They would absolutely become fic-writing buddies online owing to their similar taste in writing self-insert fics with the magically powerful person they admire.
What a day they'll have when they find out that it is, in fact, the exact same person too.
More browser translation silliness, this time the bully is…

If anyone asks me why Rood Chrishi is my favourite shounen protagonist I shall guide them to this post.

Unfortunately their interaction this chapter was perfect, but I didn’t want to just draw it scene-for-scene, so you get this instead

BH remake ch 30
The exchange between Rood and Lidusis remains more or less the exact same, verbatim. The only notable change for me is in Rood's demeanor.
In the old version he seems a bit embarrassed to admit how powerful he is outright, likely given how he might come off as a braggart to others (though he's just stating a fact in his case)
But new version of Rood appears to have no social awareness whatsoever and is entirely unabashed when saying the exact same thing
Humility? Never heard of him this time.
This goes back to a difference I've noticed in the new Rood... he seems a little less aware of the effect some of his words and actions have on others (maybe why the scene where he charms the receptionist girl at Helios into giving him Lidusis' room key is also no longer there now... Rood isn't aware enough to use such ploys anymore).
I like how the older version of Rood was easier to understand and connect to, but I assume the author has something in different in mind for his character's story with this seeming intentional difference.
In the old version the classroom scene opens up with a panel of Lin silently listening to the other students talk, but this time we have Dio instead.
Maybe it's meant to focus on how Dio himself might be feeling in this situation a bit more (being more deeply involved and affected), but at the rate Lin's scenes are being cut she's starting to feel more like a vocal background character rather than a side character. 🥲
But apart from that, I'm glad they've kept the part where she speaks out against their treatment of Lidusis and makes them feel ashamed. 😤
Iel's part is speaking out in the class however... I'm not sure of how to explain it... it remains the same in spirit, but feels entirely different in impact to me now (?).
I think this might be very subjective to reader interpretation, but I'll try to explain what I mean to the best of my ability in the rest of this post...
In both cases, when the class tries to argue against Lin's defense of Lidusis with things she couldn't answer well herself (like how students saw Lidusis as a monster in the library before), Iel speak up by explaining Chevel's likely use of illusion magic and how the students are really just afraid of Chevel and the Klads rather than truly believing anything about Lidusis... and concluding that they have a chance against them now that Rood is in the picture.
But somehow, Iel came across as mostly cold in the old version, while she comes across as correctly calculating in this version.
In the old version, Iel didn't seem to care or react to anything going on at all until this point, so it seemed like she just decided to join in when it was convenient to her. But this time, we saw her look worried / concerned and watched the events surrounding Lidusis and Rood quite closely before this point, so it seems like she was waiting for a moment when she could contribute to the situation more effectively. (Which immediately makes all the scenes Iel is watching everything going on in the hall more relevant.)
Another thing is that in the old version Iel kicks off her whole talk with "I've been thinking about it..." making it sound like she'd thought about it and figured out what was going on a while back, but just didn't care enough to speak up until now despite all the drama going on. But the dialogue seems to be different here (I think? I don't have access the OG Korean text so I can't be 100% sure) and Iel just starts speaking directly about what she's thinking making it seem more like she's thinking out loud about what's going through her mind right then. (TBF Looking back on it, MAYBE the old ver was supposed to have the same implication but I misunderstood, mb. But even if so, it comes across more clearly now imo.
It would always make me irrationally upset when I read this scene... that Rood and Lin were trying so desperately to help Lidusis despite not knowing what was going on, and Iel might have figured it out long ago and just kept quiet about it. But I don't get that feeling from the scene now.
In terms of actual dialogue, what she says seems to be mostly the same. One notable change however, is that in the old version once Iel finished explaining how they were likely tricked into turning against Lidusis by Chevel's illusion magic, she immediately concludes her talk by saying "None of this probably makes a difference to you, since you're just making excuses" which a) doesn't seem to be true, since a number of them do seem genuinely scared of Lidusis not knowing what's going on with him, and b) is kinda a jerk remark to say, Iel. I mean, at bare minimum at least they're talking about how they're collectively going to deal with an issue their whole class is facing while you've been comfortably just reading a book in your quiet little corner contributing absolutely nothing the whole time.
But in the new version an extra bit of dialogue has been added; with Iel immediately following up exposing Chevel's trick with a type of defense of Lidusis, pointing out that if something had really been wrong with him the school wouldn't have ignored that and removed him already.
...then both versions feature her concluding with the same remark saying that "it probably wouldn't make a difference to you anyway, since you're just using the excuse of Lidusis being a monster because you're afraid of Chevel."
I honestly get a different impact because of the way that line is placed now, the implication being not so much they wouldn't care to know about the truth of what was going on with Lidusis, but that the root reason behind why they really want him out of the school against all logic is that they just don't want to be in Chevel's firing range, which wouldn't change even if they do know what's going on.
Looking back on it and comparing versions, it doesn't seem like what Iel was trying to say is really different between the two... it's just that it comes across more clearly now that she's not trivialising knowing the secret behind Chevel's trick in turning people against Lidusis, but rightfully calling out that the real reason they don't want to side with Lidusis is because they're afraid of Chevel. (So it's not so much saying that the others "Don't care" about knowing the truth, some like Lin do, but that it isn't enough and "wouldn't make a difference" to turn around the whole social situation.)
Her demeanor also makes her seem like she's daring them to challenge the truth of her words now, rather than one-sidedly insulting them.
In both versions a girl then points out that Iel isn't any different from the rest of them, and Iel agrees "Yeah, you're right" without hesitation. But there's a change in her vibe during the scenes which gives an entirely different feel.
To the best of my knowledge, the dialogue itself is the exact same. But the impression it gives is very different: In the old version it was like Iel didn't care that she was the same as everyone else in the situation at all. (Which makes her seeming to talk down to everyone else seem even more snobbish... like gurl you act like you're talking down to everyone from your high horse and idk what horse you even think you're on. At least Chevel makes sense as a noble born Hereis.)
But in the new version, the darker overtone makes it seem like she's disgusted / disappointed in herself too, while still acknowledging that she is no different from the others... so it seems more like she's criticising herself along with everyone else and letting herself get burnt by her own scathing remarks too.
And then there's her concluding her speech by saying that she's no different from them, but that the situation is different now that Rood is here.
I somehow got two VERY different impressions from the two different versions despite having the exact same line and I really don't know how to explain it in a good way, so imma just say it exactly the way I think of it:
In the old version it sounded to me like Iel meant "I don't really care about Lidusis like you, but now that Rood is here I feel confident speaking out because we can just use him as a bodyshield against the Hereis. Ah- here he is now, I shall be the first to get behind him so I'll be safe."
But now it gives an impression of "I was also too scared of the Hereis to do anything like you, but now that Rood is here we have an effective way of fighting back against the Hereis, and so I shall be the first to support him from behind in this. Ah- here he is now, allow me to act upon my words."
I would say that I'm finding Iel more likeable in this version, but it doesn't seem like she's much too differently from before... so I'd say thanks to the author's narrative presentation this time I think I'm able to understand Iel's words, actions and reasoning a lot better now.
P.S. Absolutely love this panel of Chevel
He's radiating proper big bad boss energy this time, loving the vibe.
P.P.S. The new version features a soul crushed Lidusis looking ahead of him
In the old version he was angled like he was looking behind himself... at Chevel
Like he knew exactly what was being done to him at Chevel's hands but didn't care enough to fight back and it hit me like sledge hammer when I reread.
A bit sad to see that tiny detail gone, but oh well.
#black haze#remake#new bh#comparison#ch 30#bh 30#my post#text#I think some of my dislike for Iel is showing a bit much#I apologise to people who like Iel#but I hope that what I've explained here clarifies why it is so#also I'm liking her better in the new version with the changes#Old Rood was the more socially aware one while Iel was a brick#New Iel seems more socially aware while Rood's the dense brick now#...I do not know how to process this information lol

GASP shocking revelation... Black Haze is written by Chevel and the narrator of the manhwa was Iel all along!!!
...Ah, wait, maybe I misunderstood.
I think Chevel just writes fantasy fanfiction and Iel just uncovered his secret stash and is reading it out loud in class to embarrass him. Good job, Iel!

I think the author might've purposely made the chapter shorter so it can be released on time 🤔
This week there was no delay, we will see what happens next week. 🫵🧐
#black haze#news#new bh#remake#reblog#text#I don't mind longer chapters with the delay really#but whatever is better for the author

What?! Nooooo TToTT I had assumed he was mad about what Chevel was doing to Lidusis while he couldn't stop him... it didn't occur to me that he was criticising Chevel's actions in regards to himself! 8(
Ain't no way I'm forgiving Chevel this time if he's hurting Lapis too.
Blow just drop him.
Wait…Lapis seemed more hurt by Chevel’s comment this time :(
#black haze#lapis#remake#new bh#reblog#chevel#text#no need to bother yourself with him on that cliff baby <3#hotshot can care of himself just fine using his father's name clearly

BH remake ch 29
In the older version, Chevel and his gang are walking outside as they have been summoned by the staff about the Manon incident already.
In this ver they are inside the building the whole time (initially walling through the library which is a communal area), and it seems more coincidental that Chevel just happened to run into his guys looking beaten up (or it is left unsaid that they were summoned... but it seems more like they'd agreed to meet up here instead).
The embarrassing events of Lapis trying to be Blow's apprentice and being turned down in the past and being commented on Chevel for being low company for Linus to be around in the present are the exact same, unfortunately for him.
But Lapis' critical comments of Chevel abusing his authority are more comical in the old version while they seem more serious this time. Additionally, Linus in the old version tries to rile up the otension between Lapis and Chevel telling the latter the former called him "disgusting" (which he didn't seem to say directly?) whereas in the new version he just repeats Lapis' comment of calling Chevel "childish" loud enough for him to hear instead, seeming less malicious and more mischievous instead.
The events of Rood being questioned by Rowell and Khan about the damage caused during the incident are also nearly the exact same.
But in the old version Rood pretty much knows he's going to have trouble as soon as he realises the Lady who fought Shic saw him beat up the bullies and is already worried from that point on... but in this version, he only seems to have that realisation and line of thought after being thoroughly stared at, interrogated and not believed by her instead by the end of the questioning by the staff.
It seems like author is either implementing the logic of how Rood/Blow only saw the start of the Tess vs Shic fight and quite didn't see how strong she really was, OR in this version Tessiana isn't as physically strong as before and her main character strength lies in her intellect and ability of discernment instead (which Rood is just coming to realise).
Well, we should be able to see which it is in the upcoming chapters... 😏
Also, absolutely adore this panel redraw in the new version:
Remake art really did that smirk justice, heh.
Take that, Hadelio.
#black haze#remake#new bh#bh 29#ch 29#my post#not a fan of how remake feels like it's narratively downplaying Tessiana#at least Lin I can make a few excuses for since her most vital moments have been preserved and she'll have more to come later#but I feel like the earliest and clearest indicators we had of what a beast Tessiana is was from Rood and Shic's interactions with her#but Shic vs Tess fight has many moments absent in the new ver and now Rood shows minimal reaction to her compared to before#anything absent about Lin hits my heart but any subtractions from Tess's character hurts my soul

I also miss her old hair colour... much like the Helios uniform I had liked how unique and distinct it was. Now it looks like it could be from any manhwa.
But at this point I see the changes to her fight in the auction arc a far bigger aggression... we no longer got the scenes of Shic pulling her up by her hair, transforming and freezing part of his hand, slicing his magic circle in half, nearly slicing his face off as well and successfully cutting some of his hair, forcing him to be on defensive and clearly landing a hit on him with her sword while he was distracted and we see his expression of last minute realisation going "Oh sh-"
Instead, we only got to see the initial scene of Shic grabbing her sword with his bare fist, flinging her at the wall, then her charging at him with her sword while transformed and it wasn't even clear whether it actually landed or not (in fact, if I hadn't read the old ver I wouldn't have known) ...and then we just see the aftermath of her beaten up badly by Shic.
The only time we see them even directly connect in the new version of the fight was when Shic stops her sword in the first attack with no sweat. In this ver it doesn't look or feel like Tess gave him much trouble (since most of those scenes from the old ver are absent) and we mostly just saw her get one-sidedly get tossed and beaten up by him instead. The one attack that she does get him with... we aren't even sure if he did get hit with it bc of how vague it was.
Unless we get a future flashback showing what went down in the fight with her attack actually hitting him in more detail, this felt very unsatisfying tbh.
Let's be honest, this was the real crime of the remake.

#black haze#remake#new bh#old bh#tessiana#comparison#reblog#this fight was like... one of the main things I'd been looking forward to with the auction arc#instead we got a bare bones abridged ver without the actual meat of the fight that made it what it was#as I mentioned before it might be bc author changed the way her powers work...#they used to have speed as a main factor but it consequently felt like she was too weak in strength compared to the others#maybe author changed it because of that... but now she somehow feels even more weak than before#but as for the hair design change I wish they'd changed her eyes to match the new colour at least

What are you talking about, this is the absolute perfect post which embodies exactly why we love you and your art. 👌💖
Congratulations on reaching 1000 posts! 🎉🎊🎆

If anyone remembers that cleavage meme I did ages ago, I struggled so much with it that I had multiple scrapped sketches for different characters in different positions! Anyways. Cleaned up the Shic sketch since I thought it wasn’t so bad

Neco, is it OK for me to use your art as a profile picture on other social networks (giving credit, of course)? 🤔
I want to make sure before anything else to avoid any inconvenience.
Yeah!
But you gotta tell me which one you use because I’m curious lmao
