Whoops! Thank you Osh! I am a way back machine fail cause I never use it and couldn’t find the article by searching Gavin’s name and Teen Vogue.
Double time in your inbox. But I just noticed another article change.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Max interviewed Gavin for Teen Vogue in 2021. Gavin and his mother gave the interview together because he was 11 years old.
Screenshots from screenshots of the original interview format. Versus now. What is circulating on Buddie Twitter.
Tumblr media
They changed the formatting so you can’t tell the interviewer prompted the answer and the mom had to explain it! Teen Vogue didn’t even note the update.
We may have to start keeping track of the original interviews. 👀 👀
Woooow
It's max so I'm not shocked but still just...

The basketball tickets:
You don’t get your partner tickets to your favorite show/sport/concert that they don’t like because you don’t know them. You get the tickets so down the line when they say “yeah I don’t really like X” you can say “what are you talking about? You love X! You’ve been to so many games/shows/concerts!”
It is a long game.

This is a long season. Why does this feel so rushed? As the plot throttles toward Buddie, I can’t help but think…is this the last season?
Because how do you do buddie? It is built up in everyone’s heads. Any plot, there’s probably already a fan fiction that will make it look like you ripped it from AO3. It’s a drama/procedural so the couple can’t be perfect. If the show goes on, their perfect pairing will face issues. And what will the reaction be? Buck would never do that to Eddie! Eddie would never say that to Buck! You’re ruining it.
Add in that TV shows traditionally leave one character hanging. Usually the queer coded ones. The immediate examples that jump to my mind are Raj on The Big Bang Theory and Eric from Boy Meets World. The character has a queer coded relationship with another main character. One of the two gets a hetero normative happy ending while the other stays the quirky, silly “oh you” until the end of time.
Beyond that, shows don’t usually do “victory laps.” There will never be a season of television where all the main characters are fulfilled, happy-go-lucky people.
So, is buddie happening the series closer? Is this a lead up for Buck or Eddie leaving the series? And if it’s none of that, do you trust the writers room?

This is part of my problem with the buddie centric interviewers. The vitriol is at an all time high. It only takes one person struggling for discourse to turn dangerous. ABC/Disney/Ryan Murphy should really do something to tamp this down.
Okay but this is one of the best call outs I've seen in a long fucking time lmao

Same
as a bi man who grew up thinking himself a strictly homosexual teenage boy, because severe daddy issues and attraction to women dont mix. who has only ever had sexual encounters with other men and only realized i was bi after some serious development into my early twenties, i dont need to go around sleeping with multiple women to know if the first woman im ever intimate with is the one i want to be with. i dont need to go around sleeping with multiple men in multiple different positions to decide what my preference in the bedroom is. because im a full grown ass individual who can make informed decisions for myself, despite lack of experience or hindsight. bc thats what being an adult is?!!??
and the idea that a 'baby' bi is being stifled because they choose for themselves to be with one partner, without first sleeping around, is just so fucking.... aggravating.

A few things I’m reflecting on post 8x06:
911onABC Season 7 Season 8 cast/showrunner interviews
At the time the Hamster Wheel comments were made, there were also comments being made about Tommy being an introduction for Buck and teaching him, basically, about the queer community and navigating the dating field. Particularly coming from Oliver in one or two of those podcast interviews. Which was an ick even then.
Lou was only supposed to be in 3 episodes. The reaction to BiBuck and BuckTommy was so positive Lou was kept on and I thought that the queer sensei angle was scrapped. I was wrong.
In regards to #LetBuckFuck…they have the earliest Primetime time slot. Nobody is going to be fucking. Add that to the interviews from the spring - it seems Oliver has wanted Buck to play the field for a very long time.
LOU is the reason we know about the scrapped queer Eddie storyline. He spilled the beans and in so doing added fuel to a fire he didn’t know existed. Buddies should thank him for giving a big piece of legitimacy to their fanon.
For all the queer trope pitfalls Tim Minear wanted to avoid and Oliver being such a Bi rep warrior, it is so so so disappointing to have them write/approve/play an “I can’t date a baby queer” storyline. Especially for a bi character in his 30s. So many other options and they choose the most overdone. Ex: Grey’s has done it twice.
The slap in the face that were the interviews. Lou’s first interview essentially being with a blog on its way to being a news outlet. There being a media blast of Oliver, Oliver/Tim, Ryan, and Oliver/Ryan interviews post airing with established outlets. Honestly, I think it is leading to Buddie canon. The interviewers are mostly and very openly buddie supporters. They obviously aren’t told to not ask about buddie. The mains/show runner being proud and patting themselves on the back while acknowledging the terrible terrible fandom culture. Every single one of them having to set boundaries with fans or take breaks from socials due to fans and yet seemingly leaving Lou out in the cold. Disheartening.
The election: I don’t think the election has any impact on the storyline. For now.

You just have to laugh at the fact they wrote 805 specifically to break our hearts. Not to show a good relationship between two men on television. All the sweet things they had Tommy doing for Buck were only done to slap us in the face. So they could laugh when we got hurt two weeks later. The whole thing was done as a joke at our expense.

I feel gross and used in a way that I haven’t felt since Destiel back in 2020.
This is the type of shit that breaks my spirit a little as a bi woman. Because this is saying to my face “you need to explore your options and that’s the only way you’ll be 100% confident and secure in your future relationships and sexuality.”

Speculation: Tommy offhandedly says something like “I’m never getting married” causing Buck to spiral. By the end, Tommy explains his history, tells Buck ILY, and iterates that he wants to be with him for a long time.

Headcanon: the Buckley parents have never been appraised of Buck’s dating life and this is the first partner they’ve ever seen or heard about.

Bobby sees Buck with a packed bag pulling toiletries out of his locker and asks if he’s going to see Tommy. Babe, he’s staying the whole weekend with that hot pilot!
