These days, it Feels like he's got to keep moving, gotta keep busy. Often he'd drop by to check on things with the Restoration Committee to see if there's any new developments with their search, but Riku finds himself staying a while to assist and help out.

✧ ✦ ✧ ― What? Riku stares after the King who was walking ahead of him. Trust Mickey to say something sagely in this circumstance.

“But your majes- Mickey, how can you say that? At a time like this...” He’s right though. He was always right. Back when they found themselves in Castle Oblivion, the reason why he didn’t see any other living soul in the memories of the Worlds he’s been in (apart from all the Heartless) was because he never truly cared much for exploring them, let alone making connections with the inhabitants within. He’s regretted that now.

Though, its not like he had a choice in the matter. The instance he was able to leave the Islands, Riku felt like he hit the ground running. He barely had any time to stop and smell the flowers. There was always a task at hand, a goal to be reached, find the Princesses of Heart, find Kairi, atone for his mistakes, defeat the Organization, defeat Xemnas... There were always problems that needed to be solved.

And now... they needed to find Sora. It’s almost been a year and it feels like they were getting nowhere. They were reaching dead ends.

Riku stops following Mickey for a moment before sighing heavily to let his tense shoulders go slack. He stares up at the sky, forlorn.

“ *sigh* Maybe you’re right Mickey... maybe I do need to slow down. ”

“we’ll be friends forever, won’t we, Riku?”

✧ ✦ ✧ ― Riku blinks at him for one incredulous moment. That had caught him off guard.

If he were younger, he would have snarkily replied without skipping a beat: ‘What kind of a question is that? Of course we would, Sora. We’ll be together forever. No matter what!’

His young, brash and foolish self would be none the wiser. How naïve and self-assured he was back then. He knows now that that answer... can’t necessarily be true anymore. Nothing is set in stone. So many things have changed   ― there’s tectonic shifts, things drifting apart, and there are also things you kinda have to grow out of.

No, he’s not going to answer in that way. Besides, he shouldn’t patronize Sora. Not when he asks him such a vulnerable question this way, so gives this a thought.

At this, Riku’s eyes soften and he gives Sora a reassuring smile, placing a hand on top of his friend’s spikey head.

“ We will. ” Riku nods, “ Or at least, we can try our best to be. " There really was nothing for it. “ But you can always count on me to have your back. No matter what, Sora. ”

✧ ✦ ✧ ― The presence of an enemy lets him summon his Keyblade without hesitation by his outstretched arm. Riku could feel the thrum of the handle when the Nobody approached... and yet--

“ What does that even mean? ” for a moment he paused, a confused frown creasing his young face with a tilt of his head. His blade tipped low when his gut tells him there was a lack of any aggression coming from the other, thus losing any necessity to defend or retaliate.

He waves away his weapon then crosses his arms. “ What are you even looking for? ”

Should he be suspicious? If an organization member was looking for... whatever it is that they’re looking for, then it must be important. Right?
