Let myself have a little brain break to design some ballroom fashion for Bobbin, inspired by some shenanigans with friends. She's so cute, my heart is melting a little bit. Look at my pretty little princess!

Sometimes the universe says "we should draw a doodle of Bobbin taking a selfie with Magolor and Knuckle Joe after the Lor crashes into Dreamland", and so we do that. Never drawn two of these characters before, it was fun! This could be the start of a beautiful (and complicated) friendship!

Name: Bobbin Bobble

Species: Arachknit (Patchland Arachnid)

Age: 15 

Height: 30 cm (1 and a 1/2 Kirbys tall)

Occupation: Mage in Training

Homeland: Patchland (Kirby's Epic Yarn)

Hobbies: Crochet, spellcasting, reading, writing, baking

Friends: Prince Fluff, Tiff, Tuff, Meta Knight, Sword Knight, Blade Knight, Knuckle Joe, Sirica, Benikage, Kirby, Magolor (slightly complicated)

Family: Spinstra (mother), Uncle Woolfgang (uncle), Yin Yarn (uncle) 

Woven from the love of the Weaver Witch, Spinstra, Bobbin is nothing less than magical! Aiming to be the greatest mage to ever come out of Patchland, this little spider has her work cut out for her. Given the reputation of her evil sorcerer uncle, Yin Yarn, and his multiple attempts to take over Patchland and Dreamland alike, Bobbin finds herself struggling to break out of his shadow. Regardless, she's determined to make her own path in the world as a great spellcaster, and with her friends by her side, she's bound to get there eventually. 

Since running away to Dreamland to ask for Kirby's help defeating her uncle (post the events of Epic Yarn), she's become good friends with its residents, alongside finding a mentor in the legendary hero Meta Knight. She and Prince Fluff find themselves coming over often and ending up in all sorts of shenanigans, from fighting Nightmare's monsters to travelling to distant lands in need of their help. On their quieter days, Bobbin can be found practicing her magic, combat training, or partaking in Dreamland's book club and senior center for some fiber arts time with the elders. 

Bobbin's magic is channeled through strands of yarn and her crochet hook (which acts as a foci as well as a melee weapon). She can rearrange the yarn wrapped around her torso and in her buns into different shapes to aid her as tools in battle, commonly using webs to catch people. Trouble is, once she's out of yarn, she's limited in what she can do. Occasionally she will also use this to reshape Fluff, acting similarly to the ability portals in Epic Yarn. She mostly acts as support, empowering her friends. But when she's needed most, Bobbin will step up to the plate to be just as much as a full fledged hero as those around her.

For heroes capable of using the copy ability, Bobbin has three potential abilities to provide. If you use her crochet hook, you get Needle. If you use one of her crafts, you get Artist. If you get it from her directly, you get Beam.

Height differences are so funny sometimes. So, this weekend I had a number of conversations with friends about the heights of our OCs. A lot of us like to measure them by Kirbys, and Kirby is 8 inches tall (at least according to the anime and Smash Bros). Bobbin stands at about a Kirby and a half tall, so she's 12 inches tall, exactly 1 foot tall (or 30 centimeters if you use metric like most of the world xD). And this is a perfectly reasonable height to be in the Kirby universe!

But naturally, most of the OCs Bobbin has befriended are significantly larger than her, and I think that's funny as heck. XD I keep saying she's gonna get a complex. I think, the greatest example is my friend @rosiegardenlove 's boy Shade Knight. Shade here is very tall, but he's closer to Kirby sized in drone form. So, Shade is the first person Bobbin met in the Nexus, and he was a drone when that happened. After using some of her chaining magic to give him her energy to reform, he's standing here as this massive knight in shining armor, and given she is a huge knight fangirl, this is, just so funny looking back on it. XD I guess her magic does come off as a lot more impressive when you look at the difference here. I just had to draw it. XD Might be the best I've ever drawn Shade.

Spinstra, the Weaver Witch

So you've met Bobbin before, time to meet her mom! This is Spinstra, a weaver witch and resident healer in Patchland. In need of some help with rips, frays, burns, or cuts? Spinstra patches it all! While she may seem quiet and cold at first, Spinstra's got a very warm heart and a soft spot for children. While her large, spidery appearance may seem a tough frightening, know that she is incredibly docile and means no harm.

I was inspired by both the long horned orb weaver and the peacock spider with her design. The long prongs on the back of her body have been fashioned into a loom that she can rotate her front have to weave on. She makes all sorts of things, from rugs to blankets to tapestries. Bobbin can occasionally be found napping back here on particularly rough nights. That said, this function of her design once served a very different purpose, one Spinstra isn't a fan of.

Bobbin Bobble - Mage in Training

At long last, I have a fully lined and colored piece for her! So for folks that are new here, hi, this is Bobbin! She's my Kirby OC, and her story takes place in the worlds of both Kirby's Epic Yarn and Kirby Right Back At Ya, with a splash of other games getting intermingled in there.

I've been having so much fun crafting her and her story, and after taking some time to think about it, I've opted to open a sideblog for her and my Kirby shenanigans. You can find it here at @bobbins-patchland. I hope you'll consider joining me there for a little fun and storytelling!
