When I first got my Wacom, I started on this, just drawing the first thing that came to my head, this was the result. I gave her earrings and a choker, I don't know why, but I guess that was part of drawing the first thing that came to my head.

I got a Wacom drawing for my birthday this year. I want to do more drawing. This is actually my second drawing project, my first is also Paper Mario related.

I was playing the Remake to Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door, and I certainly see the appeal of the partner system in the first two Paper Mario games, but it got me thinking. What if i designed my own cast of Paper Mario partners.

So I came up with this fellow. His real name is Anthony, he also goes by the stage name Enrico the Gryphon. He is a Hammer Bro who lives a double life as juggler, he is in search of an audience to call his own. He performs at the bazaar of his hometown while wearing a costume he made himself, but he works in his town as border patrol. He finds the opportunity to travel after luring a large beast away from the bazaar as a juggling performance, he finds himself traveling with Mario while in his costume, in search of an audience.

in combat he'll use his various juggling tools to perform crowd control, his basic attack is the baton in his hand, which if you perform the action command will bounce off another enemy before returning to his hand.

his first move is called Gryphon Juggle, he'll juggle ten of whatever tool he's ranked at, and then launch them to hit every enemy on screen.

his second move is called Gryphon's Breath, he'll start juggling fireballs he launched out of his mouth, and then launch them from his hands causing the burn status to every enemy.

the third move is called either Gryphon Flight or Gryphon Bomber, he'll pull out a pair of makeshift gryphon wings, jump to the wall, he'll glide across the battle screen while dropping his eagle shaped hammers, piercing defense.

I redrew my girl Winona in IbisPaint. This was fun but man it took time. I’m mostly proud of it. But looking at it again, I think my Pixel rendition was better except the hands, the hands are better here.

I was trying to go for a very, paper marioy background but i really didn't know how to do that. My art knowledge is very limited. So there's that.

I used all the same colors as my Pixel rendition. so maybe she's a little bright here, but you know how it is, you are your own biggest critic and all that.

I don't have any more info to share about this character otherwise I'd add some.

OC shorts Winona's short romp outside home

“Okay, calm down Winona, yer a Wiggler, yer tough!” She told herself as she was in the woods near town. She is the furthest she's ever been from home. Which isn't saying much but still. She comes across different animals than she's used to but she knows them. She comforts herself by calling them by name. “Owl… Swoop, Robin, oh look it's a bunny! Hi Mr bunny!” She attempted to pick up the rabbit but it ran before she could get close enough. “Fair… I'm pretty big…”

Being honest Winona didn't know what she was scared of. She was just told not to go here, so she'd always been scared to. She came here because one of her chickens ran in this direction after someone left her fence open. “I swear, when I catch that chicken I'm given a talking to, to that buzzy beetle… he should know bettah”

She felt like she was getting lost so she started calling out to her chicken because she at least knows which way is back. “Here Chickadee! Come here girl!” That's when she encountered the remnants of a fortress and heard clucking. “There you are! Come here Chickadee!” She pulled out her rope to lasso her chicken, she wasn't taking chances. With a mighty toss of her lasso she catches the chicken “oh thank goombis you're okay! Don't you evah run off on me again!”

She heard a voice from the fortress “is someone out there?!” Scared witless she clutched her chicken and ran “NOPE NO ONE OUT HERE!” She didn't know anyone was in the ruins and didn't feel a need to know who was in there. She just wanted to go back to familiar grounds. “Wait little missy! Oh, she's gone. Musta scared her off.” A small old man of a Whomp stood up. “Oh well, I'm sure she's fine. Would have appreciated a little company though.”

She got home and put Chickadee back in the coop. “Let me repeat myself. Don't you evah, and I mean EVAH run off on me again! Okay?” She turned red with anger as she spoke but calmed down. “Great now the sun's all low and I gotta put off today's chores to tomorrow!” She sighed “at least Chickadee is safe.”  That’s when she heard a call from home for supper, “Winona, stop being a workaholic and come inside for supper!” she made way “Comin’ ma!”

This is just, basically everything I’ve come up with for Winona Wiggler

Born and raised in a small farming town, Winona never had real expectations. But she loved going outside and spending time with the local fauna and her family's farm animals. Her family knew her being an animal lover was gonna be a good thing later in life. She always loved learning though she didn't get the opportunity very often. Her local library is small and schooling isn't seen as too important around here. The closest university to her, according to her father, is a week's travel. Something deemed not worth the effort, something she just accepted. Everything she needed to know for what she thought would be her future, she could learn from him.

But this didn't keep her from wondering. Was there more, out there? It was always her biggest frustration in life. One that grew smaller and smaller as she got older, eventually she, like everyone else in her small town, came to stop wondering about the outside world and focused on her tight-knit community. She started to figure, every town has to be like hers. It wasn't worth going any further than the town fairgrounds for the fairs and farmers markets.

Winona growing up in such a small town, this was the type of place where everyone knew everyone. She only went to school with 4 other kids. A Goomba named Clint, a Koopa named Koopen, a toad called Bucky, and a buzzy beetle named Armando. As a result they were all a tight-knit group of friends who stand by each other to the bitter end, going through all their ups and downs together.

The idea of her chapter is that you’d be trying to solve the mystery of where her farm animals went, each friend having their own theory they ask you to look for evidence of.  All except Koopen, he simply believes they ran away and he accompanies you to prove all their theories are wrong.  The most important of these theories is, Winona believes someone stole them for reasons unknown.  When you find evidence that they were stolen, Koopen abandons you because “I didn’t sign up to actually fight!” kind of cowardly by nature. That’s when you go to her and she goes to the place where they were taken in a ballistic rage.

Once there she is calm enough to decide that if you’re both in the same place you should work together. I admit I cannot come up with a field ability for her, just can’t. I’m drawing a blank. Either way part way into this dungeon, for lack of better terms, you find the animals, among many many others.  It’s a collector type deal.  Think like, Brainiac, I guess, they have the animals all in a diorama of display cases.  Here Winona just looks in awe as she realizes how little she actually knows. All while Mario and his first partner discuss what is here and where they’re from. Leading to a boss fight against this villian.

Once the animals are returned that’s when she discusses staying with the party to learn more about the world, and what other options she has.  Just wanting to learn more about this big world she lives in.

So I described that she’d kinda fight like the two koopa allies of the past. So her no FP attack would be her going up and hitting the front enemy with her hand.  Her first FP ability she goes into a rage and charges forward with reckless abandon hitting anything and everything on the ground in front of her.  My next thought for an ability is her to pull out a lasso and throw it to catch the front enemy and throw them at the next enemy behind, think Yoshi Kid’s gulp but with tools.  The final ability I came up with is her pulling out a whistle and suddenly a stampede of farm animals hits the enemy, causing a random status ailment to the enemies.

I’m working on another rendition of Winona in another drawing program too.  Just something to maybe look forward to.

So I'm curious to all of the Paper Mario fans on this site. I've got two questions.

Would you guys like a Paper Mario game where you have access to all your partners at once in battle? I know Paper Mario would need to be completely rebalanced to make this not break the game, but I'm curious who would want it?

What Mario, I guess I'll use the word species, would you want to see as partners in a new proper RPG Paper Mario Title? Obviously I want Wiggler but that's not the only one. I think I'm trying to come up with a Ninji. but what would you guys wanna see?

So , I've been trying to get into pixel art so I thought I'd show one I've been proud of. It's a wiggler from the Mario series. I've got more to say.

This is Winona Wiggler. She's a Paper Mario OC. I wanted to come up with a custom partner character because i played through the first paper Mario recently and I'm playing Thousand year door now. She's a rancher or more accurately a rancher's daughter.

She has a very small outlook on the world. She has no plans for the future, she simply is gonna be a rancher like her father, and his father before him and so on. She's never really considered that she can BE anything else. She loves animals so she's fine with this life. 

Mario happens on her small farm town while she's having a crisis. Her animals are disappearing. She is convinced that someone is stealing them but she had no evidence of this. She is trying to stay calm but she's not succeeding. When Mario brings her evidence she goes ballistic and heads over to the area. She doesn't know that it's actually tied to what Mario is here for when he catches up she's calm enough to know that if they're both gonna be here, they should work together.

She stays with Mario because she wants to see the world because this little adventure was enough to make her realize just how small her world was. In my head, when the party finds where the bad guy of the chapter is keeping her animals, it turns out they have a lot more than just hers.  Rather than being happy to see her animals, she's baffled and befuddled, at how few of these animals she’s seen before. As she hears Mario's first ally call out what animals these are and where they're from. Her metaphorical bubble pops as she realizes just how small her world was. 

In my head she kind of plays the same role as the Koopa allies in the first two paper Marios. She would charge into battle for a single hit, and then a charge that hits all the grounded enemies.

Asked for her personality. She’s kind and loves animals, but she’s also incredibly hot headed. But her motivation after the chapter she’d be obtained in is curiosity. She wants to learn more animals, more about the world she lives in and more of her options. She’s never considered a life outside of her ranch, now she wants to know for certain if she wants one.

I made this in pixel Studio on my phone. Originally at 128x128 but I sized it up when I saved it so it can be seen better. It's I think 6 layers. Each set of feet, each hand, the body and head share a layer and the hat is it's own layer. Like I said I'm proud of this. I kinda forgot Paper Mario doesn't have legs, only feet... meh not important.
