I thought the Plain Records pressing from 2014 was pretty good, but the MOV is a noticeable improvement. Top Ten 90s record for me, though it wouldn’t have been at the time.

Used Find #5 I paid way too much for this NM original press, and I already had a pretty good copy, to boot! Was feeling wild, reckless and free yesterday, I guess. Yes, that's the original shrinkwrap. One of my favorite all-time albums and this pressing sounds killer - puts all reissues to shame.

Used Find #4 UK best of by Jimmy Cliff. It sounds awesome, but has the 'Reprise' version of "The Harder They Come" instead of the main version which is unfortunate.

Used Find #3 I never made it much past 'Telephone Free Landslide Victory' which is one of my all-time favorite records. Many seem to like this, so I took a chance.

Used Find #2
UK Original w/12" 45rpm single A Porky Prime Cut 🐷
When I saw this today, I knew it was the definitive edition, and, although it’s not a record I love, my inner nerd could not pass it up.

Used find #1 today. Passed up a copy earlier this week. When I saw a second copy I knew it was fate. 2nd press with barcode, original stampers, photo insert.

Singles Soundtrack 2017, US, 2LP edition Timely that this would show up today. I preordered it back in December. I love the bonus CD of Chris Cornell outtakes, etc. When this soundtrack came out, my three favorite bands were Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Soundgarden, in that order. Still, my favorite song here has always been, and still is, "Drown" by Smashing Pumpkins. It's my favorite Pumpkins song by a long shot.

Randy California - Kapt. Kopter and the (Fabulous) Twirly Birds
I only heard this record for the first time two or three weeks ago, but it shot straight into my Top 100 Albums list with a bullet. Randy California was given his name by his mentor, Jimi Hendrix, when he was 15 and they played in the Blue Flames together in NYC. Nobody sounded more like Jimi than this dude. When Jimi went to London, Randy, being a minor, had to return to California, and so started the band Spirit with his stepdad. He wrote the song (“Taurus) that Jimmy Page stole the intro for “Stairway to Heaven” from. He died saving his 12 year old son from a riptide in Hawaii – the son survived. Randy California is a motherfucking hero.
This album has got to be one of the greatest stoner rock albums ever made. To call it a loose jam session would be an understatement. Randy and Noel Redding and the aforementioned stepdad rip through this LP, laying to waste all in their path. The few original tunes boast only a vague framework and tons of fiery attitude, but the covers are revelatory. Mr. California covers two Beatles singles - their best A-side and their best B-side: “Day Tripper” & “Rain” respectively, and just kills them. Also on the program is Paul Simon’s “Mother & Child Reunion” - a song that is very dear to me. Kapt. Kopter strips all of the reggae out of the tune and it can only be read as an elegy to recently-deceased Jimi. The vocals are surprisingly amazing and even when the take breaks down abruptly it seems as though the finish line has already been crossed and the gold medal won. I will always love this record. It astounds me. Call me Andy California.
Oh, and, yeah, I drew that picture in a fit of idolatry.

I found a bunch of weird records today. I bought each of these for a different reasons, not least if which, this quote from the back of the Christmas record: “These krucial grooves were jammed with fury and precision at Fort Apache North, Cambridge, MA.” It is also suggested that the album be listened to while nude. I was glad to get that Allman Bros even though I’m not a huge fan, that’s an essential record. I bought the one record cuz of that dude’s sweet cape. Fingerprintz cuz there was a Vox amp prominently displayed on the cover. I would say overall I did pretty well. Only a couple of the records I got were shit and I didn’t even bother to post em. Most of these I will listen to again.

Radio City - Class of '77 CBGB's era NY power pop band that didn't release anything in their time and quietly disappeared. This LP collects their demos and some more produced tracks. A surprising bevy of catchy tunes cut into this wax - the production and sound quality is up to snuff, too. Recommended to fans of the genre, this can be had for cheap.
