Question:

Sphinx ran the society of the evening star and the knights of the dawn. Therefore, why was he surprised that Hank and Gloria were spies?

We supposed to believe he didn't have some sort of master list and just sent spies into his organization to report to...him? But when he lost control of one, he didn't remember/know/bother to find out???

Soo Dylan (falls of parapet guy) has a relic. His mom is clinging on to him, and violet notices the relic, we get the relic backstory, and she cautiously truth him because "if his mom loves him he can't be that bad". But then his mom wants him to be a healer...? But he wants to be a rider for glory???

Also, when the marked ones meet under the tree, they say they've lost two cadets, Sutherland and Luperco, who's names were read earlier on the parapet death role. So what happened to Dylan? Black sheep of the marked ones?

Was reflecting on ROTDS and Virgil's betrayal, and it hit me. I feel like Virgil is Judas.

For those who don't know, in the Bible, Judas is one of the disciples who betrays Jesus and lets the Pharisees capture him, ultimately leading to the crucifixion.

We all know that rotds is filled with religious metaphors, and I have a feeling Virgil is another, as he, a friend, betrays the main heros, and ushers in the main chaos.

So light is good and dark is bad and all that, but the dark creatures actually treat people nicely and the fairies just compare you to ants and bitch...

And no one talks about the fairy queen just killing all the humans who tread on her land. Like you could have just gotten a fence? Had your guardians say nope? But no, mass murder was the only way to protect your realm.

And Rinesmay, who legit set a death trap for humans, watched them die, and blamed it on them...

Dark did do more heinous, obvious crimes, but I feel like light also was bad, and it was just glazed over, especially in rotds.

See the sad thing about dragonwatch is it really could have all been prevented. Agad shows up and is like we've tried everything, you two are our last line of defense. Like really??? Everyone else is on missions and you couldn't replace them??? We know you knights have a whole ton of people, and the last thing you think of is sending two teens out? Agad must go to Soaring Cliffs, and the caretaker needs to be human/mortal. SEND SOMEONE ELSE TO THE CLIFFS.

And then they get there, and they're told the first thing to do is to see the fair folk. And he's like you all should have checked with me cause this is bs, just go grab the staff. And you're telling me they exhausted all their resources. AT THIS POINT, THEY DIDN’T EVEN TRY.

Imagine being their parents. "Hey we didn't call you or tell you, but your kids have to spend year at a dragon sanctuary because it's the end of the world", and then you find out that there really were so many other options.

I get plot and all that, but they've at least committed several different child abuse felonies that this point, and it really does seem everyone treats Seth and Kendra like magic-fix-it-genies, who go where you tell them and do what you want. I wish we had seen more of them, and their mental health, and the huge toll it would have taken, them feeling let down, especially with everything that happens to Seth.

People don't talk enough about the vocab in the Fablehaven books, and the best part is that it's completely random what words the teenage characters do and don't know. Seth instantly understands "garrote" and doesn't blink an eye at "schizoid," but he's completely lost when he hears "step pyramid." The Sphinx literally has to trace the pattern with his fingers before Seth understands.
