A slightly too detailed headcanon about Connor's zen garden:

Even after he rids himself of Amanda, the zen garden still exists in Connor's mind. But without her there to keep the plants in check, it becomes more and more overgrown.

It essentially becomes a mirror of Connor's thoughts and feelings, a reflection of his innermost self. Depending on what is on his mind at a certain point in time, there will be different flowers in his garden depending on their meaning.

Is he missing something or someone? Wormwood.

Is he feeling cheerful? Crocuses.

Is he feeling brave and bold? Delphinium.

It's important to note that this is also strongly affected by his personal association. Red roses, for example, remind him more of Amanda than of falling in love, so that's what they represent in his mind.

Speaking of roses, the little island in the middle of the garden is absolutely overgrown with them to the point where it's impossible to set foot on it. However, the more Connor confronts his trauma, the less inaccessible it gets, like he's reclaiming part of his mind while learning to cope with the abuse he has lived through.
