Here's to the next 1,000
Today we hit 1,000 spaces.  29 countries. 223 cities.
I was thinking this morning about the very first meeting I had last year with (the fabulous) Marissa Feinberg, owner of Greenspaces NYC and Loosecubes Host numero uno.  I presented her with this crazy idea about getting a bunch of people together to share workspace with each other. People who had space and people who needed it. People whose backs were hurting from working at Starbucks.  People who were sick of commuting. People who were seeking moments of connection and friendship to brighten the work day.  People who said, “I want more out of my life and my work.”
And she was up for it.
I figured we could make a site and people could get to work. I started out trying to get more productive, and what’s happened is my life has been transformed not by all the work I’ve banged out but by the relationships I’ve made with all of you. You are open. You are passionate. You are making your own rules…and in so doing, you are making our world so so beautiful.
Yes, the search needs work.  Yes, the pages could load faster.  But we couldn’t ask for a better group of people to be on this adventure with.
You’ve made my life more full. My days more productive. My evenings more fun. Thank you for your generosity of spirit, your willingness to share, and your willingness to believe that it is possible to change the way the world works.
You guys are making it happen, one day and one conversation, one shared experience at a time.  We may be a small movement now, but we’re growing stronger every day.  I can feel it.

Daily chart: how do people spend their time? Each day the French spend twice as long eating as do the Americans, according to a report from the OECD. The Japanese work the longest hours, but waste the least time on unpaid chores.

Great article from the peeps over at The Cube in London. This kind of thinking is exactly what The Grovehas going on in New Haven. We are creating a space for connection and the creation/sharing of ideas that create the new economy we live in.
Coworking spaces are more than just space, convenience, or a random unification of desks. They are places where economy is being produced, new sectors are being created, and unlikely people are creating interesting communities. As companies and individual entrepreneurs search for ways to create innovation, our spaces should be a haven for people with ideas. They should act as idea laboratories where people can experiment with new processes of developing and implementing ideas. All of the coworking spaces around the world have a chance to create a significant impact in building an economy for their town, city, or country.
Coworking spaces bring together people of different thought processes, experiences, and talents. The interaction between people of such diverse backgrounds makes our spaces a breeding ground for strong idea communities, which will then lead to the creation of new sectors and industries.
Coworking spaces provide a faster economy force start-up businesses. One of the most important ingredients in building an economically sustainable business is contacts and community. We are creating tribes of people who are helping each other connect faster.

Treehugger Founder Graham Hill recently held a competition to redesign his humble abode. Called “LifeEdited”, the platform is where crowdsourcing meets efficiency and design for living. Case and point, Graham’s NYC apartment. Pictured above, the winning design makes the best of 400 square feet of Graham’s Manhattan real estate. This fall, the winning design will become reality.
However, this initiative is about much more than city life. In his PopTech! talk, Graham talks about the desire to build a duplicable model for a cleaner lifestyle. We’re talking digitization, simplification and justification of what’s within our live-able environment, and making sure it’s needed. A lot like a movement, LifeEdited shows that it’s possible to feel more free with less.
