Also, the HERS post is... getting out of hand.

I have analyses of each character who has HERs and what it could mean. It is very comprehensive but I may be losing the plot.

Ugh it is so interesting that Adam and Eve's last name is Moonlit-- they represent the absolute worst of humanity (supposedly), were cruel people who exploited others for their own gain in a myriad of ways over the centuries. They also (mostly Eve) are continually regarded as "insane" and "broken," while the moon in Evillious is considered the harbinger of insanity and evil actions. However, the inclusion of "lit" calls back to the series' usage of light/darkness as representative of hope/isolation or despair. In the typical good/evil symbolic fashion. Additionally, the moon is later revealed to be Heaven itself, where humanity goes after death. Neither Adam nor Eve are able to pass on themselves, but their namesake is something that continually reflects the best of humanity and invokes imagery of a light at the end of a tunnel, a light in darkness, as well as a harbinger of great pain and suffering that pushes people to extremes. I like how it feels like they are metaphorically trapped in darkness and the only way out of the tunnel is the distant light of salvation which they will never get, which is also slowly causing them more and more pain. I also think it accentuates how they represent the best and worst of humanity within themselves.

In response to some posts I was seeing a while back, I think the only capacity in which HERS could possibly have worked as a plot point was like, back when everything was supposed to be subjective and the (at least American and translation based) fans were in the dark about 90% of the story direction and intentions.

I think HERS is one of the worst parts of Evillious. There is no way to spin "evil person gene is the reason why people do bad things" well.

However, back when we weren't sure what HERS was, I had a different understanding of it. I was under the impression HERS was a label Elluka (Clockworker) and others from fictional fantasy world were using to apply to violent and unstable people. It was an "illness" that wizards could "detect" in aberrant individuals, allowing them to blame and eradicate the individual instead of confronting the society around them that enabled or encouraged their actions. The same society that empowered wizards and heroes and elevated and honored them through battle even though objectively they were doing the same things as those with HERS. Then also, the consistent application of the "HERS" designation to mentally ill, traumatized, and neglected people showed how they were being actively demonized by society and their victim status was turned into a pathological, inherent, evil quality, denying them help or hope. Hell, HERS' havers frequent contracting with "demons" that gave them the power to perpetuate their crimes on a masse scale. Which again, I understood to be fantasy logic and the explanation of IN-UNIVERSE people on the subject of a good/bad dichotomy. The hints about fate's role, Allen's musings, and the creation of the Fourth Period supported this.

But any portrayal of HERS that makes it, like, a Real Gene and not a false, in-universe, flawed concept of psychology that the church, wizards, and aristocrats use to attempt to explain trauma, DID and any non-state endorsed violent behaviour and to victim blame and avoid responsibility while maintaining their positions of power, is eugenicist, imo.

I hope this makes sense, sorry it got kinda ramble-y.

After doing a tiny bit of research, Mem Aleph is more popularly known as a video game character from the Megami Tensei series but also has roots in misconceptions of Abrahamic Mythology.

According to the Megami Tensei Wiki:

"Mem and Aleph are the two romanized Hebrew letters, מ and א, the equivalents of the Latin alphabet's M and A respectively. In Jewish mysticism, Mem and Aleph are two of the three letters that are called the Mothers. With the three representing the primordial elements of air (Aleph), water (Mem) and fire (Shin). These three elements are said to give birth to creation."

In the series, she is a character that is the "mother of demons, human soul, and all life on earth".

MOTHY likely thought the name was cool due to the connotations of motherhood found in MA and her soul components.

I don't doubt there may be *some* influence from the Megami series due to Mem-Aleph's nature of being mother to demons (irina), the human soul (eve? this is the only one that doesnt fit), and all life (levia). Maybe someone else can think of a better way to fit these souls.

Interestingly the two letters represent water (MA's sin commonly being agreed to be Envy "the spring") and the beginning (general concept of a "genesis girl" though this is a stretch)

no but Mem Aleph objectively sounds cool as fuck. idk where mothy got it from but it goes so hard as a title. the fact that it's not used often in the series is a crime

Tete du Fromage

After the events of Master of the Heavenly Yard, Kiril decided to continue living with his memories and explore paralell worlds with his fiancee Elluka. Taking on new names Quiche and Elle Horloge, they open Atelier Horloge as a workshop giving gifts to those in need. With them is a salsewoman Tete du Fromage, who has a slight parallel to Irina.

Let's talk about it.

The tragedy of Kiril Clockworker is a sad tale, wanting only to live a happy life with his fiancee and sister. If only he didn't live in the World of Crime and Punishment. It's interesting after choosing to travel in parallel worlds to look for the 13th Clockwork Lullaby he chooses to hire a young girl that has a resemblance to his sister Irina. Having the two by his side, just like his music box wish even if Irina is trapped in a re_birthday loop.

The ressemblance may be surface level, them having redish-pink hair. Many have assumed she's an "alter-ego" (parallel character) to Irina. Notably, she does not have the same last name as the owners. This could just be so nobody mistakes her as Kiril and Elluka's child.

The stare she gives is up for interpretation.

The stare could be a "retail customer service smile" where she hates singing to customers but has to smile for her job. This is unlikely but a possibility.

It could also be a knowing stare, as she is very well-versed in the items in the shop as she sings about them. She also warns customers about the consequences of misuse.

Lastly she could have some form of malice inside her, the knowing stare in hopes the user causes disaster. This would also more closely parallel her with Irina. Irina gave humans vessles of sin (created by Seth) to spread malice, while tete may be giving humans the merchandise to spread destruction (created by Kiril).
