i wish people would discuss wada's pica more. its been coming up now luckily but for a long time it went pretty ignored and even now people keep making fun of it like its not a serious condition

i wish more people would talk about hama being severely abused while he was in prison. i feel like hama gets VERY overlooked when it comes to discussions of victimhood. he went into detail about the serious physical abuse he went through and nobody really talked about it

i wish people would talk more about tsutsujio in general. but more specifically, we recently got a really interesting discussion around the fact that tsu got physically aroused during his assault. thats an extremely common and real reaction that causes massive amount of guilt and shame for sexual abuse victims. i wish people were more willing to talk about that, because its genuinely devastating and it hurt to see how badly hes struggling with it.

hey! there are a lot of misconceptions in this post that i find kind of unfortunate as a staffsider. i dont really take issue with who likes staffside and who doesnt, but this is the internet and the tetro fandom, so its easy for stuff like this to spread misinformation that people end up parroting. to OP - im sorry that youve had a bad experience with staffsiders! im making my own post out of zero malice. but i want to go over everything in this post that isnt quite correct just to make sure people are getting the right information.

not html - just text! staffside's length is a barrier, but so long as you can read english, you can read it just fine if youre willing! not only that, but we've got a doc where everything is labelled for extra easy readability - you won't need to remember a single code as we have them all written down with every message!

actually, the opposite - it's been pretty explicitly stated that he did NOT do this.

The audience already hates him, why do we need to go the extra mile, it just feels like being edgy for the sake of being edgy and that's actually how a lot of the treatment in Staffside goes, its just grimdark nonsense for the sake of it and half the time it serves no narriative purpose then "Oh since its adults, we can go all in."

this is one i see a lot, because people dont seem to understand that at its core, staffside is a story about sexual assault. its about sexual assault, violation, power dynamics and the forces that keep victims silent. its going to feature sexual assault because its about sexual assault, and it does it extremely respectfully.

sexual assault and staffside are treated with the weight they deserve. this comes with the fact that von has stated several times that tetro is based on her own real-world experiences. personally, i am someone who has been raped. i am someone who has had to testify in court after being raped. since i have that experience, im confident in saying that tetro doesnt just throw these things in for the sake of darkness. it handles them extremely, extremely well. it handles them extremely accurately. everything dark in staffside is well-researched and well-executed in terms of respecting the weight of those dark topics.

The other issue is we get almost nothing about the so called "good interns" (Which trust me I have major issues with) and as such we have no reason to root for them aside from basic human decency and half the stuff we learn feels like emotional manipulation. We sympathise with the students since we learn who they are as people, their personalities and so when cruel shit happens, we feel for it. The interns get none of that as we get barely anything worth to root for. And as such I don't feel like rooting for them.

we actually get more about the interns than any other characters in staffside! while there are four heads and five supervisors, almost everyone else is what we consider "intern" rank, which comprises more than 25 people. we get a MASSIVE amount of information about the interns, including the fact that many of them had no idea what they were signing up for and are now incapable of leaving under any circumstances, some of which can't even take their own lives to escape and are basically trapped in every conceivable way.

The final point is, I feel like there is ZERO good ending for them. Aside from the fact their status quo won't change in Tetro Pink, as these guys are clearly here for the long run, but even as we get into Tetro Blue and Tetro White, what sort of outcome there is?

there is no good ending for the staff. some of them are already on death's doorstep. they're likely all going to die by the end of staffside. thats what makes their story so fascinating - you're basically viewing the autopsy of a story. you know they're dead, and now you get to follow the interesting and confusing and incredible story of how they got to that point. i absolutely love it.

That plus it feels kinda bad that you need to read a side material to understand everything, since I fear there will be moments later in Tetro which you require Staffside to understand Studentside, and when that happens I will not be a happy non despair bunny.

nope! von has stated repeatedly that you will never need to read staffside to understand studentside and that its just additional material for people who want to know more about that side of the tetro story! you're all good if you never touch it ever!

But all of these are small potatos compared to the community as when I voiced my dissatisfication with Staffside, the community showed its ugly side to me and sent me death threats after death threats saying I was a monster for not sympathising with the interns, despite not having a good reason to sympathise with them beyond basic human denency.

this is absolutely horrible and im sorry that happened to you. however, i dont think its fair to assess that as being a staffsider thing. i can honestly relate to this a lot because anyone who follows this blog knows that ive received an absolutely massive amount of hate and death threats. that said, my hate came from studentsiders. vons hate came from bubbles' fans. every fandom has bad apples. im not sure how fair it is to say that this is just what the staffside fandom is like. honestly my friends in staffside have been incredibly kind to me.

when i was being harassed by the other side of the fandom for having a physical disability, staffsiders defended me. staffsiders went out of their way to ask me questions and educate themselves and make me feel welcome. so many staffsiders are wonderful people. im sorry youve had a bad experience, everyone has in fandom spaces. its unfortunate, but its not a staffside-specific issue.

Since after how sadistic those motives are, and the sheer unfairity of some of the rules, I have lost all compassion for anyone on Staffside since they well and truly crossed the Moral Event Horizon.

if thats a hard line for you then theres truly nothing i can say. with that said though, most of the staff have absolutely no say in anything that happens in the game. they have zero grounds or methods to prevent anything at all and 90% of the time, the way they're being treated in exponentially more severe than that of the students. the staff are unforgivable for a lot of their actions, but they are undeniably victims.

as a final note - with all due respect, you havent read staffside. i was following you at the time you started posting about it and it was pretty clear that you were reading things out of order and not retaining most of the information. someone asked you about a psychology intern and you started talking about the engineering head - two characters who havent so much as interacted once. i think thats also why a lot of the info in this post is so inaccurate. which, again, not a problem! you dont have to read anything you dont want to read! but if you havent read it, i dont really think you can make most of these detailed claims about the writing with real merit.

//Its been learnt that aside from Wataru the founder of the Steering Committee, all the others were not told about the darker workings until they joined and that if they left they would be killed. And I do feel bad for them and not the interns, why? I feel the reason why this is the case is while the Steering Committee are a horrid bunch of people, they haven't done anything too immoral personally so there is still some degree of sympathy. hiroaki that regresses almost exclusively during/after one of his mental breakdowns or spirals. Tbh the only breakdowns he's had have been around Ojima so realistically he'd be the only one to know. But the concept of Hiroaki wandering around post-crying session and someone noticing he's more childlike than normal is. Really good

I saw the tetro agere post and i bring you little kamimura and caregiver hayashi. I personally imagine little kamimura is a very non-obvious regressor, as in you cant really tell except for a few things; his movements are slower and more careful but clumsy, he goes mute and just kinda looks at you when you talk to him, and he curls up on his bed hugging a pillow. Hayashi figures him out and just- sits there with him. And that’s really all he needs and wants. She just sits there and helps him when he grunts at her. Shes good at figuring out what he needs without words. And maybe eventually he’ll be able to say a few to her
