Demo Day: Jane Austen Simulator: Pride and Prejudice
Lately I have been downloading and playing some of the new demos uploaded to Steam. I can say for a fact that some of them are very playable. Some are right up my alley and then there are some that I thought I would enjoy and some that I would just pass over. Now I know most of us where probably introduced to Jane Austen when we were children. I know that I had to ready Pride and Prejudice when…

Demo Day: Dead As Disco by Brain Jar Games
Fighting and music? Yes, please! Wow, I found a cool fighting game. Let me introduce you to Dead as Disco. Dead as Disco is a fighting game from Brain Jar Games. As far as I can tell this is the first game the Brain Jar Games has. Dead as Disco is about Charlie Disco a fallen musical icon looking to get the band back together. Charlie must fight the Idols, musical legends and Charlie’s…

Gosh, what has it been, five plus years since I did a written review for my website? I really can’t believe it has been that long. Amazing how time has flown by. A lot of you may have been wondering what happened to that guy that did board…

Another Top 5 Ridiculous Board Games
Another Top 5 Ridiculous Board Games
Back in November of 2019 I wrote an article for five board games that, in my opinion, are totally ridiculous. I’m almost 100% positive that the companies that published these games were probably thinking the same thing that I am. I’m also positive that is why they put these games out because they may be oddly themed goofy looking, and completely . But each and everyone of these games share one…

Who remembers 1991? I know I do. It was actually a pretty good year. The Cincinnati Reds were starting the year off with a championship win from the previous season. I was starting the 9th grade and what a year it was for the comic book industry.
At this point in time I was big into playing video games. Yeah, that’s right I wasn’t playing very many tabletop games other than some Dungeons and Dragons with some kids from school. Well, it was actually Spelljammer, which I still love playing to this day.
So let us jump back into the time machine to take a quick look back at 1991. Pocket LCD games were all the rage; from baseball to wrestling, anything could be played on a handheld system. A gallon of gas cost around $1.12. In music, the grunge movement was started with the release of Nirvana’s Nevermind. The first website launch on August 6th and was created by CERN and I turned 14 years old.
#5: MC Hammer’s Rap-A-Round & Vanilla Ice Electronic Rap
Tiger Electronics/2-5 players/MSRP: $19.99 International Games/2-4 players/MSRP: $14.99
Oh, the 90’s. What an interesting decade it was. The beginning of the 1990’s came in with some rhymes and some awesome outfits (let’s just hope they don’t come back any time soon).
In the year 1991 both M.C. Hammer & Vanilla Ice both had games released with some sort of rapping tone to it. I couldn’t decide which one to add because both are unique so I just added both because of their musical applications.
Do you remember when it was “Hammer Time”? I know I do. If you missed out and you like rapping and just happen to have a cassette player laying around then maybe M.C. Hammer’s Rap A Round is just for you. In this game player’s will rap to win. Player’s will pop in the cassette and follow directions from M.C. Hammer and will try to finish up songs with their own lyrics.
Yo, the ‘Ice Man’ hits you with an awesome rap game in Vanilla Ice Electronic Rap game. This unique style game comes with a special beat box microphone. Players will play rhyming cards to fill out song lines. Every time a line is filled, that player will rap the line to the beat box mic. When all the song lines are filled the game ends and the player that has earned the most points rapping wins the game.
#4: Read My Lips, Kid!
Pressman Toy Corp./3-6 players/MSRP: $12.99
I think I may remember the original version of Read My Lips from 1990. And there isn’t much to a game like this. Actually it is pretty simple to play.
One player in the game will be give twenty seconds to silently mouth off a word or a set of words to the other players. These words could be names of people, places, titles of movies or television shows, or lyrics.
The first player to guess two sayings from each of the six categories in the game wins.
#3: Don’t Drop Mama!
Parker Brothers/1-4 players/MSRP: $16.77
Are you ready to join the Tortellini Brothers in hoisting their mama to new heights? In the dexterity game of Don’t Drop Mama! you can do just that. The object of the game is to keep adding Tortellini Brothers to the stack without dropping mama. To make it even harder, player’s will turn a knob on the acrobatic base raising the Tortellini Brother pieces up higher.
#2: Captain Planet and the Planeteers
Parker Brothers/2-5 players/MSRP: $12.99
Were you a “planeteer” back in the 90’s? I was always rooting for Captain Planet and his environmentalist pals, the Planeteers.
In Captain Planet & the Planeteers players will team up in this semi-cooperative game to save the world. Each player will move about the board using cards to solve the environmental disasters that plague the landscape. However, the Eco-villains will get involved in making clean up worse. Don’t worry, Captain Planet will lend a hand now and then to help fight the horrible fate before us.
#1: Tornado Rex
Parker Brothers/ 2-4 players/MSRP: $21.99
In Tornado Rex players will try to survive their way to the top of the mountain. They will need to stay out of the way of Tornado Rex, a clear top that shoots from the top of the mountain to knock the players off the board.
Players will draw cards that will give them directions of what to do on their turn. This could be moving a step or two forward, backward, or even switching spots with another player. Hopefully drawing movement cards will get a player to the top first but beware of the Tornado Rex card that will release the monstrous spinning top.
If you have played Fireball Island then you will realize that Tornado Rex feels almost like it.
1991 had some really awesome games and these were just a few unique ones of the year. It is amazing how far we have come since 1991, I think I say this about any year of games that I write about.
1991 was a great year for musical games. Tiger Electronics were known for handheld games and other electronic toys. M.C. Hammer Rap A Round wasn’t their first foray into musical board gaming as a few years previous they had released a game called Notability. Even in 1991 they released a junior version of Notability.
Well, I will end it right here. Again, thank you for checking out may look back at the games of a certain year.
See you next time.

Kickstarter Review: Of Knights and Ninjas
I play a lot of card games. Not just throughout the year but every single day. I average at least five card games a day.
Now the reason why I can get so many games in a day is that I like playing relatively quick games to play. To me that is one of the key things about a good card game. Another is theme.
Not every game can check those boxes. Which is all well and good but at least one has…

Retro Gaming: 5 Games from 1984
Retro Gaming: 5 Games from 1984
I love playing those games of the past. I didn’t get to play a ton of board games as a child. As an adult I try to play a game or two every day. That’s including solo games or even digital.
For the past few weeks I have written several articles on vintage games from 1962 and 1988. In this series I am writing about these retro or vintage games to introduce them to everyone young and old. I also…

Retro Gaming: 5 Games from 1962
I love playing those games of the past. I didn’t get to play a ton of board games as a child. Until 1994 I played very few board games other than Chess and sometimes Don’t Break the Ice, which I would play at my grandmother’s house.
I was introduced to modern board gaming about seven years ago and it makes me happy to have been brought into the now. In my first article, in this series, I…

Retro Gaming: 5 Games from 1988
I love playing those games of the past. I didn’t get to play a ton of board games as a child. Until about seven or eight years ago I never really saw myself playing board games as I played Magic: The Gathering since 1994.
But now that been introduced to modern board gaming I have now jumped into a time machine placing myself back in time. In my next series of articles I am going to introduce…

Top 5 Ridiculous Board Games For Christmas
Top 5 Ridiculous Board Games For Christmas
I love board games and I love shopping for board games. For many, many decades one can stroll down the board game aisle of any major retailer and find some awesome games. However, there are those games that seem odd, strange, or just plain stupid looking.
Most of these games are geared for children and to us adults that just look utterly ridiculous. I’m sure that the games on my list are probably…
