Whims of Wanderlust Meets Blinkit Photography

Team: Jewerly-Whims of Wanderlust | Model-Liz Dee | Assistant-Rebacca Lim
“No, the cover is not a video it’s an animated photo.”
It has been a journey collaborating on this photo editorial with Whims of Wanderlust. We wanted to create something unique for their new website launch. So we decided to bring back the popular 80’s animated gif fad, and put our Blinkit Photography Spin to it. We call it, “Animotionit”.
It may seem it was born in the 1980’s but you have to go back even farther—to 1879 and Eadweard Muybridge’s “zoopraxiscope.” That was the birth of this style, and we wanted to recreate this effect with our style of photography and why not display this art form and introduce it to the world with Whims of Wanderlust, grand opening for their e-commerce website.
The story behind this editorial is the struggle of one’s self, entitled “40 Days in the Desert.
We first had to find an epic location to make this happen. Ceilia and Roger found a majestic location, this literally was a couple of minutes away from our house. Our model, Liz Dee, was a close friend of Cecilia and Roger (owners and creators at Whims of Wanderlust), she had the spirit and experience as an actress to pull the emotion we wanted for this character.
Now that the location and the model was in place, we had to lock in a date. On Friday May 8, 2015 was our date for this shoot, but the weather was against us, dark clouds, chilly temperature, and rain pouring down. So we had to push it the next day. At 6am the following day it was still the same result, but at 9am a small ray of light peaked from the clouds, signaling us to begin our journey.
The hike was a challenge, due to the winds and climbing to the boulder. The view was surreal and peaceful, this was truly the spot for the shoot. After hours of intense photographing, we headed home for some relaxation with the team then to the office for some creative thinking and 375 frames to create this 15 seconds moving image.
Watch our slideshow of our favorites from this shoot.
They are amazing artists and this is their story.
My name is Cecilia and I am a passionate mother, learner of life, and jewelry designer fascinated with all things cosmic. Our shop is an expression of our love of the imagination and eagerness to share a world of peace and higher being through beauty and knowledge. I feel that creation is a powerful gift of man and through it we can heal.
OUR STUDIO is based in Southern California and our team consists of my husband Roger who is a gem fanatic, myself, and our little inspiration and princess Aria. We like to be a part of the process in everything which means hours of sifting for the right gem, cutting and polishing most of our own stones, and creating each piece from the ground up. We believe in the sacredness that this slow process holds and honor that the best things that manifests take time and a lot of care.
THE GOAL for our jewelry line is to re-awaken a sense of wonderment with the natural world and in turn, unleash the potential of universe within. We like to imagine each creation coming from the womb of the Earth and let our hands move in accordance with these visions. They are usually translated into voluptuous goddess forms, rich in texture, and often features unique gemstone specimens. Each piece is carefully crafted and meticulously worked until the piece feels like a nostalgic reminder of our ancient past, something we cannot grasp but can feel is full of magic.
WE HOPE you find something here that connects you to the very core of your being. We hope it reveals to you a profound wisdom, and in turn see that you are a being of God’s light interconnected to everything in the universe.
THANK YOU for joining us on this journey as we learn more about the world and continue to dig deeper and deeper to discover more about ourselves.
Blessings from our family to yours,
Roger, Cecilia, and Aria.

Emrhys Cooper Behind the Scene

   Emrhys Editorial
British born Emrhys Cooper was drawn to performance at a young age. His talent led him to be offered a place at the prestigious Laine Theater Arts College in London, which he graduated from at only 19 years old. He made his debut in London’s West End in the Queen Musical ‘We Will Rock You’ and following in the National Tour of ‘Fame: The Musical’. Emrhys feature film debut in ‘Bright Young Things’ and then in ‘Mamma Mia’, starring legendary Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan, and the role of Henry in the thriller ‘Natasha’
Emrhys was not only an amazing actor but he sings and dances as well. To portray his multiple talents, we had to find a creative location, so we drove around to find that perfect spot. We came upon an abandon warehouse somewhere in Murrieta CA. This place had textures and urban artwork aka (graffiti)  displayed threw out the location.

Treva Etienne plays a character, Dingaan Botha in Falling Skies, on TNT which is produced by Steven Spielberg. We had a blast working with Whims of Wonderlust again, for Treva’s editorial. We also brought along an assistant, Kathyrn Sawyer to help us on our gear and taking some behind the scenes video.
Treva’s credits include Terminator Salvation and Pirates of the Caribbean, on the big screen.

Art Gallery in Old Town Temecula
The City of Temecula community are invested in the artistic, industrial, and historic importance of Old Town Temecula and to raise awareness for the unique hub of creative practices that exists here. Together, local artists were invited for the first ever Art Walk Gallery in Old Town Temecula held Oct. 3rd 2014. We want to thank Gail Zigler, Sr. Recreation Coordinator for City of Temecula and all the volunteers that were involved.  They kicked it off with a great gathering with live music, food, and a cool location in a new high end building, The Truax Tower in Old Town Temecula, CA. We were honored to be picked as featured artists along with other local talents in the area. If you know of any artists that are local to our community that would like to be involved, feel free to contact us and we can send your information to the Mrs. Zigler. They are looking for unique pieces to showcase variety of genres and bring the art community closer to home. 'Till next time keep smiling and dream big.  - Stephanie & Mike

Anime California & The Blinkit Family
Last week our family was invited to be part of the 1st Anime California event as press. Being full time photographers photographing beautiful family portraits and high school senior editorials, we always want to create eye catching images. But the rule of photographing clients is that you need to photograph for the clients and being creative comes 2nd.  To keep driven and artistic as photographers we try to do this with events like the anime community.  We traveled to Garden Groove, CA on Sunday to AC, and took the whole family along.  So for an hour we captured some amazing images from talented cosplayers and designers. But the most exciting moment was when we met Lolita Dark.  They are such down to earth people and we had a couple of minutes to do a quick photo session with them.  -----
We want to thank Anime California, Lolita Dark, All Naruto California Cosplay Gatherings, and a big thank you to Antonia and Caroline for getting a hold of us to meet up and do some photo sessions with them and their group.

Shark Week - Attack of the Great White
SHARK WEEK MADNESS   Shark Week is always an action packed week, that we loved to watch as a family.  So to celebrate Shark Week 2104,  we want to share these images.  If you've been in our events and/or vendor booth, this is metallic print should be familiar to you. We always get a laugh and smiles when viewers pass by it. The first image was from one of our family portrait (the Allar Family). Their son, Joey loved fishing, so we decided to change it up and have him catch a shark. After they saw the final image printed on our Metallic Wall Decor, they decided to create a theme for his room.   The second image was actual photographed and photoshopped last year, but we've forgot to post it and we waited for a YEAR! We wanted to create a landscape style, with a little of fantasy since the piece was build with various landscapes. Stay tuned Aug 10, for Shark Week and try not to get wet. http://www.discovery.com/tv-shows/shark-week/#!/

Street Painting Meets Blinkit Photography
Creative Minds in Temecula
On June 20-22, 2014 was the Temecula Art Festival  including The Ralph Love Plein Air Festival, which provides a glimpse into the technique required of the artists painting “en plein air” which means “in open air” took place in Temecula CA, in Southern California. http://temeculaevents.org/artfestival/ With various vendors that ranges from hand crafted jewelry and oil paintings, to other creative products. But it was all about the Street Painters, which took part on Friday 9 am and continued up to Sunday afternoon. Being a location lifestyle and editorial photographers, our creativity was on overdrive because of all the unique painting. High school seniors and family portraits photographs are more personal and fun. This is want makes us different, we add our artistic minds to every client we photograph. Street Painting originated in Britain and was spreading over the United Kingdom. The artists were given pastels to create their own paintings by using the asphalt as their canvas. We’ve met a couple of the artists and wanted to create a blend of stressing painting and our photography into an new art piece.
Behind The Images To make things even difficult, we didn’t know what each street painter was going to create until the middle of Friday. We’ve contacted Julie to model for one of the painting and Destiny to do the make up and hair. Julie Michelle is actually a makeup artist and is pursing a model career as she is finishing up her studies as a makeup and hairstylist at blah blah. We’ve met her on one of our editorial for Radii Wear and worked with her in other projects throwout the years. Destiny Alvarez was introduced to us to our close friend Rowena, owner of, The Power Room in Old Town Temecula. She is just a pleasure to work with and we’ve put her to work as a model as well that day. Whim of Wanderlust, is a husband and wife team, that creates hand crafted jewelry and unique paintings. Cecilia and Roger was our next door neighbor at the event and wanted to do some quick editorial with their jewelry designs.

The Myth Masque
Share
Tweet
On May 24, 2014 we were invited to be part of an extraordinary event. Held at the world famous and exclusive Los Angeles Theatre, a historical location which opened in 1931. The Myth Masque events are always one of the most anticipated events of the year. There was amazing talented performers and the attendees came decked out in their most impressive costumes.
To enter the masquerade, we had to dress up, so with the help of our dear friend, Denise, who also took some video footages with our handy flip, (and for a small handheld first generation video camera, it still impressed us how it handled the low light in the venue). We were able to gear up for a fun filled night of amazing performances and costumes. I had to get rid of my leather hood costume since it was so warm inside the theater.  The number of people in attendance was overwhelming, and our biggest issue was trying to hide the guests from showing up in the editorial images we were trying to produce, so we found small unique/quiet areas and used our flashes and smartphones for our lighting.
Enjoy our slideshow.

Digital Daggers
Blinkit is excited to meet the band behind the music of popular TV Shows that you watch. Digital Daggers was first introduced to us when Stephanie, my wife, clicked on the Vampire Diaries on Hulu. In my mind, I was saying to myself, "not another Twilight." But after watching a couple of episodes, I got hooked as well. The colors and cinematic scenes was our style of photography. Then the song, Head over Heels, started to play and that is how we found out about the band Digital Daggers. Other shows like Star Crossed, Pretty Little Liars, and other CW shows started to use their songs as their music score. Digital Dagger's connection and emotional melody is what makes them unique.  “WE TRY TO USE AS MANY ORGANIC SOUNDS AS POSSIBLE,” Space says. The creative duo, Space and Andrea both write all the lyrics and melodies together. We are excited to photograph amazing talent like Digital Daggers. Can't wait to meet the duo behind the music scoring of almost all the TV Shows we watch. Stay tuned on our photo shoot with Space and Andrea of Digital Daggers.

Recycled Art Show
The Recycled Art Show in Temecula, Ca is a fundraiser with partial proceeds benefiting Mt. San Jacinto College art department, located in Menifee, Ca. Models strutting the runway with their wearable art and fashions constructed by all recycled materials.
Last year we had time to create eye catching editorial images, but due to the wind which lead us to hold down our booth and timing, we were able to only photograph a couple of the fabulous one of a kind recycled attires.
Enjoy the slideshow of the images we captured that night at the Recycled Art Show.
Contact us if you were part of the show so we can send you images for all your hard work.

Blinkit Goes Back To School at Murrieta Valley High School
Last week we had the pleasure of revisiting Stephanie's (my wife's) High School to talk about storytelling and how to direct your team to capture your vision. As you know we specialize in editorial and high school senior photos so this was a great experience for the both of us, not only to teach but connect with the students of Murrieta Valley High School. Murrieta Valley High School Opened in 1990 as the city's first four-year comprehensive high school, located in Murrieta, California. The high school had added new buildings, but the spirit of Murrieta Vally High School is still as strong as she remembered. We were invited by Rebecca Lam, February Student of The Month, and introduced us to the class. We both kind of geeked out since the class was based on Macs. Our presentation was about storytelling, how to elevate the production value, and directing the models, crew, etc. We then took the class outside to do a mini session with a couple of the students as models in the class and handed out our Nikon D90. YES, NIkon D90. We told them that we first started with our D90 for our commercial and fashion projects. We wanted to teach them that sometimes its not the equipment that makes the images but the creator's eyes and vision. Enjoy the behind the scenes - Mike & Stephanie -
Garrett Schwenk Testimonial
Having BlinkIt Photography come to school was a great experience for us as students! In the short time they were here, as a class we learned so much and had a lot of fun being apart of the small projects we worked on. Michael and Stephanie are very kind and funny people to work with, and the images taken will be something we can look back on and remember as a great learning experience we shared as students. Thank You BlinkIt Photography for taking the time to teach us more than what photography is just seen as an simple image.
