Chronicler’s Cipher - Final Version

Here it is! My completed work, attempting to recreate Chronicler’s Cipher from Patrick Rothfuss’ The Kingkiller Chronicle.

I fixed errors, tidied up lines, and got it all on something that looks a bit nicer than my old notebooks. The cipher is functional and covers as wide a variety of sounds as I could reasonably detail. My apologies to the people of the world that the charts rely on English examples.

POINTS TO NOTE

This is meant to capture the sound of what’s being said so you needn’t worry about spelling.

I’m not an expert in linguistics, hardly even a novice. I made this because it seemed nobody else was going to and it’s something I really wanted to exist. So, if you think you can do it better, or improve upon the structure I’ve built, please do!

The goal with Chronicler’s Cipher is to create a a method for transcribing that is faster than written English using a dip pen. Thus, the minimization of pen strokes is prized; turning “Look” from 7 strokes to 3. This, however, means lots of symbols to memorize and new muscle movements to grow accustomed to. The cipher won’t be easier or faster at first, but it’s not meant to be easy and faster comes with practice.

I’ve doubtlessly made mistakes. If you find some, please point them out.

Time to try some new strings (flat wound, wooo!) and do another setup for this damned guitar. The cleaning, restringing, and even intonation setup are something I enjoy... But tuning with that floating bridge is going to be the death of me. The things I do for love... (at Home)

The image quality isn't that great, of course, but for reference: last night visibility was pretty good. I could see the skyline of Los Angeles and her fireworks display without issue (about 15 miles) . This morning I can't even see a shadow of the ABC building in Universal City (about 7 miles). Is that crazy, or what?
