I know that Peter’s Jackson Lord of the Rings trilogy technically has flaws but also….it doesn’t. It’s perfect.

Which path should he choose?

The path of the warrior, the path of the scholar, or the path of the artist?

i don’t think henry was naive enough to believe that their relationship wouldn’t become more for alex, i just think he was hoping alex would be too much of a coward to address it like how he views himself to be. (movie specific)
i find myself wishing a lot of these shots in the film stayed on people’s faces a LITTLE longer so we could see their reaction to what the people around them are saying, but in the second hotel room scene where henry visits texas to see alex and zahra walks in on them, she asks alex if asking him to stop seeing henry would make any difference and alex doesn’t allow even a second of contemplation before saying no. i was about to say that i wish we could see a visible reaction from henry there, but the more i think about it, the more it makes SENSE that he’d keep his expression trained. we know he knows how to do that—he’s lived his entire life doing that—but alex was so quick with it. so certain. henry looks like he’s dissociating immediately after alex says that which is probably about the fact that zahra is freaking out and that they’ve been outed, but looking at it abstractly, what if that’s a glimpse of what will happen later on the dock scene? what if that’s that same dissociation we see on henry’s face when he knows damn well that alex is about to say he loves him? what if that’s his first sign? alex sounds so fucking sure of himself and he sounds so sure about this relationship and what if this is henry trying to act like he didn’t say that?
henry isn’t stupid. henry isn’t naive. henry knows how passionate alex is about everything he does and of COURSE his passion and adoration for henry would only grow when nurtured. the dock scene wasn’t unprecedented or out of the blue, but it was something henry looks like he’d been dreading and i think that’s very much because he was hoping alex would keep any stronger feelings he had for henry secret just as henry was prepared to do. he didn’t expect them not to exist, not really. he was just hoping alex wouldn’t be the brave one.

do y'all even know how much i hate being an "elder queer" at 40? a whole goddamn generation before me was wiped out by a plague that politicians deemed not their problem bc it was killing the "right" people. like. this was OPENLY STATED. i spent a large chunk of my childhood going to funerals. nevermind the fact that killing queer people for being queer wasn't codified into law as a hate crime until i was a junior in high school.
i should NOT be an elder queer, i should be middle at most. i am a middle aged queer. most of the elder queers died.
when i was growing up i didn't go to pride parades, i went to pride marches. because that's 100% what they were in the 80s and 90s.
from the absolute bottom of my heart, LEARN OUR FUCKING HISTORY. a generation was nearly wiped out so you young queers could be here. don't let that have been in vain, please.
