#mugoftheday >> INDIANAPOLIS, IN | SPRING 2016 My mom really introduced us all to coffee, “us” being myself, my siblings, and by association @woodward_visuals. I can’t even remember when I first heard the name @stumptowncoffee, but it seems synonymous with coffee in our family now. Since we’ve grown up and moved out, we’re always looking for ways to stay connected, and one Christmas, my mom bought a really neat box set of mugs from Stumptown; 4 mugs in a wooden box, each with a slightly different mushroom design. #mugoftheday >> HOT SPRINGS, ARKANSAS | NOV 2016 • One of the most unique National Parks I’ve ever been to is @hotspringsnps. Not only is it the smallest National Park, but it was the first federally protected land in U.S. history — before there were National Parks and definitely before the Park Service, Hot Springs was given the designation of “reservation” in the late 1800s due to the great influx of traffic to the region for relaxation and healing purposes. • It’s also the only NPS site that encourages visitors to use and take its resource - 144° thermal water! • It’s also the only NPS site with a brewery inside it! Which uses that 144° thermal water to brew its beer (the only brewery in the world to brew with thermal water!)! • Hit up Bathhouse Row, watch the park film, and take a hike through the surrounding National Forest. #mugoftheday >> MAUI, HI | 2015 : In February of 2015, I took a road trip with @herestothewildones and @nicolelehrman to some baller national parks in the southwest, and MEANWHILE, @woodward_visuals was on a big trip for work that had him photographing whales and volcanoes and stuff on Maui. We’d only been dating a few months, but he was already well aware of my mug collection, and in all the craziness of his Hawaii adventure, he thought to bring a piece of it back to me. - He fell in love with the crater of #Haleakalā, and promised to bring me back with him the next time he went. #mugoftheday >> CHICAGO, IL | 2015 When I used to work events, I traveled a lot, sometimes for weeks, always with little time for sleep, and usually no time to actually see the city I had traveled to. The last time I was in Chicago for work, I was there for 14 days with one day off between two events. Only one person from the crew had that same schedule, so on our off day, @becca_kuhlmann and I made a point to see Chicago! We walked easily 7 miles, with stops at a neat paper store and Anthropologie — mainly to see the window displays. We each ended up buying a piece of pottery: this mug for me, and a beautiful ceramic bowl for Becca. In honor of my best friend @herestothewildones, getting a new fancy phone with fancy camera, and entering a new season of my life, I’m resurrecting #mugoftheday! ——— MANCOS, CO | 2016 Once upon a time, I did a crazy thing and left the Midwest to be a seasonal park ranger in the mountains/mostly desert of SW Colorado. The job and location was amazing enough, but the food spots, coffee shops, breweries, and local people were the cherry on top. If you ever find yourself near Mesa Verde National Park, you do not want to miss @absolutebakeryandcafe. Get something smothered in green chiles. Trust me. • • • I grew up in a family of collectors. My first big job in college required a lot of traveling for work, which was new and awesome and a little scary! My mom has loved coffee for as long as I can remember, so it became our tradition for me to visit coffee shops in the cities I worked, and to bring back a mug. 9 years & 50+ mugs later... As another season on the Mesa comes to a close, I'm so happy that I can look back at some truly fantastic memories: creating another awesome collection of videos, designing some cool stuff, enjoying many trivia nights with new friends, kicking off the park's podcast (!!!), getting to room with one of my best friends, and getting freakin engaged!
