I keep thinking back on Louis' laugh at the beginning of the whole show, "so how long have you been dead?" It's similar to that smile in s2ep5 when Daniel asks him "so we didn't…?"(the forming of a beam like he can't help it, he even seems a little bashful, and the throaty laughter oh my god)
I always thought there was more to that laugh than "oooook let's get started" because there was a layer of genuineness and happiness that didn't fit Dubai Louis we've seen in previuos episodes when he seemed so hollow and dead inside, yes he was always trying to perform "lively", but that acting was quite inconsistent and bad, not like this laugh.
Now we have the s2ep5 smile, I think…maybe this rare kind of genuine and happy reaction happens when he is hit by the realization that Daniel is…Daniel, he's like: oh now you're old and grumpy, but I see you're still that boy who is interesting with a sharp tongue, always so curious, thinking about weird and unexpected things and just wouldn't shut up.
Louis did't have the whole memory of his time with young Daniel, and obviously his intention for this interview was not to have some kind of reunion with him. But with a messed up brain, Louis secretly still has this fondness and admiration towards Daniel, he still remembers him as someone special(I think it's also part of the things he saw in Daniel to deem him a bright young reporter who could have a future in journalism). Like what is time to a vampire? they can live a long life but things for them fall apart, especially for Louis, while Daniel has gotten old and failed a lot miserably in his mortal life but something good in him hasn't changed. No matter how bumpy and difficult the interview seems, Louis enjoys time with Daniel and wants to talk to him just like the good old days he for a long time didn't know wasn't the whole truth.
And the thing that strikes me the most? He looks so radiant and beautiful when he could be genuine like himself still exists, like a real being. (oh and how his hair is slightly different between the two seasons😊)

every time I see a discussion about gender and family dynamics of iwtv characters I laugh, because Lestat is such an East Asian husband and father, so typical to a point that it's both so funny and not even funny:
the power Lestat has over the other members of the family, his constant need for affection and attention and refusal to be denied, the way he thinks he owns Louis and how he takes it for granted, the fact that he is blood related to Claudia but he doesn't really feel any responsibility on his shoulder to raise the kid(and the fact that automatically goes to Louis)——trying to get along with her at the beginning yes but actually raising her? no. the fact that Louis is the one who brought the kid into their family yet he has to ask for Lestat's permission to really make a "daughter" and Lestat's contribution is deemed more important in making this "child". the fact when the child is gone Lestat just "gets over" it while Louis is haunted by her missing for years, the reason Lestat gives for cheating("you are too indifferent while I have needs") and the fact that he just keeps on cheating and never really cuts it, the way he traps Louis and Claudia in his home...and of course the DV part and the getting back together part. everthing screams an East Asian husband and father.
just EVERYTHING and so TYPICAL that I don't even need to explain those listed above or reference anything, when you know you know.
but Claudia is not an East Asian daughter, and Louis is a typical "housewife" everywhere, that's a whole new level of DISFUNCTION.(when most of the time "a typical xxx family" is already disfunctional in its own way.)
and in Lestat's defense, albeit the uncanny resemblance and so many discussions to compare them to families, they are indeed not a human family( neither are their roles and Lestat has every right to not consider Claudia his "daughter"), so tragedy ensures when they try really hard to build one——the "try really hard" part's mainly on Louis, but Lestat indeed promised him a “home” at the beginning(while they have very different definition of home) and he's the one who campared Claudia to a daughter at first so he's not totally innocent either, but it’s Louis wants to do everthing the human way desperately..that’s just so tragic.

It’s not that Louis doesn’t have a tiny waist, its that his body type is more toned and slender, whereas an Lestats a twunk with a block jaw juxtaposed with this tiny waist so its more noticeable
That'a a fair point, anon. I'm not actually blaming anything it's just a reminder in case you missed nice things😉And the outfits are working too, Lestat's costumes are always fit or waist-snatching yet louis' are either loose with a lower waistline(modern day) or with a silhouette(1910s) to make him look bigger than he actually is, which fit their characters respectively.

Seeing people talking about how IWtV famdom treat black characters and white characters differntly that in those fanworks black characters are always more violent and dominant or vicious and white ones are always softer and submissive especially with Louis and Lestat. Idk, it's definitely true(like a lot of other fandoms with interracial couples), but maybe because I'm a cruel person and I' m neither white nor black that I don't have any sympathy towards either race, I don't feel anything other than "that’s so funny" for the whole "Lestat is THE MOTHER and THE BOTTOM of the show you can't convince me otherwise" arguement because I just can't treat this stupidity seriously, it's even funnier to me especially when IWtV is a show that clearly shows:
·Louis got dominated in his whole life by a lot of things especially his relationship with Lestat, to the extent that he got trapped like being in a small box. Hell, it’s even kinda the theme of season 1. ·Louis acted "masculine" yes because that was his disguise to present as a strong bussiness man to survive in that envirement, and he was never comfortable about this armour. When his social identity got peeled out he became that soft and even meek "housewife" in the family. I can't say only that is the true Louis because diguise is a part of yourself too, but the "masculine" Louis is definitely not the whole picture of him either. And based on the show it's safe to say he's soft inside I think. ·The show actually doesn't contain a lot of explicit gay sex scenes, the most explicit one is the "anywhere sounds like nowhere"scene from EP6, a lot of people even have argued it was not a sex scene either, I mean...come on it's a very TYPICAL TV sex scene, what, you expect actual genital images in every show? (there was even a bed——i found that quite funny too.) And in that scene, Lestat tops and he's dominant like he always is.
Don't get me wrong, I know that fanworks are not real, it's free and doesn't have to follow canon, and the whole "the dominant one has to be the top, the submissive one has to be the bottom" thing is quite stupid to begin with, I don't even care if you're a racist or not we are always "discriminating" something because admit it human beings are stupid. I'm talking about those comments like "let me explain how Lestat is canonilly the MOTHER and he should be the BOTTOM" and people anylizing the show content based on this kind of theory. No one tried to "convince you" honey, you can ship a ship however you like, you can treat every white man your soft babygirl and other people around him his dom and should be his protector just don't ignore the show content and try to creat a whole different new one WHEN STATING YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT THE SHOW, come on we're not blind.
