today was supposed to be a normal tuesday — half day for the kids (crafts and a movie to make your life easier), lesson planning after school, maybe a coffee run with your coworkers during your lunch if time allowed

you weren’t expecting to run into pro-hero cellophane (who has recently taken on a modeling stint with a magazine — and it shows. you didn’t think he could get any more gorgeous and yet here he is…)

he beams when he sees you like he knows you (he doesn’t. you would have remembered meeting someone like him.)

“so this is my niece and nephew’s favorite teacher! great to finally put a face to the name — especially one as cute as yours. they talk about you all the time, y’know.”

you’re surprised by how much of a flirt he is. you figured he would be, but what you don’t expect is the way he seems to genuinely mean it

it becomes ritual, him being in town for the modeling, for him to see you every morning that he drops the kids off

a flirty comment, a wink, some idle chatting as he waits entirely longer than normal to let the kids’ hands go

and finally, one day, an invitation out for coffee

and that too becomes ritual. so does him dropping off your lunch and bringing pastries to staff meeting and whisking you away for dinner after a long day of work

until the day he tells you his modeling contract has finished. he has to move, far for a mission abroad. he’ll be gone for at least a year, maybe more

“come with me, please?”

“hanta, i have the kids! my job, i— i can’t just leave them…”

he’s heartbroken, but he of all people knows commitment to a career. fine, that’s okay, you two can make it work. long distance for a bit never killed anyone right?

wrong. you kiss him goodbye and after the first week it’s like he never existed. no calls, no messages, nothing at all

you’re furious at first, then upset, and then indifferent. six months pass until one day you get a call from a number you don’t recognize, and when you pick up, you hear a voice that you very much do

“hanta?!”

your name is a sigh of relief on his lips. he explains that the mission was undercover, and that he wasn’t allowed to maintain contact with any civilians or associates while he was away.

“they wouldn’t let me notify anyone, but if they did, you would have been my first call. i wrote you, too, but they didn’t let me send them. i still have the letters, though, if you want them…”

he’s telling the truth, you can tell by the sincerity and longing in his voice. so you hear him out, and when he tells you he’s at your local airport, you go to see him

it’s been six months, but when you see him it’s like no time has passed. and when he kisses you, it’s like he never left
