own lunch also lets you control exactly what goes into the food you eat.
2. Variety. It doesn’t hurt to cave in and enjoy the occasional serving of pizza and hot dogs. But if you’re eating these foods all the time, your body probably feels ready for a change. A packed lunch a couple of times a week means you can enjoy some favorites that you might not find at every school — like a piping hot thermos of your mom’s chicken soup; hummus and pita bread; or some crisp, farm-stand apples.
3. Energy. If you have a big game or activity after school, plan a lunch and snacks that combine lean proteins with carbohydrates to give you lasting energy and keep you going through the late afternoon. Some ideas: your own “trail” mix of dried fruit and nuts or sunflower seeds, whole-grain pretzels and low-fat cheese, or a bagful of baby carrots and yogurt dip.
4. Money. Packing your lunch will save you moneyno doubt about it. And I’m talking hundreds of dollars in cold hard cash! Think about it. How much do you spend when you go out to eat? $5 per meal? $10? $15? Multiply that times 20 (5 days per week times four weeks per month). Yikes! A packed lunch, such as a turkey sandwich, baked chips, a piece of fruit and some carrot sticks will run you about three bucks. You’ll be saving money you could spend on something else fun. Reward yourself! How about a shopping trip? New electronic? Running shoes? Or some cool lunch-packing supplies?!
5. Health. Whether you grab fast food or sit down at a fancy restaurant, you are probably consuming more fat and calories than you need. Instead, you can pack your lunch and know exactly what you are eating. Pack whole fresh foods that are high in nutrients and health benefits.
So what are you waiting for? Bring your own lunch!

Bullying at its finest (or not, but you get the picture).
Growing up, I was never bullied. I've never been the bully.
From an early age we begin to interact with others. Being bullied as a child has a negative effect on a persons self-esteem and self-image. Just as bullying can carry on into adult-hood. Not pushing, shoving, name-calling type of bullying... when entering a new practice, bullying can have a negative effect in the same way. A nurse that is new in their nursing career may be treated unfairly. Gossiping and having cliques can effect a work place environment as well. Treat people that way you want to be treated and everyone is "new" at some point. So let's keep it polite and respectful folks!

How to not pull your hair out // [Nursingstudentproblems]
Stress is unavoidable.
Unpredictable.
& Exhausting.
Stress helps get things done and that is about the only positive aspect of stress.
Over the last 3 years as a pre-nursing student to a nursing student there has been many times where I just wanted to pull my hair out.
I have found a solution that works for me: Running. [insert favorite exercise]. Exercise releases endorphin's, clears my mind, and gets be energized for what is to come. On many occasions I am sure my lovely boyfriend wanted to pull his hair out to [caused by me], but he has learned to love exercising with me and knows it helps me. He encourages me and he is has become a great outlet.
I like to document where I run and it keeps me motivated.
