Tumblr media
i like this image because it combine 2/3 images without confusion, and includes creativity.
Tumblr media
I like this image because it shows the difference between the color aspect and the black and white one, both portraying a combination to make one image.
Tumblr media
I like this image because it uses two similar images to make one, and the two images look like a glitch/spirit coming out of a model.
Tumblr media
I like this image because the author creates levitation on cats, furniture and even WATER!
Tumblr media
I like this image because it shows superlatives, it contrast something really small and then something (originally small too) 10 times its size.
Tumblr media
I like this image because it shows a man changing the timezone from day to night with a paintbrush, it redefines aspects on night/day cycle.
Tumblr media
I like this image because it looks to have a mysterious creature/ghost that captures the viewers attention with minimal effort.
Tumblr media
I really like this image because it combines two simple things to make a new extraordinary creation, with a giraffe and a tree.
Tumblr media
I really like this image because it portrays a human sized ped, very miniature and inhumane.
Tumblr media
This image is created without any edits or improvements, and i enjoy the creation of surrealism without edits.
Tumblr media
I like this image because it shows the mans mouth, even though there is a hand where his mouth is desired to be, it makes the hand have a invisible aspect.
Tumblr media
I like this image a lot because it show the Polaroid to be giant, or the human to be minuscule.

The photograph I have chosen to discuss is Napalm Girl taken by Nick Ut.
Nick Ut is a world-renowned photographer. He was born on the 29th of March 1951. He is a photographer for the Associated Press, and has been since he was 16 years old. He got the job after his brother, also a photographer for the Associated Press, was killed in the Vietnam War. He is from French Indochina, which is in South East Asia, but he now lives in LA. The photograph Napalm Girl is a picture of young children running down a road in Vietnam on June 8th 1972. The children all have a look of sheer terror and fear on their faces, and it seems as though they are running away from something horrific.  Behind them are some soldiers, who do not look even slightly phased by what is happening, and who aren’t helping the injured children in any way, but instead herding them down the street like cattle. There is a huge contrast between the two different subjects. The children are helpless and hopeless, screaming for aid. They look small and weak. The soldiers however are tall and powerful, with their guns and helmets. They are not injured and are not conveying any emotion.  In the background, there is a scene of devastation. It is clear that there has been an explosion of some sort. There are clouds of smoke billowing from the ground, and the area looks bleak and damaged. We learn later that this is because the village in the photo has just been napalmed. The main subject in the picture is a naked young girl, who looks like she is in agony. This girl is Kim Phuc. Kim Phuc, at this time, was a nine-year-old girl living with her family in the village of Trang Bang in Vietnam. On this day, the South Vietnamese Air force dropped Napalm bombs on the village, injuring and killing civilians. Kim Phuc was one of the victims. She suffered severe third degree burns from the attack, and two of her infant cousins died as a result of bombing. Nick Ut was there to capture this image as it happened, and little did he know, it would go on to be one of the most famous war images of our time. After he took the picture, he and some other journalists ran to the aid of the children. When they realized the severity of the children’s injuries, they quickly rushed them to hospital in Saigon. When they got to hospital, the doctors thought that her condition was too critical and that she would not survive. She had third degree burns covering half of her body. However, after 14 months in hospital, Kim Phuc made a full recovery. The process wasn’t easy though, the young girl had to undergo 17 surgical procedures while she was there. That year, Nick Ut’s photograph was named the Associated Press picture of the year and also won a highly prestigious Pulitzer Prize. The photo changed the general public's perspective on war, and has been used for decades since as an example of victims of war. The photo also caused a lot of controversy, and there are still arguments about the facts behind the image. Kim Phuc suddenly became some sort of celebrity through no fault of her own, and was used as a tool for propaganda by the Vietnamese years later. She was known as the “national symbol of war”. There have been many articles and even a film made about her story since. After she escaped from the role she was forced to play by her government as the face of war victims, Kim Phuc set up a foundation to help other children who have been affected by war in there countries. The photograph caused a lot of controversy, especially in America. Firstly, there was a conversation with the president of the time, Richard Nixon, and his chief of staff, H. R. Halderman discussing the authenticity of the photo. In the audiotapes of the talk, Nixon says that he thinks the photograph may have been fixed. After the release of these tapes, Nick Ut replied by saying: “The photo was as authentic as the Vietnam war itself. The horror of the Vietnam War recorded by me did not have to be fixed. That terrified little girl is still alive today and has become an eloquent testimony to the authenticity of that photo.” The reason he claimed the photo had been fixed was that he thought the journalists and photographers were trying to make the war look more horrific and dramatic then it actually was. This was not true. The war was just as horrible as those pictures showed, if not worse. And the photo had not been fixed in the slightest. This was very much evident when interviews were had with and stories told about the young girl in the photo. Another issue that was raised about the photo was the fact that there was a naked young girl in it. The photo was taken in the 70s and there had not been images of naked children released before this by the Associated Press, nor by any company for that matter. In the end, the picture was still released, as the image was too important to be hidden from the world. It showed the victims of war, a war that had not before been thought seriously about by anyone else around the world except the victims of it. So even though the sight of the naked young girl should have been an issue, it was over looked, as the story behind the picture itself was far more important. The reason this picture was such an iconic one was that no one had really had to look at the victims of war before this. Because of censorship, footage of war was banned in America and other countries. The Vietnam War, however, was not classified as a real war, so for the first time, people had to see the truth about war in their newspapers and on there television screens. This photograph showed people the devastation that war brought to men, women and children alike. They could finally put a face to the thousands of war victims. Because of this photo, people could no longer hide from the facts. War was not just or fair, it was sick and evil and was hurting innocent people, such as Kim Phuc and the people of her village, who never did anything to provoke the napalm attack, or deserve the devastation they were put through. Since this photo, people have had to reevaluate their thoughts about war, or at least, start thinking about the pain it causes.

Research Task               -‘Paphos Accident’ (extension from Magazine)
The Sierra Leone-flagged EDRO III ran aground off Pegeia on 8 December 2011 in heavy seas, during a voyage to Rhodes, from Limassol, Cyprus with a cargo of plasterboard. At the time of the accident, the ship had nine crew members - seven Albanians and two Egyptians. The crew were rescued and airlifted to the safety of Paphos by a local British Military helicopter. The EDRO III weighs about 2,345 tons and is over 80 meters in length. According to Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association ‘CMEPA’, the ship is empty of all cargo and fuel oil and rests on the sea rocks at an 11-12 degree angle. Embarking on the ship is no longer permitted as it is dangerous. Together with Germany's ‘CIMEXTA’ Vessel Salvage Company, the task of safe removal of all diesel, hydrocarbons and marine pollutants on-board the vessel, and to watertight the hull was awarded to a Cypriot marine salvage company. This was completed in October 2013.

Proposal
1.   What idea do you have for your shoot?
My plan is to go to Cyprus and shoot ‘life behind tourism’
 2.   Why do you want to shoot it?
I want to do this because I think doing this would include different categories for this project, such as wildlife, urban, location rural and documentary.
 3.   For what publication will you be shooting?
For the choice of my location, being in the Mediterranean, I am going to be using National Geographic.
 4.   What are the images going to be about? What article would they accompany?
The images are NOT going to be about tourism, I plan to do the opposite and have a perspective on the residential lives in Paphos, Cyprus.
 5.   What Has Influenced Your Intentions?
My influences have been influenced by knowing the amount of tourism and tourist locations in Cyprus, it is known to be a hot holiday place, and I plan to see it for something else.
 6.   Are you using models?
I will potentially use models but my models will be candid and won’t know of their attendance towards my photography. I am doing candid to define the use of documentary photography.
 7.   What potential problems do you foresee with your shoot/s?
I think I might struggle to get a perfect planned scenario, because I will be in a country I don’t know and I will have to use natural sources 100%.
  8.   What equipment will you need and why?
The equipment I plan to take is my camera, 18-135mm lens.
 9.   What other arrangements and equipment will be needed? (Clothes, permissions etc.)
None
10.When are you planning to take your shoot/s?
I plan to take my shots from the 30th of April until the 6th of May.
 11.What is your plan B?
My plan b is to travel to London and to the same task in mind.

Answer these questions first:
 -          What series are the photographs from?
-          What is the series exploring?
-          What camera did they use and why?
For each photograph answer the following questions:
 -          What is the photograph of?
Tumblr media
-         The image represents a man abandoning his car and is stood in the road looking at something in his hand, surrounded by the rain and a ghost town.
-         I like this because i think it shows multiple stories from one perspective, and leaves the spectator on edge, i think the weather shows pathetic fallacy and is reflecting the mood of the man.
-          i don’t like the use of one story being portrayed, the author should have included some other key features to show more to his designated story to bring the reader on board more.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
what did you do?
My task was to take photos of animals on a local farm, but to have photos that stood out compared to others.
what did you have to think about? behavior, settings etc.
I personally thought about creating eye level angles of the animal i was taking photos of, i did this to capture the sculpture of the animals face and body of the animals with the sun light to create the desired photo i wanted.
All of the photographs are ISO 100, the reason is because we were outside in midday sunlight, and the natural light didn't need high ISO.
this image is of a baby sheep in the focus, and his family in the blur in the background.
i like this shot because it shows a field of view for the baby sheep, and in the desired filed of view, is the infants family.
this image is of a Lesser whistling duck, i luckily got this shot from within 10cm of the duck
i liked the macro in this photo, it defines the colours of the duck and it blurs the background
this image was of the goats eye, i did this shot to capture the unique eye of the goat.
i liked the fact the goat had long hair and it curled around the eye.
this photo was of a chicken, it was shot through chicken wire.
i like this because it shows the chicken wire to be abstract and the blurriness defines the eyeball of the chicken, and its colours.
this photo is of a baby sheep looking up to its mother, alongside his sibling and the green grass in the background.
i liked this photo because of the twinkle and definition in the eye of the cosset, it juxtaposes with the white of his body.
this image was of a lamb looking at her sheep in the distance, with a grassy green background.
this image has a field of view for the sheep, and shows the reflection from her eyes.
these two images are of a Large fluffy goat whom decided to pose by opening his mouth on the first image, and gourning on the second.
i liked this image because of the comedy it carried, it showed the goats personality in a nutshell and can be visualized as personification and humane.
this image is of a baby sheep resting in a tiny ball.
i liked this image because it shows the sheep to be scanty and insecure. this image also shows the size of the infant because of how big the grains off grass look, it defines the size of him.
this image is of a ginger goat that was very intrigued to escape his pen, the background proves this because it shows his fenced area and his head poking through it.
i liked this image because as crazy as the goat was i snapped an image of his calm period where he was looking at something in the distance, i was also impressed with the quality of the hairs on his nose and head.
