Causes, Natural remedies, and treatments for Heavy and Longer periods
What is a Heavy Period?
A heavy period is unusually heavy flow periods or longer periods that last more than 7 days and they are medically termed as “Menorrhagia”. This is not a common problem and they are sometimes caused by minor health issues.
Your flow is so heavy that you will need to change your pad every one hour. You may have cramps and they can stop your usual activities. Many women have suffered from heavy flow and cramps when they have a period.
Common causes of heavy period
Most of the women with heavy bleeding are found to have no underlying reason. The ovaries can also cause heavy bleeding, and there are several conditions included.
1. Hormone Imbalance
In a normal period cycle, the balance between the hormones – estrogen, and progesterone regulates the buildup of lining the uterus, which is shed during the period. The hormone imbalance causes the development of endometrium in an excessive manner and eventually sheds by way of heavy menstrual bleeding. If your body doesn’t release an egg from the ovary, this is a hormone balance too, leading to the thicker lining and heavy bleeding.
2. Hypothyroidism
The underactive thyroid can make your period heavy, very light, or irregular without sufficient thyroid hormone. Your ovaries are not able to make enough of the period flow thereby decreasing the blood flow and this is called hormone progesterone. The thyroid problem can also cause your period to stop for long months with a condition called amenorrhea.
3. Polyps
Benign growths within the lining of your uterus(uterine polyps) are polyps. The problem can make your period heavy and long.
4. Uterine fibroid
The noncancerous tumors of the uterus occur during your childhood. Uterine fibroid can cause a heavy or long period of bleeding.
5. Intrauterine Device (IUD).
Most women use the small intrauterine device for birth control. It makes your period heavy because your IUD doesn’t have hormones.
6. Cancer of the womb
Cancer of the uterus, cervix, or ovary can cause heavy bleeding in some women, it may appear rarely especially postmenopausal.
7. Bleeding Disorder
This is not a common problem for women but bleeding disorders appear in families. It makes it hard to control your bleeding when they have stopped. They can make a woman’s period heavy and make it longer.
8. Pelvic inflammatory disease
PID infection is caused in the upper genital tract. It causes the symptoms like pelvic, abdominal pain, bleeding after sex, vaginal discharge, and heavy bleeding.
9. Medications
Some medications include anti-inflammatory properties. Hormonal medications like estrogen and progestins and anticoagulants such as warfarin or enoxaparin can make bleeding heavy and long.
10. Other medical conditions
Several other medical conditions are also included such as liver, heart, or kidney problems that may be contributing to heavy periods.
Home and Natural Remedies Can Help?
There are a few things we can do at home to reduce your heavy flow and get your period cycle back in the normal way
1. Hydrate
If you have been bleeding heavily for more than 5 days your blood volume gets low. So drink at least 4 to 6 cups of water extra each day. It can help your body to try and increase blood volume. Gatorade or add more salt to your diet to balance the extra fluid drinking.
2. Vitamin C
Vitamin-c helps to absorb iron in your body and it can help to prevent anemia. You will find fruits like oranges, kiwi, broccoli, tomato juice, and some other rich food containing vitamin-c.
3. Iron
When bleeding occurs your body will automatically lose iron. Your body needs iron to produce hemoglobin. The molecule helps red blood cells to carry oxygen. Heavy periods can lead your body to iron deficiency anemia.
Iron foods like lean beef, beans, chicken, spinach, etc… can help control heavy periods.
Treatments for Heavy Flow
1. Birth control pills
Birth control pills can balance hormones in your body, which can end your heavy period. Getting an IUD gives hormones is another choice that can control your bleeding.
2. Drugs
Consult your doctor may be prescribed medications to reduce the heavy bleeding. you need to take the drugs only when you experience heavy periods.
3. Surgery
Consult your doctor, suppose you find any polyps or fibroids, you can have them removed. It may help to stop heavy bleeding.
4. Removing the lining of your uterus
There are some doctors who suggest this. The simple way is called dilation and curettage(D&c), it removes the outer layer of the lining of your uterus. It can also stop your heavy bleeding.
5. Hysterectomy
In some cases, you need this surgery, it will remove your uterus. But you won’t have a period and also you won’t be able to get pregnant.
Message to bliss pads
About 50% of the women experience heavy bleeding, it’s completely normal and nothing to panic . If you can’t control your heavy bleeding using some home or natural remedies and if you have any complications, immediately consult your doctor for various treatments for heavy bleeding and also check your health and test your body with a doctor.

Breast Sagging — Things that every woman must know
The sagging of breasts is a common condition in women. The change in women’s breasts is a natural process, but it can lower their self-confidence. It is an upsetting thing for them as it impacts the way they look and their beauty.
Breast Sagging is also called Breast Ptosis. Women always long for perky breasts, but the sad truth is that sagging is just part of life.
There are so many misconceptions about the factors that cause breast sagging. Continue reading to find out the real causes, ways to prevent, and how you can deal with drooping breasts.
Causes of Breast Sagging
Female breasts consist of ligaments called Cooper’s Ligaments. These ligaments are responsible for lifting and supporting the breasts. But due to many factors, these ligaments can stretch out, resulting in saggy breasts.
Age
Aging is one of the main reasons for breast sagging, and unfortunately, no woman can escape from it. When a woman grows older, the breast tissue loses its elasticity which causes the ligaments to stretch out and leading to wrinkled, saggy, and deflated breasts.
Menopause
During the menopause stage, a woman’s body undergoes many hormonal changes. The female reproductive hormone estrogen will stop secreting, which impacts the elasticity of the breast skin. Thus, the effects of saggy breasts are more evident during the menopause period.
Smoking
Smoking is not only bad for the lungs, but it is also bad for the breasts. The cigarettes contain carcinogens that are responsible for the breakdown of elastin fibers. When these fibers break down, the elasticity of the skin loosens throughout the body. Because of this, the breasts become saggy.
Gravity
The gravitational force works like a charm and constantly pulls the breasts downwards. So, the breasts start to droop easily over time. The gravity work, without any partiality on both smaller and larger breasts, but larger breasts tend to wilt simply due to the higher mass.
Weight Loss or Gain
Sudden weight loss or gain is another reason for saggy breasts. Variations in body weight can cause the breast tissues to stretch and reducing the elasticity of its skin. Hence the result is hanging and wrinkled breasts.
Wearing Unfit Bras
Wearing bras that are not a perfect fit and do not support your boobs properly can be a major reason for breast drooping. Unnecessary stress on the breast tissue can break the elastin fibers leading to sagging breasts.
Does Breastfeeding cause Breast Sag?
Even though World Breastfeeding Week is observed from 1 August to August 7 of every year, misconceptions around breastfeeding still exist. The fact is that breastfeeding doesn’t cause breast sagging, whereas pregnancy is the culprit here. A woman’s body undergoes many changes during pregnancy to prepare her breasts for breastfeeding by enlarging them. Once the baby is born the breasts are filled with milk, stretching the skin even bigger. After the nursing period is over, the breast becomes empty and it may return to the original size, or remain big, or it may even become smaller. When the breasts are dried up, because of the shrinking the breasts may appear shapeless and floppy.
These developments occur even if you are not breastfeeding, the more times you get pregnant, the droopier your breasts will become. Hence, your decision on whether to breastfeed or not breastfeed doesn’t impact breast sagging.
Treatment for Breast Sagging
The most common method for treating saggy breasts is surgery. Plastic surgeries have become more generic these days, and the surgeons use the Regnault Classification method to measure the level of ptosis, based on which they recommend different surgical interventions. Some of the popular surgical procedures are:
Breast Lift
Breast Augmentation
Mastectomy
Ways to Prevent Saggy breasts
There are no proven ways to prevent breast sagging. As various factors influence this condition, breast sagging can never be completely avoided. But you can try some tips, which can improve the firmness of breasts, and reduce the risk of saggy breasts.
Maintain a Proper Healthy Weight – Always maintain a constant healthy weight by including a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle. Avoid losing or rapidly gaining weight. This will help you to prevent your breasts from sagging.
Quit Smoking – Smoking triggers the breast ligaments to break, causing the breast to lose its firmness. So, to avoid accelerating your aging process and breast sagging, stop smoking.
Hormone Supplements – The level of estrogen can be increased with the help of supplements. But, make sure you get a proper hormone test and doctor’s consultation to avoid unnecessary complications.
Think Before You Conceive – Multiple pregnancies can take a toll on your breast tissues. If you decide that firm breasts are greater than developing your family, then rethink before you get pregnant.
Comfortable And Well-Fitting Bras – The unfit bras can cause adverse effects on sagging than not wearing a bra at all. So, choose a well-fit bra, especially when you do workouts and jogging. Sports bras with proper support can restrict breast movement and reduce the tensions on the breast tissues.
Do Workouts Prevent Sagging?
Exercises have no impact on your breasts because breasts are not made up of muscles. Instead, you can work on the pectoral muscles which are present underneath your breasts. Workouts like push-ups, chest presses, and butterfly curls can enhance the appearance of your chest and increase your overall health.
Message from Bliss Naturals
Breast Sagging is inevitable, so accepting the changes in your breasts is the best way to make peace with your mind. What you see in media, TV, or magazines are unrealistic, photoshopped, and fake images. Comparing your natural looks with those unlikely aspects is futile. Be thankful and happy for the great things for which your breasts are responsible. Have a healthy diet, maintain a proper body mass, and exercise regularly to preserve your overall well-being. A healthy lifestyle will improve your breast health along the way.

Ways to get rid of Dark Underarms
Are your sleeveless dresses, and off-shoulder tops are sleeping in the wardrobe? Are you always frightened that someone might catch a glimpse of your underarm? Do you want to showcase your dance skills, but afraid to lift your arms in front of people? Do you like winter, because you can cover your underarms beneath the sweaters? Do you love water, but embarrassed to go in, because your swimsuits would show off your dark underarms? It is high time that you get rid of the fears that affect your self-esteem and confidence and focus on the treatments and remedies to lighten those dark underarms.
The darkening of the armpits alone is just a simple cosmetic issue and you would be able to address this issue on your own. But along with discoloration if you are finding any other symptoms like the thick or velvety texture of the skin, then this might indicate some serious trouble and you have to consult a dermatologist for some help.
Causes of the Dark Underarms
Before proceeding to the treatments and remedies we might want to know the factors which are causing the dark underarms. There are some surprising things that you never imagined, are responsible for the darkening of your underarms. The Harmful Deodorants – The skin of your underarms is delicate. Some deodorants can irritate this area developing darker skin. People with dark complexions are more prone to this issue. The Naughty Hormones – An imbalance in the hormone secretion can cause skin discoloration, this condition is called “melasma”. This condition is most common among pregnant women or those who are under hormonal birth control. The Side-Effects of Medicines – Some medications like nicotinic acid, insulin, corticosteroids, and diethylstilbesterol are known to cause darker underarms. But the discoloration caused by these drugs isn’t dangerous and does not denote any underlying medical problem. The Dead Skin Cells – When the dead cells accumulate in the armpits, they increase the pigmentation process. If you do not exfoliate your underarms regularly, then it will result in dark patches because of hyperpigmentation. The Bad Shaving – Shaving only removes the top layer of your hair. So, if your hair color is darker than your skin tone, your skin might also appear dark. Another reason is the irritation caused by the razor which leads to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, causing dark underarms. The Acanthosis Nigricans – Acanthosis Nigricans (AN) is a skin condition where one or more areas of your skin darken and thicken, sometimes the damaged skin will have a velvety touch. It can happen in the underarms and other areas of the body like the back of the neck, your elbows, and knees, or even beneath your breasts. AN can also be a potential indicator of life-threatening diseases like diabetes or cancer. The Insulin Resistance – The Acanthosis Nigricans (AN) is an early sign of Type 2 Diabetes, in which the body does not produce the required amount of insulin. In this case, your neck will be the first area to darken before your underarms. If the discoloration happens quickly along with the other symptoms of insulin resistance, contact your doctor as soon as possible. Cancer – In rare conditions, the darker armpits symbolize cancer in the stomach, liver, or other internal organs of your body. This condition is called malignant acanthosis nigricans. The discoloration disappears once the malignant tumors are removed from the body.
Risk Factors
Following are some of the risk factors which are likely to increase the chances of darker underarms. Knowing some of these might help in preventing its recurrence in the future.
• The dark complexion of skin • Obesity • Diabetes or Insulin Resistance • Shaving and plucking too often • A blood relative with this condition • Tight fit clothes • Birth Control Pills
Treatments to Remove Dark Underarms
Our underarms are analogous to eyelid skin, they get irritated easily and the irritation produces excess pigmentation. In addition to this, the underarms skin folds onto itself, increasing the absorption of any product applied in that area. In order to achieve some improvement without further irritation, a delicate balance is required. Minimizing the irritation should be the priority in lightening your underarms, which can result in reduced pigmentation and the following are some of the treatments which focus on the same.
Treat your Underarm Rashes First
The treatments for lightening your dark armpits are not effective until the rashes are taken care of. A rash is the inflammation of your skin with redness, itching, local roughness, or flakiness. The possible causes of the inflammation are,
Psoriasis
Eczema
Fungal infections
Allergy contact dermatitis like nickel from deodorant
Once the issue is controlled, the whitening treatments can be started.
Use Gentle Exfoliants
The physical pressure of scrubbing is more likely to cause irritation and worsen the problem. Instead of that, use a gentle combination of chemical and physical exfoliators into your routine a few times a week. The effective ingredients of this treatment are lactic, glycolic, and salicylic acid.
Optimized Shaving Routine
Shaving without a shaving cream can cause irritation, itching, and rashes. To prevent this, use moisturizing shaving cream, and also replace your razor blades frequently to avoid the dull blades rubbing along the skin.
If you are allergic to razor blades, you can opt for waxing or laser hair removal.
Switch to Hypoallergenic Deodorants
The number of people with dark underarms is on the rise recently due to the increase in the popularity of natural deodorants. These deodorants are highly fragranced and some people develop allergies to plant-based fragrances. The Symptoms of these allergies are redness and itching. Some people experience irritation and rash from excessive sweat.
The natural deodorants consist of sodium bicarbonate which causes hyperpigmentation without any rashes. So, if you notice the darkening of your underarms after trying a new deodorant, consider replacing it with a hypoallergenic antiperspirant or a deodorant without sodium bicarbonate.
Consider Laser and Micro-needling Treatments
If the above treatments are not effective, the procedural-based approach is a better option. You can choose micro-needling or chemical peels, or laser therapy to brighten your dark underarms. But remember these procedures will require multiple visits to see significant improvement.
Also, dermatologists do not recommend home chemical peels, because the underarms’ skin is a very sensitive area and it is best if you leave it in the hands of a professional.
Try Hyperpigmentation Serums with Caution
The regular hyperpigmentation serums which you use for your face can also be used to whiten the dark underarms. But you should be very cautious as the absorption will be greater in your armpits because of the skin folds. You can start it slowly by applying twice a week and gradually increase its frequency every week. Apply a very thin layer to your underarms and allow it to dry before lowering your hand.
Tips to get rid of Dark Underarms:
There are some natural, safe, and cost-effective home remedies or tips to remove the dark underarms.
Baking Soda
Baking soda scrapes off dead skin cells and gives way for clear skin.
Mix baking soda with water or rose water to make a grainy paste and apply it to your underarms in smooth circular motions. Repeat this thrice a week.
Slice of Lemon
Lemons are highly acidic which lightens the dark underarms.
Slice a lemon in half and rub the slices on your underarms for 2 minutes. Leave it for few minutes and wash it off with cool water.
Potatoes
Potatoes are not acidic. Hence it is the best remedy for people with sensitive skin. This treatment might be slow but gives the desired results.
You can cut the potatoes into slices rub them onto the skin of your underarms. Leave it for ten minutes, wash it with lukewarm water, and dry it. You can do this remedy twice a day.
Cucumber
Cucumber is a cooling agent that also has bleaching properties.
Pick a slice of a cucumber and scrub it on your skin. After 10 minutes of waiting time, wash it and pat dry. Repeat twice a day.
Orange Peels
Orange peels are not only a bleaching agent but can also act as a natural deodorant and remove strong odor.
Leave the peels of some oranges to dry for a day under the sun and grind them to powder. Mix this powder with rose water and milk and apply this paste to the skin. You can scrub it for about 15 minutes before washing it off with cold water. Do this thrice a week.
Milk
Milk is a universally accepted beauty product that can also fight the dark underarms.
Mix 3 tablespoons of milk with a little gram of flour, and a pinch of turmeric in a bowl to make a paste out of it. Scrub this paste on your underarm skin for ten minutes and leave it to dry. Then rinse it with cold water and pat dry your skin. Repeat this thrice a week.
Curd
You can also use yogurt to lighten your underarms. It also kills the odorous bacteria and neutralizes body scent.
Mix curd with a few drops of honey to form a paste. Gently apply it to your underarms and scrub it. After few minutes wash, pat dry, and repeat thrice a week.
Toothpaste
We are not kidding! But make sure you use only white toothpaste since the coloured ones have chemicals that can cause itching to your delicate underarm skin. Toothpaste, known for its bleaching properties along with Matcha Green Tea, an antioxidant to remove the dead skin cells and unclog the pores, are used for whitening the dark underarms.
Combine white toothpaste and green tea powder well and apply the mixture to the armpits. After 10 minutes wipe it off.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar has bleaching properties that brighten the skin and also prevent infections caused by bacteria by killing the germs that feed on the dead skin cells.
Take a half cup of rice flour and add apple cider vinegar to make a thick paste. Scrub it for 15 minutes and then wash and pat dry. Repeat thrice a week.
How to Prevent My Underarms from darkening?
Following are some of the ways to prevent your armpits from becoming darker than usual.
If some medication is causing the issue, then you can ask your doctor to replace his prescription.
Shaving makes the area harder and darker. You should think of some other hair removal options or use moisturizing shaving creams before shaving and a moisturizing lotion after shaving.
Obesity is an indirect cause of darker underarms. So, try to maintain a healthy weight.
Avoid using deodorants containing harsh chemicals.
Message from Bliss Naturals
The underarms are the most sensitive and delicate skin of your body. Hence there is no faster way to solve this problem and rushing the treatments will only deteriorate the issue by causing irritation and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. So, breathe, chill and remember that the key to lightening your dark underarms is to keep the area clean and healthy.

Think thoroughly about your delivery options, fix a specific ob-gyn and clarify your doubts and expectations in advance.
Apply for your maternity leave and delegate your jobs beforehand, this will ensure a smooth transition away from, and back to, work
Month 7 – Enjoy your Baby Shower
Indians have a special tradition in which the expecting mother is blessed by the elders by putting glass bangles on her hand. It is a belief that the baby can know the presence of the mother by hearing the noise made by the bangles.
The baby shower is celebrated by family and friends in other cultures too, people bring gifts for both mother and baby. But in India, it is considered inauspicious to buy clothes or gifts for the unborn baby. So, gifts are only for the would-be mothers!
The love and support from their family and friends create a positive impact and boost their confidence.
Make sure to eat healthy foods and rest well during this 3rd trimester.
Month 8 – Read to Gather Knowledge
Reading pregnancy-related books and new born baby guides can help you to gain knowledge on what to expect. This will help you not to get panic in the infamous labor process.
You will start seeing stretch marks this month. Drinking lots of water and fluids and stay hydrated to reduce the growth of stretch marks. You can also lubricate your skin by using coconut oil.
Your feet may get swollen during this month. Do not stand for a long period and rest as much as you can.
Decide a place for your new-born and their things like a crib, toys, clothes, etc.,
Month 9 – Prepare for Labor
Finish packing your hospital bag. Do not forget the clothes, toiletries, and cell phone chargers.
Get help from your friends and family to provide you with food or any other support you require in emergencies.
You can go into labor at any time from now, so make plans for your other kids or pets and decide who will take care of them when you’re in the hospital.
Be relaxed and wait for the big moment to receive the little one safely into this world.

Breast Abscess – Symptoms, Causes, Treatment, and Prevention
Breast abscesses can occur as a result of untreated Mastitis, which is an infection of the breast. A pocket in any part of the body with the collection of pus is called an Abscess. A breast abscess refers to painful, and swollen pus-filled lumps that form in the skin of the breast.
Breast Abscesses are common in women who are breastfeeding, but they can affect any woman aged between 15 to 45 years. It is very important to see a health practitioner to treat abscesses to prevent recurring infections.
Symptoms of Breast Abscess
An abscess can look like breast cancer or an infected cyst. The most common symptoms of breast abscesses are:
Painful, swollen, and hot red mass on the breast
Presence of nipple duct opening
Chills and fever
Nausea and vomiting
Sometimes you might notice an inverted nipple
Nipple drainage
Less milk production
Discharge from the nipple
Causes of Breast Abscess
Breast Abscesses are often caused because of bacterial infections. The bacteria responsible for this infection are Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus.
In lactating mothers, these bacteria can easily enter their breasts through the crack in their nipples or areolas.
Mastitis can occur in nursing mothers when there is a blockage in their milk ducts. If mastitis is not treated properly, then it will progress as an abscess.
Breast Abscess can also occur in women who are not breastfeeding if they have injured breast skin, cracked or pierced nipples, undergone a breast implant surgery, or have diabetes and a low immune system.
It is not a hereditary disease and does not spread from one person to another. It also doesn’t pose any risk of infection to new-born infants.
Risk Factors for Breast Abscess
The factors which increase the chances of infection in breastfeeding women are
Very tight bras can put pressure on milk ducts
Lack of consistent feeding schedule
Missing out on breastfeeding sessions
Depression and anxiety in new mothers
Weaning the baby from breastfeeding in a very short time
The risk factors of breast abscesses in women who are not breastfeeding includes
Being obese
Previous history of breast abscess
Inflammatory breast cancer
Smoking
Women in the childbearing age
Diagnosis of Breast Abscess
The breast abscess can be diagnosed by physical examinations and through some tests.
Ultrasound may be done to check whether the mass is caused by a tumor or by an abscess.
Breast milk or pus inside the abscess is taken through a syringe to examine the type of organism that is causing the infection. This helps the doctor in deciding the antibiotic for the treatment.
Breast biopsy or mammogram is done on the women who are not breastfeeding, or on the women who do not respond to the treatment, because a rare type of breast cancer can produce the symptoms of mastitis.
Treatment for Breast Abscess
If the mastitis is found early, oral antibiotics can be used to cure the infection. Your doctor will prescribe the specific antibiotic based on your allergies and which is safe to use while breastfeeding.
In the presence of an abscess, the pus should be drained. The doctor can do this procedure either with a needle and syringe or by using a small incision. Anesthesia might be administered to you to reduce the pain.
In case of a deep abscess, surgical drainage in the operating room is required.
In non-breastfeeding women, recurrent or chronic abscess is a serious problem. They should closely follow up with their doctor to prevent any major complications.
The Road to Recovery
In 40% to 50% of cases, the breast abscesses can come back. So, you should never miss the recheck-up visits with your doctor. Early diagnosis and treatment with antibiotics can prevent the need for surgery.
Consume the full course of antibiotics as prescribed by your doctor.
Watch closely for any signs of chills or fever. Immediate physician attention is required in such cases.
Visit your doctor if you develop a high fever, increase in redness, swelling, vomiting, or pain in the breast area.
Closely follow-up with your doctor to make sure the infection has completely gone away. If the abscess develops again, you might require IV antibiotics or surgery.
How to Prevent Breast Abscess?
Lactating women are more susceptible to breast infections and sometimes it is unavoidable. But following some good hygiene practices can reduce the risk of infection.
To prevent any engorgement or blocked ducts, empty the breasts completely.
Wear loose-fitting clothes and allow the sore or cracked nipples to dry in the air.
Apply moisturizer to the nipples to cover the cracked nipples. This can avoid the entry of bacteria into that area.
Breastfeeding should be done equally from both breasts.
Consult a lactation specialist to know the proper breastfeeding techniques. Poor breastfeeding methods can lead to sore breasts.
Drink plenty of fluids and water to prevent dehydration.
Follow proper hygiene routines like frequent washing of your hands and cleaning the nipples before and after breastfeeding.
Avoid smoking or other tobacco products.
Maintain a proper healthy weight.
Message from Bliss Naturals
If the breast abscess is not given proper care and treatment, it may lead to serious complications like scarring, chronic pain, recurrent episodes, disfigurement, and organ failure. A deep breast abscess can prevent the breastfeeding women from continuing to nurse. So, do not ignore the symptoms and consult your doctor within 24 hours to avoid these complications. Strictly follow the treatment plan advised by your health professional and do miss the follow-up visits to reduce the risk of serious medical issues.

Is it Normal to Have Hair on Nipples? Why Does it Happen?
Women stress so much about their body hair growth, they shave their underarms, wax their legs, and pluck their eyebrows. Worrying for fur-free, smooth skin persists for women’s lifetime along with spending lots of money, effort, and time in removing their bodily hair.
But what about the thin, lengthy, and curly hair on your nipples? No, we are not talking about those flimsy hairs around your breast, but those dark and easily seen long hair precisely on your nipples.
Is it a normal thing to have hair on the boobs? Or does it indicate an underlying medical condition? Do you have to take it lightly or do you have to freak out?
We homo sapiens are designed to have hair follicles all over our body to regulate our body’s temperature, and hairy nipples are a common condition in women.
You can switch off the panic button as you are not the only one who has areolas with hair. Reports say that more than 30% of the female population have hairy nipples, but many are unaccounted for since many women feel embarrassed to admit their hairy nipples.
In most women, the hairy nipples are a normal phase of their bodily changes. But occasionally they might be a sign of a problem that needs your health practitioner’s attention.
Causes of hairy nipples in women
There are few underlying causes that lead to the growth of hair in the nipples. Most of them are very common, while some of them are upsetting.
Fluctuation of Hormones
It is not a surprise to learn that hormonal fluctuations lead to new hair growth in the areas you never imagined.
Puberty triggers hormonal changes that support the transition of a child to a woman, including breast development and growing of hair in the parts like underarms, vagina, face, and umbilical cord area is a part and parcel of that period. Similarly, it is absolutely natural for some women to have hair on their nipples and the area around their breasts.
If you are a carrying mother and notice new or abnormal hair growth in the areolas, then it is again due to the hormone fluctuations caused by the pregnancy. The hair growth may reduce or disappear once the baby is born.
Menopause is another stage when women face the falling in levels of the female hormone, oestrogen. Many women experience new hair growth on their face and chest areas including the nipples, during this time.
Very subtle hormonal changes can occur in a woman’s body during their 20’s and 30’s, which can change the appearance of the hairs or lead to new growth.
Excess Production of Male Hormones
In some women, androgens (male hormones) such as testosterone are produced at a high level, which causes hair growth in uncertain places like nipples. When there is too much testosterone and not enough oestrogen to balance it out, she might have hair on her boobs.
The other symptoms caused by the male hormones are
Abnormal periods or absence of periods (amenorrhea)
Overgrowth of skeletal muscle mass
Acne and oily skin
Hair loss on your head leading to baldness
A simple testosterone test by your doctor can confirm this condition.
Certain Medications
Some medications like contraceptive pills, glucocorticoid steroids, and some immunosuppressants cause unusual hair growth on the areolas as a side-effect.
PCOS and Nipple Hair
One of the main symptoms of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is excess and unusual hair growth in unusual places (hirsutism). The wiry hairs on your nipple might be a signal for some serious condition if you also experience the following symptoms:
Ovarian cysts
Mood swings
Inability in conceiving
Irregular menstrual cycle
Mental health disorders
Obesity
Cushing’s Syndrome and Nipple Hair
Another worrying cause for the hairy nipple is Cushing’s Syndrome. This condition is characterized by the surplus levels of cortisol in the body due to the prolonged intake of glucocorticoid steroids, or because of tumours in the lung, brain, or adrenal glands.
Cushing’s Syndrome is a rare disorder and its symptoms are similar to that of PCOS like
Excess hair growth
High blood pressure
Big stretch marks
Easy bruising
A build-up of fat in some areas of the body like chest, tummy, back of the neck, and shoulders
Red and puffy face
Should you visit a doctor for the hairy nipples?
In most women, the presence of nipple hairs is a normal state and does not require a visit to your doctor. But if you are experiencing sudden hair growth in the nipples along with some unusual symptoms like abnormal or absence of a menstrual cycle, weight gain, or mood swings, then you should see the doctor. He/she can determine whether it could be an indication of some underlying medical issues like PCOS, or Cushing’s Syndrome.
In addition, your doctor may offer some advice on safe ways to remove the unwanted hair without the risk of infections or any other complications.
Message from Bliss Naturals
Your boobs, your bliss! There is nothing to feel ashamed of or bothered about some strands of hair on your nipples. Many women compare their bodies with the actresses or models shown in the films/TV and dream for the same. But they forget to understand that the flawless bodies shown by them are artificial and man-made. So, give some rest to agonizes and do whatever is feasible and convenient for you.

Sex during pregnancy, Is it Safe to Have Sex during pregnancy?
Pregnancy is a gift for the love of a couple. It is a beautiful feeling for the expecting parents to know their gift will soon grow into a little human with tiny fingers and toes.
There are so many things to anticipate, from morning sickness, doctor’s appointment, scans, back pain and swollen ankles to the pain of delivery and yet these do not stop the parents in wanting the best for their baby.
Couples often wonder whether they can have physical intimacy when they are pregnant. Will having sex harm their little one? Will their physical love cause miscarriage?
So many questions, concerns along with discomfort and exhaustion. Is having sex during pregnancy safe? The answer is Yes! It is completely safe.
However, for many women the sexual desires change during the time of pregnancy. Some may feel off and do not want to have sex. Some may feel strong sexual desire due to the hormonal changes.
These sudden changes of sexual drive are completely normal.
Sex During Pregnancy is safe
Sex is completely safe, when you have a normal pregnancy. Normal pregnancy is where there are no complications of preterm labor and miscarriages. But it is always better to receive a green signal from your doctor before you assume it on your own.
For some women sex during the gestation period will feel totally different from what they would have experienced before. It may be an enjoying experience for some expecting mothers. Because of the engorged genitals some expecting mothers will experience an increase in sensitivity causing more intense orgasms. Others can hate it so much because of the uneasiness and discomfort due to their large belly.
Love making during pregnancy times can be a relief for the carrying mothers from a lot of stress and provide a good night’s sleep. Below are some of the many other awesome benefits associated with sex during pregnancy.
1. Increased affection between the couples
During the expecting period both mother and father will have a lot on their minds. But mostly fathers are the ones who will be more anxious and will feel left out in most of the things. Having regular sex increases oxytocin, a hormone which induces love and bonding. This ensures an improved relationship with your partner and also fills your exciting time with lots of love.
2. Easy vaginal delivery
Because of the intense orgasms pelvic floor muscles contract and the muscles are strengthened. Having frequent sex during the third trimester keeps these muscles toned and open the cervix. This may induce labor aiding in easy vaginal delivery and reducing the chance of using external tools to bring the baby out.
3. Decrease in blood pressure
Relieving stress makes the entire body and mind go into a relaxed state. This will result in a decrease in blood pressure for some amount of time. Preeclampsia can be serious for both mother and baby, so it is very important to consult your doctor and gain permanent cure.
4. Less bathroom visits
When the little one grows bigger and bigger, he or she may put a lot of pressure on the bladder resulting in frequent bathroom visits. Even sneezing or laughing can result in leakage and embarrassment. But the strengthened pelvic floor muscles caused due to frequent sex, regulates the flow of urine resulting in less bathroom trips.
5. Increased blood circulation
It is very important for both mother and the baby to get required blood supply and oxygen. Having sex releases many hormones which in turn aids in additional supply of oxygen and nutrition to the fetus. This helps in the growth and development of the baby.
6. Intense Orgasms
With the release of two important hormones, estrogen and progesterone, women may feel more sensitive and aroused. This helps them achieve longer and stronger orgasms.
7. Improves self-confidence
Women experience an emotional roller coaster during their pregnancy. There is a lot to take in and so much to prepare. There are also so many physical changes in their body which makes them think they are less attractive. But love making can improve their self-esteem and develop a positive attitude about themselves.
8. Ease of postpartum recovery
Since having sex strengthens the pelvic muscles which are responsible for birth, engaging in love making speeds up the recovery process.
9. Boosts immunity
Researches say that frequent sex activity can increase the level of IgA antibodies which increases immunity and also provides resistance to seasonal cold and flu. Ensuring expecting mother’s immunity in turn ensures a healthy baby and easy delivery
Even though there are many benefits of having sex during pregnancy, the couples should reconsider if they have the following conditions:
Women should be careful in choosing their partners. If their partners have STDs (Sexually Transmitted Disease), both mother and fetus can be infected with potentially dangerous diseases.
The dad to be should be very careful when indulging in oral sex. Blowing air into the vagina can cause blockage of the blood vessels by an air bubble. This condition is called air embolism and it is very dangerous for mother and child.
Even though having sex cannot harm the baby, it is best to avoid it when the women are at risk of miscarriage or have history of pre-term labor.
We all know that the fetus is well protected by an amniotic sac. But some women have a ruptured amniotic membrane and they should avoid having sex.
It is best avoiding sex when women have Placenta previa. It is a condition in which the placenta is so low covering the cervix, the opening of the uterus.
It is advised not to have sex when the couple are having multiple fetuses (twins, triplets etc.)
Do not engage in physical activity when you have an unexplained vaginal bleeding and cramps.
Doctors may advice you not to have sex to women having short cervix or cervical incompetence.
Always it is best to consult your gynecologist if you’re unsure whether you can have sex or when you find unusual symptoms.
Don’t hold yourself if you feel like relaxing. But if you wish not to have sex, it is always good to share your needs with your partner. After all, sex is not the only way for intimacy!

Best Skincare Routine – Simple steps for every skin type
Wishes to all the Wonderful Women – Alluring Adolescent Girls, Lovely Ladies, Marvelous Mothers, and Gorgeous Grandmas!
Woman, whatever stage we might be in, we love attention, – at any time having a pleasant look is what we would aim for. Following a perfect everyday skincare routine is the first step in achieving a beautiful look.
It also aids in maintaining healthy skin without worrying about acne, scars and dark spots. What matters to the perfect skincare routine is that in which order you layer the skincare processes. Our skin type also plays a major factor in creating a flawless routine.
Whether your skin is normal, oily, dry, or sensitive, the important three steps – CTM (Cleansing, Toning, and Moisturizing) remains the same. The remaining steps may slightly vary because we have to carefully choose the products based on our skin type.
A guide for the correct order of Skincare steps
The routines which we adopt for daytime and nighttime are more or less similar except for few steps, after all, we do not go to sleep with sunscreen and makeup on.
Day-time Routine
Night-time Routine
Cleanser
Eye Cream
Toner
Serum
Moisturizer
Face Oil
Sunscreen
1. Makeup Remover (Cleansing Oil)
When – PM
It is not advisable and safe for your skin to sleep with your makeup on. Removing the makeup should be the first step of your nighttime routine.
This phase helps the second step i.e., Cleansing, much easier. Choose the cleansing oil that is very gentle but effective enough to remove the waterproof mascara. We can also use reusable makeup remover pads.
2. Cleanser
When – AM & PM
Healthy skin means a happy face. So, grab your face cleanser and wash your face first thing in the morning and before going to bed at the night. Washing with a cleanser removes the impurities and the excess oil that are present in your face.
Dermatologists suggest not to use the cleansers more than twice a day. Because doing so will remove the natural oils of your face and break down the skin barrier.
3. Eye Cream
When – AM & PM
Eye Cream is a great option to treat issues like puffy eyes, dark circles and nourishing the areas around your eyes. Take the eye cream and gently apply it by patting it with your ring finger.
Eye creams which consist of peptides, antioxidants, Vitamin E, chamomile and other calming and hydrating ingredients are proven to be much effective.
4. Toner
When – AM & PM
The next step of the daily skincare routine is an optional one. Toners are best known to balance the pH level of the skin and keep them hydrated. Look for the alcohol-free toners probably with hyaluronic acid.
To apply the toner, all you need is a cotton pad. Dip the cotton pad in toner and gently swipe across your face.
5. Serum
When – AM & PM
Serums are targeted at treating the pigmentations and dark spots of your face. The serums for the daytime and the nighttime should be different.
A serum with Vitamin C is the best option for the day as it protects our facial skin from UV rays, pollutants and blue light. For the nighttime, pick the serum with the retinol. Retinol aids in reducing the pore size, increasing the collagen, removing the dead skin and decreasing oil production.
6. Moisturizer
When – AM & PM
Using a moisturizer is a very important step in our skincare routine. Keeping the skin hydrated and strengthening the skin barrier are the benefits of this vital step.
Here again, choose moisturizers with different ingredients for day and nighttime. For the day go with the light moisturizer that will blend quickly with your makeup and select the heavier cream moisturizer for the night.
7. Face Oil
When – AM & PM
While most dermatologists believe, face oil should be the second last stop of the daily routine and the last step of the nighttime routine, some experts say to use it before the moisturizer.
Some may also prefer to mix the oil with the moisturizer and use it. Take a few drops of the oil in your palms and gently apply on to your face.
8. Sun Screen
When – AM & PM
Applying Sun Screen might be the last step but it is not the least important step. In fact, it is the most important and must to do step in the whole routine. One should put on a Sun Screen with at least 30 SPF before proceeding further to the makeup.
Dermatologists insist on applying Sun Screen daily even if you are indoors.
Conclusion
Find the products that would be best suited for your skin type and see the labels for clear instructions and proper usage. Also notice that some products are used only during the night and some are meant only for the day.
Always do a patch test before you try out any new product. This can help you to identify if that product would cause any allergic reactions like irritation, redness or itchiness. In addition to this daily routine, eating healthy foods and staying hydrated will make your skin glow.

Why You Should Switch to Natural and Organic Sanitary Pads?
Most girls in India use the sanitary napkins suggested by their mom or sister and never look back. Being a taboo topic, girls hesitate and feel embarrassed to discuss the available choices and with less awareness, they don’t find the courage to switch their menstrual hygiene products. But, thanks to the internet, women are now empowered with the necessary knowledge and awareness of the abundant options of sanitary napkins that are available in the market.
The world is turning organic and the sanitary napkin brands are also following the trails. But whether you should switch from conventional plastic-made sanitary pads to natural organic sanitary pads, has to be your choice.
What are Organic and Natural Sanitary Pads?
The Organic Sanitary Pads are made from plant fibres such as kenaf, corn, bamboo, wood, or jute pulp. The natural pads contain an absorbent cellulose core that keeps you dry during menstruation and has a soft top layer that lets your skin breathe.
These pads are free from plastics, chlorine, latex, or carcinogenic materials; because of this they are safe and cause no harm to the most sensitive vaginal area of the women’s body. Since they are free from plastics and other chemicals, they are easily compostable, contributing to a greener and plastic-free earth.
So, What Are the Conventional Sanitary Napkins Made of?
The sanitary napkins have dramatically evolved over the years from being bulky to thin, and now ultrathin, with wings, adhesive, leak-proof layer, etc. Likewise, the ingredients used in the sanitary pads also changed from cotton to superabsorbent gel, feel-dry non-woven plastic layer, and plastic back-sheet as the leak-proof layer.
Apart from these, the following are the chemicals that go into sanitary pads manufacture:
Chlorine: The sanitary pads are made to look white by bleaching them in chlorine. This gives them their pure white and clean appearance. The bleaching procedure creates Dioxin, which is a highly toxic pollutant.
Rayon: A synthetic fibre derived from wood pulp, cheaper than cotton and enhances the absorption capacity in pads. But it is harmful to the softer skin of women.
Glyphosate: Cancer-causing pesticide, yes you read it correct! Most of the sanitary pads are tested positive for this chemical, as it can stay on the cotton for long after it has been harvested.
Fragrances: The sanitary napkins now come with odor neutralizers and artificial fragrances, which can enter the bloodstream causing side effects, allergies, and other reactions.
The disposable pads that claim themselves as cottony soft pads aren’t made of cotton. This horror truth hit the nail on our heads to look for healthier, comfortable, and eco-friendly alternatives.
Below are the 5 reasons why you should switch from conventional sanitary pads to sustainable and biodegradable organic sanitary pads:
So, What Are the Conventional Sanitary Napkins Made of?

The disposable pads that claim themselves as cottony soft pads aren’t made of cotton. This horror truth hit the nail on our heads to look for healthier, comfortable, and eco-friendly alternatives.
Below are the 5 reasons why you should switch from conventional sanitary pads to sustainable and biodegradable organic sanitary pads:
1. A Safe and Hygienic Menstruation
The chemicals present in the normal sanitary pads are highly toxic to the most absorbent part of your body, the vagina. The top layers of the natural sanitary pads are very soft when compared to the conventional sanitary pads in which top layers are made of synthesized plastics. Hence the organic sanitary pads keep your vagina free from rashes, irritation, and skin allergies. The risk of getting an infection due to the bacteria is very less when using these natural pads.
And also, the organic pads are made of plant-based ingredients permitting a better flow of air, which allows the trapped heat and moisture to evaporate. Owing to this reason, your sensitive vaginal skin can breathe easily.
2. Environment friendly
A single ordinary sanitary pad is equivalent to four plastic bags and it takes a minimum of 800 years to decompose. On average 12.3 billion sanitary napkins are disposed causing pollution and harm to the soil of our earth.
Whereas, the organic sanitary pads are free of plastics and made from natural ingredients like kenaf fibres, cotton, corn, and bamboo, etc., and they are easily biodegradable. The organic and natural sanitary pads decompose within 2 months to 2 years, which brings an effective and positive change in building an eco-friendly sustainable environment.
3. Free from harmful chemicals
Polyolefins present in conventional sanitary pads are responsible for irritation in your skin. Also, Dioxin, a by-product of the bleaching process worsens the damage. To avoid health issues, choosing the organic alternative is the better solution recommended by gynaecologists, as these pads do not cause allergies and are also rash-free.
The natural substances present in the organic sanitary pads make them soft, cushiony, and highly comfortable for wearing the same.
4. Help farmers and animals
The farmers who provide raw materials required for the manufacturing of these sanitary pads, grow them organically without using any harmful pesticides or herbicides. This protects their land from the health impacts of dangerous chemicals so that they remain fit for growing crops.
Since insecticides are not used in organic farming, birds, insects like bees, and butterflies are protected from unintended and unnecessary harm. This increases the pollination and also, the population of the insects. So, if you wish to have fertile earth, it is wise to choose organic sanitary pads.
5. Reasonable price
There is a misconception that natural sanitary napkins are highly priced and unaffordable for middle-class people. But that is not true. Despite all the benefits, the organic pads are available at a much reasonable price, after all, spending on a healthier, comfortable, and eco-friendly option is a good bet when it also contributes to a safe and green environment.
Why Bliss Naturals is the Best Organic Sanitary Napkin in India?
Bliss Natural Pads are made out of Kenaf fibre extracted from the stem of the plant Gongura Greens. This fibre acts as an absorbent and has natural anti-microbial properties.
Bliss Pads are herbal pads and are very resistant to mildew and rot. Therefore, they are very soft, light-weight, comfortable, and provide a rash-free menstrual experience.
Since Bliss Pads are made with plant-based components, they are biodegradable and take only six months to decompose. Switch to bliss pads for a better and sustainable environment.
Being the organic sanitary pad, bliss natural pads are free from plastics and chemicals. Deodorants and artificial fragrances are avoided to ensure irritation-free periods.
Good menstrual hygiene should be available to all women irrespective of their status. Bliss Pads are the only organic pads in India that are available at a very cheaper price of Rs.99 for a pack of 12 herbal sanitary pads.

What are the chances of a woman getting pregnant with endometriosis?
Pregnancy is the most beautiful thing which happens only to the female population, after all, they get to experience the movement of life inside them. But, if you have Endometriosis, you start worrying about the possibilities of getting pregnant.
Are there any chances of getting pregnant and deliver a healthy baby, with Endometriosis being a common infertility issue?
The answer is yes, many women in India were able to conceive and have a healthy baby, but the process may be difficult or take a long time for some women.
So, what is Endometriosis?
A unique tissue that forms the lining of the female uterus is known as Endometrium. The lining sheds off during your period causing the bleeding.
When this tissue grows outside of the uterus in parts like ovaries, bowel or bladder, fallopian tubes, and on the lining of abdominal intestines, the condition is called Endometriosis.
If this tissue breaks and bleeds in those areas, it creates pain and unnecessary complications like scar tissue, adhesions, inflammation, cysts, and infertility.
Do you fall in the risk category?
The most important effect of endometriosis is infertility. But most women with mild endometriosis can get pregnant without treatment. Difficulty in getting pregnant is based on the severity of the condition and the location of excess tissue.
The exact cause of how endometriosis affects fertility is still a mystery but there are some explanations.
A very well-known theory is that endometriosis causes a high level of inflammation inside the body. These inflammations damage a woman’s egg or a man’s sperm, thus preventing fertilization.
The egg should travel from the ovary through the fallopian tube and implant itself in the uterus lining for fertilization. But, when you have endometriosis in the fallopian tube, then this excess tissue might stop the egg before reaching its destination. So, there is no egg or a damaged egg, hence it is very difficult to get pregnant.
Experts also suggest that endometriosis affects the immune system of women, causing it to attack the embryo, instead of protecting it.
The more endometrial tissue growth a woman has, the more likely she is to experience some fertility issues.
If you are having endometriosis, tried to get pregnant in the last six months and you find no luck, then it’s time to visit a fertility specialist to discuss the right treatments.
Treatments for Endometriosis related Infertility
There is no permanent cure for endometriosis. The doctor can analyse the severity of endometriosis, your age, risk factors, and suggest feasible treatments for endometriosis-related infertility. You also should consider the treatment costs and your partner’s preference before deciding on the right procedure.
Freezing your eggs:
Since endometriosis affects ovaries, the specialists suggest preserving your eggs, if you want to get pregnant in the near future. It might be a costly procedure.
Superovulation and intrauterine insemination (SO-IUI):
One can prefer SO-IUI if they have mild endometriosis, a fallopian tube with no scar tissues, and a partner’s sperm with no fertility issues.
The practitioner will prescribe certain fertility medications which will help in producing two to three matured eggs. After ensuring the egg’s maturity through ultrasounds, the doctor will insert your partner’s collected sperms within your uterus.
In vitro fertilization (IVF):
IVF is nothing but extracting your egg and your partner’s sperms, after which the egg is fertilized out in the laboratory and again implanted within your uterus.
The success rate of IVF in women with endometriosis is about half the success rate of IVF in women with other fertility issues.
Still, many women with endometriosis were able to get pregnant, because of the IVF treatments. For women who do not respond to other fertility treatments, the doctors recommend IVF as the final saviour.
Laparoscopic surgery:
For some women removing the excess grown endometrial tissues with the help of laparoscopy can help in improving the odds of getting pregnant.
Medications:
Medications like progestins increase the number of pregnancy hormones in the body, thus increasing the chances of conceiving.
Are there any ways to improve the chances of getting pregnant with endometriosis?
Yes, some of the following lifestyle changes can enhance your chances of pregnancy along with the above-mentioned procedures.
Maintaining a proper healthy weight
Including nutritious foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and proteins in the diet
Regular exercises without stressing out your body.
Leading a healthy lifestyle can help in reducing the inflammations inside the body and create a safer atmosphere for the baby to develop and grow throughout the pregnancy.
Message from Bliss Naturals
There are many women with endometriosis who were able to conceive and deliver a healthy baby. In India, fertility hospitals are on the rise and the right doctor can suggest the best conception option for you before you start trying to get pregnant.
Since endometriosis increases the risk of miscarriage, pre-term birth, and bleeding, pregnant women with this condition are considered at higher risk. So, frequent and careful monitoring is needed throughout the pregnancy, to find out any complications at an earlier stage.

The Science of Breast – Science of why Humans Have breast?
Breasts are also called mammary glands. Thanks to the boobies’ babies get their food and feel secure in their mother’s warmth. Breasts are bodacious! They are very important for human livelihood, yet we see them only as an obsession.
Breasts are organs that are not fully developed at birth. So, when do they get fully grown? Have we ever thought about how they work? Any idea why only female humans have permanent fully grown boobs?  There are so many things about breasts which we are not brainstorming because they are deemed as “taboob”, oops “taboo”!
In this article, we explore the science behind breasts. Which one is cool? God turning water to wine, or our bodies turning blood to milk?
Mammary glands are unique to mammals. Proteins, sugars, and fat from the mother’s blood are converted into breast milk, which is responsible for the baby’s nutrition.
The young ones of birds and reptiles are dependent on their parents to bring them outside food like fruits and insects, whereas mammals, from the word mammary, obtain their nourishment just by sucking the secretion of their mother’s milk. As long as mommy mammals are strong and healthy their little ones can get enough nutrients from their breast milk.
1. Breast Size
All mammals develop temporary breasts to produce milk during the nursing period. But their breasts will go back to flat once the feeding is done. But only in homo sapiens, the breasts remain in their developed stage even after their purpose is completed.
Although both male and female have breasts, their size, shape, and function are not the same. At the phase of puberty, ‘oestrogen’ a sex hormone guides the development of the female reproductive system which also includes the growth of breasts and pubic hair.
Men have low levels of oestrogen which explains their small breast size compared to that of women. Many of us believe that breast size is based on the weight of the human body, but we are not aware that our genes play a major role in determining their size. Also, the right and left boobs are not always in equal size. Most commonly the left one is bigger than the right one.
This phenomenon is known as breast asymmetry for which the scientists are not able to find a proper explanation. It is also amazing how female breasts change their size throughout every menstrual cycle depending upon the levels of oestrogen and progesterone produced at that time.
We all understand that a woman’s breast enlarges during the pregnancy and lactation period. But it may also increase its size when using hormone-based contraception methods like birth control pills, patches and intra-vaginal devices.
2. Breast-feeding
As per the human anatomy, the ring of pigmented skin which is surrounding the nipple is called the areola and the little bumps on the boobs are called “Montgomery’s Glands”.
During the nursing period, these glands produce appetizing oily secretions and also release some compounds to keep the nipple lubricated and taste yummy for a baby.
We may know that the nipple is made up of a single orifice but are you aware of the fact that it also has many tiny holes which we cannot see with a naked eye? Once the foetus is born and when they start breastfeeding, receptors in the nipple detect the new-born’s sucking and send messages to the mother’s brain.
This is when an awesome process happens. The mother’s brain releases oxytocin and initiates the production of the lactating hormone prolactin. Oxytocin is also known as the cuddle hormone, as it enhances the bonding experience between mother and child.
The hormone prolactin is essential in making milk. This pretty cool response can also get triggered by just hearing an infant’s cry, even if the little one is not yours. One should also understand that breast size has nothing to do with the ability to breastfeed. Bigger doesn’t mean better!
3. Sexual Pleasure
Babies are obsessed with breasts, but so do individuals.
A lot of researches say that people are more attracted to large breasts with a certain hip to width ratio. This explains why breast implantation surgeries are the most predominant form of plastic surgeries that are being performed across the world.
Yet, some researches show that people prefer boobs of all different shapes and sizes, and medium-sized breasts were rated as statistically most attractive. Boobs are the sex symbol which not only gives pleasure to your partners but also give pleasure to yourselves. Studies show that stimulation of nipples enhanced sexual arousal in 82% of women and 52% of men.
Interestingly an MRI scan that mapped the brain’s response to clitoral and vaginal self-stimulation, found that the same areas lit up when a woman stimulated her nipples. There are a lot of nerve endings in female breasts compared to that of men, this results in greater sexual arousal in women.
4. Breast Cancer
Despite being an incredible source of both nourishment and pleasure, breasts are also unbelievably vulnerable.
Breast cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed forms of cancers all across the world. The boobs go through growth and modifications throughout one’s life and because of this reason the cells around them are frequently dividing.
These cells that divide every so often are at a higher danger of mutations than the cells that don’t divide. The hormone oestrogen also stimulates breast cell division, increasing the risk of breast cancer.
Researchers have discovered new risk factors of breast cancer such as breast density, age of first pregnancy, and the presence of cancer genes such as BRCA1 and BRCA2. Because of these reasons, women are more susceptible to diseases like breast cancer, benign breast lumps, mastitis and fibroadenoma.
Doctors are advising the women (particularly those above 40) to get themselves checked regularly and get a mammogram once a year. Early detection of any problems like infection or tumour can be easily treated.
5. Conclusion
Breasts make women feel empowered, liberated and wanted. They give immense superpower to women through which they nourish the future lives on the earth.
Whether they are tube sock or saggy or snoopy, the breasts have become an essential feature of our social life and defining us as a unique species. We Humans should feel gratified for the existence of these blissful boobs!

Which Birth Control method is best for you?
Contraception or Birth Control is in use since ancient times, whereas the efficient and safest methods became available only after the 20th century. Birth control is defined as the methods or devices which are used to prevent pregnancy in women.
The birth control methods empower women to freedom of designing their future without worrying about unwanted pregnancies. After all, it is “Your body, your rules”. Giving birth and growing a baby is not a joke but requires a lot of effort both physically as well as mentally. Financial planning is another aspect that needs consideration before deciding to have a baby. The fertility control methods enable couples to choose when they want to have a baby.
Following points are some of the reality checks on the birth control methods:
Comprehensive Sex Education or Adolescence Education Program, and access to birth control reduce the rate of unwanted pregnancies in teenagers.
It is recommended that women who have reached menopause should continue their birth control methods at least for one year after their last period.
Vaginal Douching after sexual intercourse is not a birth control method and cannot prevent pregnancy. Also, it is associated with numerous health problems and thus not recommended.
Women can get pregnant while having sex on their periods, although they are less fertile on the first few days.
Women who are not exclusively breastfeeding can become pregnant after four to six weeks of delivering their child.
Choosing the right birth control method
Not every birth control method can be perfect for you. Depending on the lifestyle choices, and future pregnancy plans one can choose the suitable method.
The best way to prevent pregnancy is the proper usage of a male condom along with any other form of birth control.
There are so many birth-control options like pills, patches, condoms, rings, shots, implants, surgery, etc., Trying out different contraceptive methods before fixing the right one can be very frustrating and exhausting. So, we have categorized the birth control methods according to their types and functions.
1. Permanent Contraceptive methods
If you have decided not to have kids anymore and opting for a hassle-free permanent solution then Sterilization is your choice.
Tubal Ligation (Sterilization):
Tubal ligation is a surgery that involves blocking, tying, or cutting the fallopian tubes in women. Fallopian tubes are the ones that carry the egg from the ovaries to the uterus. So, when the fallopian tubes are removed the eggs cannot reach the uterus, and tada pregnancy is impossible.
This is a permanent procedure that is more than 99% effective. Tubal ligation can prevent pregnancy but not your periods.
Vasectomy
Vasectomy is also a surgical solution available for men. Vasectomy blocks or removes the tubes that carry sperm from the testicles to the penis. So, no sperm and no pregnancy. This procedure is also more than 99% effective.
2. Low Maintenance and Long-term Contraceptive Methods
Birth Control Implant
Nexplanon or the birth control implant is a tiny rod about the size of a matchstick, and it is implanted under the skin of your upper arm. This implant releases a hormone called ‘progestin’ which stops the eggs to leave the ovaries. So, this prevents pregnancy.
The implant is not a permanent birth control method and lasts for a longer time up to 5 years. If you wish to become pregnant, your doctor can easily take it out and you can quickly get pregnant.
This method is super effective i.e., more than 99% and it may cause minor side-effects like disruption in periods, acne, breast tenderness, and weight gain.
Intrauterine Device IUDs
An IUD is a small T-shaped device when placed inside the uterus prevents pregnancy. This contraceptive method is also more than 99% effective. There are two types of IUD’s
• Copper IUD
Copper IUDs work by deterring the sperms. They make sure the sperms never reach the egg. Once this IUD is put in, you can forget it for the next 12 years. The best thing about Copper IUD is that it can be used as an emergency contraceptive method. If it is set within 5 days after the unprotected sex, it can avoid pregnancy.
• Hormonal IUD
The hormonal IUDs release progestin which stops ovulation and prevents pregnancy for almost 3 to 7 years. The important side effect is that hormonal IUDs can make you stop having periods or make it much lighter than usual.
3. Scheduled Contraceptive Methods
If you are a time-table person, then these methods work best for you. These fertility control methods should be administered at a scheduled time or else they cannot be very effective.
• Birth Control Shot
Get an injection of progestin every 3 months and you are safe from pregnancy. This method is 94% effective.
• Birth Control Vaginal Ring
You wear a small, flexible ring inside your vagina and it prevents pregnancy by releasing hormones throughout the day. You can leave the ring for 3 weeks after which remove it to have your period. Then replace it with a new ring. This method is 91% effective. Note that if the ring is not placed correctly or if you have any slips, then there is a chance for pregnancy.
• Birth Control Patch
The contraceptive patch is a safe and convenient method if you use it correctly. You can wear the patch on certain areas of the body and replace it with a new patch every week for 3 weeks. Remove it during your menstrual week. This method is also 91% effective.
• Birth Control Pill
Birth control pills are safe, affordable, and effective method if you always take the pill daily at the same time. 91% effective and the risk of human error is high.
4. Every Time Usage Contraceptive Methods
These one-time usage contraceptive methods are also called Barrier Birth Control Methods. You need to use it every time you have sex and also need to use it correctly for it to be very effective. The Barrier conception methods are easily available at many stores or at online and do not require a doctor’s prescription to buy them.
Internal Condom: 95% effective
External Condom: 97% effective
Diaphragm: 96% effective
Sponge: 91% effective
Cervical Cap: 86% effective
Spermicide: 72% effective
Some of the above options work well only when combined with the other option. For example, you need to use spermicide along with a diaphragm or cervical cap. Consult your doctor to decide the right method that would suit well for you.
Of all the contraceptive methods available, only internal and external condoms are the ones that can protect you against any Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).
5. Contraceptive methods based on lifestyle
These are the contraception methods that do not involve surgery, implants, devices, shots, and condoms. There are few other ways to avoid pregnancy if followed strictly.
• Fertility Awareness Methods (FAMs)
Natural family planning or the Rhythm method is tracking your ovulation through body temperature, cervical mucus, and calendar. Once you find the days on which you’re fertile you can avoid having sex or use other forms of birth control to prevent pregnancy. FAMs are generally 76-88% effective and have a high failure rate.
• Pull Out Method
This method means what is mentioned in its name. Withdrawal or pulling the penis out of the vagina before ejaculation prevents pregnancy as it keeps the semen away from the vagina. It is 78% effective and does not protect you from STIs.
• Breast Feeding
The Lactational Amenorrhea Method (LAM) can be used when you exclusively breastfeed your baby. Meaning you feed only breast milk to your baby every 4 hours during the day and every 6 hours during the night. During the lactating period, ovulation does not happen and you can’t get pregnant when there is no egg.
This method is 98% effective only for the first six months of your baby’s life or until your period returns.
• Abstinence and Outercourse
Abstinence is when you don’t have any kinds of sex (vaginal, oral, or anal). Outercourse is indulging in all sexual activities except vaginal sex. In both methods, sperm cells are kept away from reaching the egg inside the vagina and so, pregnancy cannot happen. Of course, these methods are 100% effective.
Message from Bliss Naturals
The best birth control method is the one that works well for you depending upon your pregnancy goals, lifestyle, frequency of sex, affordability, and convenience of you and your partner. The method which your friends love may be a total failure for you. If you cannot decide talk to your gynaecologist to express your concerns and he/she might suggest the best option accordingly.

Why women with PCOS are most vulnerable to mental health problems?
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) – a lot of women of their reproductive age are affected by this common endocrine heterogeneous disorder. The most known symptoms of this hormonal disorder are abnormal or absence of periods, obesity, infertility, excess growth of hair on the face and body, and acne. Not all PCOS-affected women experience all the symptoms associated with the condition.
Along with the above-mentioned symptoms, some women are subjected to depression, anxiety, and other mental health problems. These numbers are on the constant rise, but they are often overlooked and left untreated.
How PCOS affects the mental health of women?
Well, recent reports say that the women affected by PCOS are three times more prone to anxiety and depression than women without PCOS. PCOS is a condition of abnormal hormones, some of which increase the risk of psychological problems. Their morals, the cultural values of the society, and the burden for a perfect look can all affect the emotional well-being of women affected with PCOS.
PCOS & Perfect Looks
In women with PCOS, the male hormone called Testosterone is found in abundant levels and they cause abnormal changes in their physical appearance like excess growth of facial hair, acne, or loss of scalp hair. Women are always obsessed with good-looking faces, and their beautiful presence before society and anything that takes a toll on these are considered not worthy. These women feel less feminine and are reported to have low self-esteem contributing to emotional imbalance and depression.
PCOS & Obesity
One of the main symptoms that tag along with PCOS is obesity. Due to the hormonal imbalances, most women with PCOS are insulin-resistant, i.e., their bodies do not use up the glucose like how they normally would. These excess levels of insulin, instead of burning the fat make them get stored in your belly. Due to this reason, women with PCOS gain weight which disturbs their interpersonal relationships leading to anxiety and panic attacks.
PCOS & Infertility
Because of the increased level of male hormones and abnormality in reproductive hormones, women with PCOS do not ovulate. This causes irregular menstrual cycles and since there are no eggs for fertilization, women with PCOS find trouble in getting pregnant. Infertility can be physically, emotionally, and financially draining for couples, who often need assisted reproductive techniques to get conceived. This can cause prolonged stress leading to depression.
PCOS & Insomnia
Women with PCOS experience a much serious problem called Sleep Apnoea. A person with sleep apnoea will stop breathing for a shorter amount of time during their sleep. Because of this and constant worrying about other symptoms associated with PCOS, the affected women feel trouble falling asleep. Lack of sleep disturbs the mental state leaving the patients with hopelessness and cause serious health issues like psychological disorders and depression.
Ways to improve your mental health despite having PCOS
If you notice any changes in your mood or feel anxious and depressed, discuss it with your doctor to get medical treatment as a cure. We should also understand that the symptoms of PCOS are very much related to one’s lifestyle and making some modifications can help in controlling mood swings, anxiety, and depression.
Daily workouts not only help in maintaining a healthy figure but also release happy hormones called endorphins which are responsible for mood lifting and mental peace.
Alternative therapies like yoga, breathing exercises, meditation, and acupuncture are known to reduce depression and anxiety among women with PCOS.
Following a healthy diet and avoiding foods that increase insulin levels in the body can help in reducing the extra weight.
Friends and family to have your back is a great support and motivation to emerge successfully from the psychological effects of PCOS.
The doctors can prescribe medications for the depression after taking consideration into the other symptoms you experience. Some antidepressants are known to cause weight gain. So, express your concerns to the specialists before you assume medications on your own.
Supplements like omega fatty acids and vitamin D are reported to relax the mind and reduce mood swings.
Message from Bliss Naturals
In India, most women tend to ignore the mental symptoms and experience stigma around them. They do not take the issue seriously which may lead to non-restorable consequences. Lack of confidence, poor self-esteem, loss of sleep, frustration due to the trouble in conceiving, and having negative thoughts can even trigger suicidal thoughts in women with PCOS.
Proper self-care is very important and there is nothing to feel embarrassed about reaching out for help in adverse times. After all, PCOS is just a disorder and with proper treatment, you can reduce the symptoms of PCOS and depression and lead a blissful life.

How does Pornography affect us- Is Porn Harmful?
Whether you deny it or not, Pornography belongs to the world from the beginning of mankind. There are many paintings and sculptures which depict the existence of pornography in ancient Indian culture. People across the world speak different languages, eat different foods, follow different cultures, but when it comes to porn, people from all the countries watch it, Period!
Despite being seen by millions of people, porn is considered a malignant threat to society’s well-being. To reduce the number of sexual crimes that are rapidly increasing, in 2018, the Indian government posed its second ban on pornography sites especially those that involve children in the sexual act.
But, why do people resort to porn in the first place?
A lot of modern couples choose to watch sexually explicit videos to spice up their boring sex encounters and master new ways to pleasure their partner.
Because people are unwilling to engage in sexually related conversations, young adults search for their answers in pornography.
Due to the fear of being judged, many take refuge in porn instead of coming out explicitly about their sexual preferences.
With pornography, one no longer needs a partner to make them feel good. People watch porn to provide sexual relief through self-love.
People see porn to discover different ways of making love, but have you ever wondered whether the content shown in pornography is a fact or fantasy. When people try to apply this porn fantasy to real life, they hit a bump instead of pleasure.
Watching porn changes the way of our usual thinking and will eventually become a habitual practice that leads to trouble in facing the reality, boredom, desensitization, objectification of women, and an increase in sex crimes.
Sexual Violence
In 2018, four schoolboys’ gang-raped a 16-year-old girl after luring her to a storeroom in the name of Independence Day preparations for their school. When investigated, one of the boys exposed that the idea of rape came to him after watching similar porn on his mobile phone. This triggered the High Court to suggest curbs on pornographic sites to avoid bad influence on the minds of children, followed by the porn ban implemented by the Indian government.
Not all the people watching porn are involved in sex crimes, but we also cannot deny the fact porn can be a catalyst for the violent sexual behaviours that are rising in the current scenarios.
Sexual Satisfaction
Reports say that couples watching porn together are more dedicated and sexually satisfied in their relationship, compared to those who watch it alone. If your partner is not open to the idea of fantasy sex, then compelling them to do so would trigger their insecurities as they might think that you fall more to the perfect porn star’s body. This would cause a drift in your lovely relationship and to always feel less satisfied in the act of love.
Addiction
Among all the negative effects of watching porn, sex addiction stands at the top of the list. Some people get too stuck in that made-up world leading to an obsession with sexual thoughts, urges, or behaviours that cause troubles or distress, negatively affecting their job, relationships, and other aspects of life. People who are addicts seek to watch sexually explicit videos because they want it, rather than because they enjoy it. Porn acts as a component in sex addiction, but whether porn itself causes addiction is not yet proven.
Attitude Towards Women
In most porn videos women are portrayed as some sex objects which fuel sexist attitudes and set unrealistic sexual expectations. Increased porn consumption can lead to negative attitudes toward women including stereotypes, hostility, and abuses.
How does COVID-19 Influence Pornography Use?
Despite the ban on pornography by the Indian government, the Covid-19 curfew saw the highest spike in porn watching. India is the third biggest porn watching nation after the US and UK. Reports state that of the total traffic porn sites from India, 30 percent of them were women.
The quarantine posed previously unseen levels of financial challenges, separation from loved ones. Whether it was because of the lack of physical company or just the need to blow off some steam, many people accessed the porn sites. People sought sexually explicit videos to reduce the stress of loneliness and to deal with the anxiety and depression caused by COVID-19.
Also, researchers say that they found no evidence that porn led to any problematic deeds, such as addictive, compulsive, risky, or unhealthy behaviours in this pandemic period.
Message from Bliss Natural
The likelihood of porn having a negative effect on life very much depends on the individual consuming it. If you find no control over your porn use, or your sexual expectations become unrealistic, seek help from a qualified sex therapist to manage the porn consumption in your life, before it starts affecting your work or relationships.
