5 Learning goals for 2021: Multilingualism, self love and more
Tumblr media
Personally I’ve always felt it has been easier to work towards and achieve my goals when I write them down in order to hold myself accountable. How many of you have set a goal only to let it fall flat? I know I have way too many times but 2021 is different and at the beginning of this year I set multiple learning goals for myself which I have every intention of achieving. I’ve already started to work towards them so thought why not share them - maybe this will push me further, inspire one of you or simply be something to look back on it with a smile on my face knowing I achieved what I set out to do.
So here are five of my learning goals:
Enhance my language proficiencies: I have always had a big love for languages that has only intensified over the last few years. It started when I was a child and my dad used to teach me 1-2 words in Spanish. As I grew older I saw languages as being the opportunity for more than just communication, a chance to learn about culture, history and so much more. At the moment I’m attempting to learn four languages at the same time - sounds crazy right?! For me, I find that I thrive with variation so it’s nice to change it up when I’m studying each of them which helps me to stay interested. My goal for the end of the year is to reach the following levels in each language;
French: From lower beginner level to lower intermediate
Arabic: From beginner to Lower elementary
Farsi: From elementary to intermediate
Spanish: From intermediate to advanced
Achieve a first in all of my second-year modules: Last year I worked hard and managed to get a first class grade in all of my modules with an average mark of 70-80 on assignments. This year is much more challenging but I still want to maintain that first class grade and even potentially shift that mark to an average of 75-85 (It’s a push but it’s possible :D). It’s a goal that I am slightly more nervous about it but it’s all the more rewarding!
Improving my time management and organisational skills: For a very very very long time I struggled with the all too familiar practice of procrastination. So many times I planned out my day only to sit there in bed and watch youtube videos or Netflix documentaries. It was very demotivating as you can imagine but only I could change it. In recent months I have began to utilise one big calendar to cover all my commitments and timings in order to effectively manage my time. Whilst it has been the stepping stone in my process to managing my time better there is still more to be done. I hope that by the end of this year I would have managed to refine my organisational skills and use it to better improve my time management so that I can achieve a great level of productivity each day.
Reaching a level of greater emotional intelligence: This one might stick out a bit from the others but it is probably one of the most important goals that I want to achieve in 2021. I believe that in identifying our areas for development and improvement we can gradually elevate them to our strengths. For many years I struggled with the idea of emotional intelligence and would allow my emotions to overpower me which would be disastrous if I was in the middle of a task. I’ve made a lot of progress in recent months and particularly over the tribulations of last year which has allowed to learn from my mistakes but I am still on this journey.
Learning to practice self-love: Each goal is important to me but the goal of learning how to practice self-love is arguably the most important to me. Learning how to love yourself and see the beauty inside rather than the flaws is something I am sure most people have suffered with. I want to learn to focus on doing the things that make me happy rather than the things that make others happy, embracing as well as loving who I am rather than allowing others to change/decide that for me and lastly accepting my flaws instead of pushing them away so that I may continue to support my growth process.
I hope you enjoyed reading these and I would love to hear what your learning goals are for 2021 so that we can all be inspired by what we are working towards!
