Reading my own fanfiction is basically just a rollercoaster of emotional whiplash.

20% of the time: “Hold on. I wrote this? This is fire. This is emotionally devastating in the best way. This scene is dripping with tension. I’m a literary perfectionist. Someone give me a book deal.”

80% of the time: “Straight to jail. Immediate prison. Why is everyone’s breath hitching?. I used the word ‘gaze’ three times in one paragraph like I was possessed. Did I think 'his eyes darkened' was profound? Why is everyone clenching their jaws? Why is someone whispering 'their name like a prayer' again?? No one talks like this. What is this dialogue. Why are there so many weird metaphors and em-dashes…”

More on the Casino!Layton AU

Once again, on the Casino Au!

No drawing this time, but some ‘novelised part’ bit along the point list!

You can skip the ‘fic’ parts, as I’m also going to detail everything in the point list too! xD

“Let it be remembered that I thought this is a bad idea from the beginning.” Said Hershel as he kept his eyes closed to let Angela dust some eyeshadow on his lids.

“I’m really sorry to ask this of you.” Replied Henry from the chair close to his working desk, “If I could, I would have done so myself. But I’m afraid that I’m far too recognisable as it is. If I were to show myself there, I wouldn’t be able to get any information out.”

The former archaeologist made a soft, understanding noise, careful not to move as the blonde sitting in front of him applied some glittering powder at the corner of his eyes.

“It’s not as if we are asking to arrest the owner or anything. Even the most meaningless-appearing bit of information would be a huge step forward in our investigation.”

After that fateful day, when the Ledore sought him out and the three of them finally had that much needed discussion, Hershel had started to put himself back together. Their offer to work for them as an accountant had also been gratefully accepted, for he really didn’t like working as an apartment complex caretaker that much. Or at all.

While it had been a necessity at the time, he was glad to not have to clean hallways anymore. His respect for those forced (or not) to do that kind of work increased even more so.

Maybe I should send flowers to Rosa, to let her know that I’m well and to thank her for how much she did for me when…

“I’m done.” Declared Angela as she put away her make-up tools before handing him a hand mirror, “What do you think?”

Her work almost made him look like a completely different person. It was not overly flashy, but also noticeable enough that it highlighted different features of his face. Somehow, his eyes now looked even darker, and he seemed to radiate a sense very different from his usual composed, gentlemanly aura.

“It’s perfect, thank you, Angela.” He smiled at his childhood friend, who gave him a small grin in return.

Henry stepped next to his wife, looked at his face and nodded.

“We only need to find you proper clothes, and then you’ll truly look the part.”

In the end, they settled on a simple button-up white shirt and black slacks with matching loafers.

“Simple yet effective.” Declared Angela as she looked up and down at him one last time, making sure that her make-up work hadn’t smudge on the clothes, “Do you want to put your top hat to finish the look?”

Hershel took a moment to think about it before shaking his head, “No, I don’t think that I will. I’m afraid that it might be a tad too distinctive.”

The blonde gave him an agreeing, “You’re right. Now, let’s get you to the place, shall we?”

- Sooo, before Hershel ended up at the head of one of the City’s Casino, he worked for the Ledore as an accountant. He also continues to do some ‘informal’ archaeological work in the ruins surrounding Monte d’Or. He, however, still hadn’t make his way back into Akbadain. Now that Angela and Henry are aware how much the whole thing hurt him and is still a fresh scar on his heart, they don’t pressure him.

(The three of them still often ask for forgiveness for the years of miscommunication. They might do so until the end of their lives.)

- A few months after Hershel started to work for the Ledore, they caught words of a Casino that opened in Monte d’Or two years or so ago in which unsavoury deals are happening (drugs, possibly human traffic)

- Their suspicion on the latter is somewhat confirmed when a regular of the place went missing one month earlier. Henry and Angela are rightfully worried and want to act before the situation got too out of hands.

- Unfortunately, as Henry pointed out, both are far too recognisable as they are the sort of the founders of the city, and so they asked Hershel’s advice before the idea of him getting undercover was raised.

- Of course, Hershel is a bit apprehensive, for he fears not to be able to up to the task, but Angela and Henry assured him that they don’t need a big act, just him to stay a few hours there, play a few games and gather information.

- And so, after a make-over session, Hershel makes his way for the first time to ‘The Calypso’, in hopes of the best while fearing the worse.

- Truth is, with his brilliant mind and his ease to talk to people thanks to his few months as a University professor, Hershel managed to make good impression to the patrons and some staff members and got an invitation to come back in a few days with a promise to be able to access to the restricted part of the Casino.

- From that first night, he gathered a few clues leading toward the worst-case scenario of what is happening there. He also quickly understood that most of the low-rankings workers there are unaware of the shady dealings happening under their noses. He stressed that fact to the Ledore while telling them that he would return to the Calypso to continue his investigation.

- One month and a half later of coming to that place, gathering clues and making friends with the higher up of the institution, he collected enough stuff to justify a police investigation for irregularities in the Casino’s account which. It didn’t take them long to find a trail leading them to the worse of what was happening in the Casino and the police soon arrested everyone involved in the drug (and human) traffic.

- As the Calypso was forced to close, it raises the question of what to do with those working there that weren’t involved in the traffic.

- After discussing at lengths the issue and what could be done about it, the Ledore bought the building and Hershel stepped in as it’s manager/head/owner.

- He decided to use it as a cover to gather information to unveil shady dealings and to help arrest known criminals.

- As it would require for him to never get suspicious from those coming there or for words of future arrestation linked to his new business, Hershel, Angela and Henry agreed that they wouldn’t be able to arrest everyone or to use… unconventional means to reach their end goal.

- Hershel is the most involved in the idea, for he has been the victim of corruption and power struggle in his quest of finding the truth about Claire’s death and lost everything to it. And while he doesn’t feel like a gentleman when doing this, he decided that it was the lesser of two evils.

“What do you think?” asked Hershel as he stepped out from behind the folding screen, finishing to adjust his shirt garters, making sure there was no wrinkles on his dark grey waistcoat, before putting on the monocle that had dangling from its chain.

“You’ve got the ‘Alice in Wonderland’ vibes just right.” Smiled Angela as he examined him from head to toe with one hand on her chin, “I really like the addition of cards symbols in your make up.”

“Thanks. I was afraid it might be a tad too much.”

“Not at all. I truly think it’s a nice touch to the overall look.”

Hershel glanced at the mirror leaning against the wall. He had to admit that now everything was put together, he didn’t as bad as he first thought.

“There.” Said Henry as he extended him a small box, “As the new head of your kingdom, you need to make extra sure not to be late, late for an important date!”

Both Angela and Hershel chuckled at that, the later taking the offered box and finding a beautiful wristwatch in it.

The underside was carved with the following words.

No Risk, No Glory.

The wet chuckle he let out was mirrored by his two friends who silently watched him attaching the watch to his right wrist.

“Thank you, both of you, for all the help you gave me until now.”

Both Angela and Henry stepped forward to hug him in return.

“And thank you, for giving us your forgiveness for all the ill we caused you.” They said as one.

They stayed in that hug for a little while, until a knock at the door brought them out of the moment.

“Sir? It’s almost time for the Ouverture Ceremony.”

“We’re on our way.” Called out Hershel after clearing his throat once, detangling himself from Angela and Henry’s embrace.

“Do you feel ready?” asked the former.

“I am.”

“Do you want to take your hat with you?” offered Henry.

Like that day a few months ago, Hershel considered the offer. Once again, he declined.

“I’m afraid that my hat is far too distinctive.”

And I don’t think I’ll ever feel like a gentleman when working in my casino.

The man accepted his answer as it was.

“Alright. Let’s go then.” He said, stepping forward to open the door to his wife and his friend.

The trio walked down the hallways of the private part of Hershel’s casino in silence, each mentally preparing for what was waiting for them.

Before they stepped through the door leading to the public part of the building, Angela said.

“I’m sure that you’re going to do great thing for the world, Hershel, even though they won’t seem like it.”

The brunette barely faltered as he turned to look at the blonde. Instead, he gave her a small, grateful smile.

While I was thinking about, I realise that I could play around the ‘Alice in wonderland’ theme casino, so here it is!

I’m awful at drawings background, but you can imagine it full of decoration calling back to Lewis Carol novel!

The other dealers working in the playing room are all nicknamed from a card deck. Hershel chooses for his dealer persona the ‘jack of hearts’. The different rooms are call-back to location in the novel, and the unknown head of the casino is called the ‘Monarch of Hearts’ by the customers.

All workers under Hershel know that he is the once in charge, but they’re also sworn to secrecy. They’re also into the scheme of fighting corruption and stuff, and everyone was formed into mental and manipulation techniques to get information.

As for the casino’s name? ‘Kingdom of Heart’

Desmond for the character game ? :))

Oh oh oh! Let's go for Desmond!

-My thoughts on him: unfortunately, I had a lot of things about him that I've been spoiled years before I play Azran legacy (for I had the game but it tooks me age before playing it + from time to time, I found post/video with spoilers)

I think of him as very smooth and very classy. And I thought that his jokes were very funny during the egg quest! (like, I truly laugh for ten minutes in front of my 3DS)

I think of his identity as descole very interesting, for the difference between the two persona intriguing and show how far someone can go for revenge.

I like to think that he truly is Sycamore, and that Descole is a role he created only for his revenge purpose.

- The romantic ships I have for him: I would say him with Dimitri, his canon unknown wife or no one.

The last two are linked together, for I imagine him not being able to find someone else after her death.

If he did, then Dimitri (I really read about the two being a end goal relation in the fic 'Our Scattered Pieces' by @wordsofawanderingsoul and I love the two together!!)

-Non Romantic OTP: Desmond and Hershel and Desmond and Aurora

First, because I love brotherly feels, and I think they deserved to be brother, and I love how the two interacts on the Bostonius before the Acmé of the game!

The second, because somehow, I can imagine him taking Aurora under his wing and developing a father/daughter bond

-My unpopular opinion: Descole is not a split personality or real persona, just a costume he wears to carry on his vengeance.

- what I wish canon would do/did : More interaction with Hershel post story for them to at least get closure.

Or flash backs with his wife and daughter. Or at least a picture of the three together. Would have been much more sadder but... The feels... ❤️✨
