I wanted to talk about something that I’ve seen @mywitchyblog made an essay (really recommend reading it) on sometime ago, and that is the common myth that “If you experience trauma in your DR, you will come back traumatized.”

This is simply not true.

Trauma isn’t just about experiencing something bad, it’s about how your brain and nervous system store and process that experience. Trauma literally rewires part of your brain, like the amygdala and prefrontal cortex, through stress hormones and neural changes, within the physical body.

When you shift, you’re not taking your brain with you. You’re shifting your conscious awareness, not your neurons. When you return, you’re back in your own body, with your own brain, which hasn’t actually undergone that trauma processing.

It’s like remembering a very vivid dream where something bad happened. You might feel weird or uncomfortable remembering it for a while, but your brain knows the difference.

So, you don’t need to fear coming back traumatized from your DR. Your CR brain is safe.

dps fans PLEASE watch this movie!! it has 3 names (maybe more? strike!, all i wanna do, the hairy bird) and the vibe is incredible. its so funny and lighthearted. takes place at a girls boarding school in the 60s that is threatening to merge with the boys school, and the characters’ battling between their instincts to learn and follow their aspirations and their instincts to be pretty and perform for the boys. its so goodddd — if you like dps, niche films, female driven and directed movies, or quirky 90s comedies you might like it!!! and it has kirsten dunst who. i feel like everyone loves

exactlyyy 😭 they really saw charlie and thought “manchild” like??? he’s loud and dramatic but he’s also smart, loyal, brave, and genuinely deep as a character, pls don’t reduce him to a joke, he deserves to be seen for who he really is

Okay you guys let me rant for a sec, just listen ok?

why does everyone act like Percy Weasley and Richard Cameron are the absolute worst people ever?? like yeah okay they made mistakes, but so does literally everyone else. Percy was just trying to matter for once. he grew up in this huge chaotic family where he was never the funny one or the like edgy cool one and he finally got a chance at validation when he became prefect and head boy, so when someone finally took him seriously after Hogwarts, obviously he grabbed onto it. and yeah he was annoying and stuck up but he thought he was doing the right thing?? he wanted stability. control. that doesn’t make him evil.

and Richard Cameron. he was just terrified. like yes, he snitched. yes, it sucked. but he is a child like the rest. under all that pressure. just like the rest of them. some people fight, some people freeze. he froze. and that doesn’t make him some irredeemable villain, it makes valid and real

they aren’t heartless. they’re like basically scared boys who made bad choices. if we’re gonna hate them for that, then we might as well hate on half the freaking characters we love too

you get to decide if you shift or not. and being dependent on “signs” if you’re “getting better” is holding you back.

wanna know why so many shifts happen on accident? because people are aligned with the belief that their reality isn’t going to anywhere. they “try” it for the first time and do it because they LET THEMSELVES shift. they don’t wait for the universe to GRANT them their shifting abilities.

and if you’re struggling with methods, have you ever considered you aren’t actually trying or experimenting? do you say the same affs and use the same subs? like holy fuck, CHANGE IT UP!!!

sit up, think of nothing, or even think of EVERYTHING! you complain about disconnection yet you do the things that torture you the same way.

add something new!!! put a crystal near you, hug your plushies lawd ANYTHING. ANYTHING THAT FEELS NATURAL TO YOUUUU! YOU YOU

why are you searching for proof? does it discourage you? you shouldn’t even entertain the ideas of being “unskilled” or “unworthy”. not only will that affect your shifting journey, that will destroy your dignity alone. so what DO you do? keep your belief. believe that it is DONE. you MADE it by simply acknowledging your abilities!

and look, i totally understand having so many questions and no motivation. if i can give you rules that I MYSELF live by for shifting, it’s these:

1. you are ALWAYS worthy of shifting and always HAVE BEEN.

2. don’t blame another shifter’s journey for how you feel.

3. get out of your comfort zone.

and omfg, RELAX. you act like your dr is gonna run away one day.
