Most the time it was just him and Mama, but his mama had left him at camp because he wasn't feeling well, his mother had come while Mama was in town getting food for them.

from a young age, all children were taught to look both ways before crossing the street. maybe she should have taken those few extra seconds to do just that before stepping into the road. maybe then she wouldn’t currently be laying in the road after having been struck by said vehicle.

     "Shit! Fuck! Oh my god..." Eve jumps out of her car immediately after slamming the brakes. Her heart pounds in her chest, adrenaline pumping through her veins. Of all things, hitting someone with her car was the very last thing she needs. 

     "Ma'am? Are you all right? Do you need me to call an ambulance? Fuck, I'm so sorry. I swear I didn't see you there..." She kneels down next to her, hands hovering. Shit, if only she remembered the first aid bullshit she had to learn.
