Two Tribes (We got the bomb, yeah!) - FGTH Cove
My Dance/EDM cover of the classic Frankie Goes to Hollywood song, Two Tribes. Presenting a nihilistic, gleeful lyric expressing enthusiasm for nuclear war, it juxtaposes a relentless pounding bass line and synth riffs inspired by American funk and R&B pop with influences of Russian classical music. This whole album was extremely influential to me when I was experimenting with 8/16bit computer sound synthesis. Musically, I learnt from songs on this album about not needing snares on every 2nd downbeat. Yes, it's OK to do that even in a pop song! I first listened to this album as a boy who grew-up in a place and time where being known a 'other than heterosexual', could've resulted in verbal or physical punishment; and at a minimum, feeling unconnected & different. Frankie Goes to Hollywood at least gave me some connection. It seemed appropriate to make a parody of the the futility of war and how we as pawns become the victims of ravishment.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Lyrics When two tribes go to war A point is all that you can score (Score them all, score them all) When two tribes go to war A point is all that you can score (Working for the black gas) Cowboy number one A born-again poor man's son (Poor man's son) On the air America I modeled shirts by Van Heusen (Working for the black gas) Yeah You know When two tribes go to war A point is all you can score (Storm them all, storm them all) When two tribes go to war A point is all you can score Working for the black gas Switch off your shield Switch off and feel I'm working on loving, yeah Giving you back the good times Ship it out, out Working for the black gas A point is all you can score When two tribes go to war When two tribes go to war A point is all you can score We got two tribes We got the bomb We got the bomb, yeah Yeah Sock it to me biscuits, now Are we living in a land Where sex and horror are the new Gods? Yeah When two tribes go to war A point is all you can score

My Universe [ 8Bit Pop Chiptune ] - Tribute to Coldplay & BTS - Twin C64 SIDs and DAW (6 Channels) Made with the sounds of the Commodore 64 SID Chip (Dual SID Chips) What a struggle it was compressing this song into six sound channels. I had to way more staccato alternating instruments than I cared to... haha Anyhow, nice song. It wouldn't be right if I didn't cover at least one Coldplay song per year. Dancing on the Ceiling [ Bitpop / Chiptune ] - Tribute to Lionel Richie - C64 Driver (6 Channels) Another favourite song that used to get played to death in my local arcade. It was a hard choice which one of Richie's songs I wanted to do but this one I can't seem to get out of my head. Crocodile Rock [ Bitpop Chiptune ] - Tribute to Elton John
https://youtu.be/Fa5bMojTlRg Made with the sounds of the Commodore 64 SID Chip (Dual SID Chips) The song was inspired by John's discovery of leading Australian band Daddy Cool and their hit single "Eagle Rock", which was the most successful Australian single of the early 1970s. Elton John heard the song and the group on his 1972 Australian tour and was greatly impressed by it. A photo included in the album packaging features John's lyricist, Bernie Taupin, wearing a "Daddy Who?" promotional badge. Made with ♥ Gavin

Made with the sounds of the Commodore 64 SID Chip (Dual SID Chips) This isn't The Police's BIGGEST hit but its probably their 2nd biggest and the one I felt had a lot more flourishes that I could play off. Made with ♥ Gavin

Orinoco Flow [ Bitpop Chiptune ] - Tribute to Enya
Made with the sounds of the Commodore 64 SID Chip (Dual SID Chips) Enya is one of those maligned artists that polarises opinion. Either you like or hate her music - there's very little middle ground. I have no qualms saying that I like her celtic stylings. More people must like her stuff than they are prepared to admit considering this song went to #1 in quite a few countries. Made with ♥ Gavin

Who's Johnny? (Short Circuit) [ Bitpop Chiptune ] - Tribute to El DeBarge & Martin Galway from Gavin Graham on Vimeo.
Made with C64 Driver/Samples & DAW (6 Channels)
Why am I doing this? Still? I think most fundamentally, that I enjoy stripping sounds back to their most fundamental elements that a home computer can generate and that is 'single cycle waveforms'. Yes.
It might be more voices than what the C64 was capable of but its still the same fundamentals.
Again, Martin Galway was such a source of inspiration on this one. His cover of this El DeBarge song was amazing.

Star Wars Cantina Band [ Bitpop Chiptune ] - Tribute to John Williams - Made with C64 Driver/Samples & DAW (6 Channels)
My cover of the Star Wars Cantina Band song has been influenced with a combination of the styles of Rob Hubbard, Fred Gray and Ben Daglish. They're Some of my favourite Commodore 64 Maestro's.
It's all the usual people you think of when asked which C64 musicians are your favourite. Add Martin Galway and David Whittaker to the list, also.
This time I'm using multiple sound channels for layered trills and arpeggios, filters and some quirky wavetable modulations to try to make an alien sounding set of Cantina Band instruments.

Flying Circus [ Bitpop Chiptune ] - Tribute to John Philip Sousa from Gavin Graham on Vimeo.
Monty Python's Flying Circus [ Bitpop Chiptune ] - Tribute to John Philip Sousa - Made with my C64 Music Driver & DAW (6 Channels)
The Liberty Bell, at the time a new composition as yet untitled, was written for Sousa's unfinished operetta The Devil's Deputy before financing for the show fell through. The march is often associated with the British TV comedy program Monty Python's Flying Circus (1969–74), which used the version performed by the Band of the Grenadier Guards as a signature tune.[9] The use of the melody by the British comedy troupe Monty Python is ironic; the bouncy melody of the march may have appealed to the troupe. Terry Gilliam, the only American member of the troupe, advocated using the theme. He has said the piece was chosen because the troupe thought it would not be associated with the program's content, and that the first bell strike and subsequent melody would give the impression of getting "straight down to business."

I Cant Stand the Rain [ Bitpop Chiptune ] - Tribute to Tina Turner - Made with C64 Driver/Samples & DAW (6 Channels)
Is it a 70s or an 80s tune? My first contact with it was from Tina Turner's Private Dancer album in the early 80s but my favourite rendition is the '78 version by Eruption. It's a nice soul/funk ditty. The A# pops make it for me. Made with ♥ Gavin

The Last V8 [ Bitpop Chiptune ] - Tribute to Rob Hubbard - Made with C64 Driver/Samples
This is one of the very first C64 tunes that made me aware of two things. The first being that you can modulate the pulse duty cycle and trill the pitch one octave higher and second, you can switch sounds in at any time. In fact, you should modify your compositions to make gaps where you do switch in other sounds to make the piece fuller that it otherwise would be. It all seems obvious now but to a 14yo, it was a revelation. For these reasons, I have to tribute this tune and its amazing composer and programmer. Rob, you inspired us all. Made with ♥ Gavin
