ithink they should make a technology where you can cough on peoples internet profiles and a device on their phone would replicate your germs and vent it into their space, then we could spread sickness very easily via the internet 鈾ワ笍 this would help to make the world a lot worse

Green Day or AFI?
I've left this in my ask for a few days because it is so impossibly hard to answer. These are the two bands who are sort of like my parents, my entry point and my deepest obsession. I love them for the same reasons - they came to me right as I was at a pivotal point in my adolescence, they both had back catalogues that I could hoover up and get lost in, lead singers I could fantasise about and whole worlds wrapped up in their albums and lore. And yet the reasons they have let me down are more or less the same too. I haven't connected with an AFI album since 2013's Burials, I haven't connected with a Green Day album since 2012's Dos!. They've both continued to put albums out, of course, and I've continued to buy them, but I find myself less and less interested in what they're putting out. Also there's the live thing. I've seen Green Day three times now: in 2009, 2022 and 2024. In 2009 I was 16, seeing my favourite band for the first time and it was magical; in 2022 I'd had them cancel twice on me and was seeing them in a big park, right down the front (which was amazing, don't get me wrong, being that close to Billie Joe was like a dream) where they played essentially the same set I saw in 2009 but without the deeper cuts. Basically a greatest hits set, with the 5 albums released in the interim period completely forgotten. In 2024 I almost didn't go but was lured by the setlist (Dookie and American Idiot in full). Hearing those albums was great, obviously - I cried three separate times - but a big park gig just doesn't offer the connection I want from a live show. I've seen AFI only twice: in 2010 and 2017. 2010 was the last time they headlined in Europe and it was a dream come true for me, 17 years old and seeing this band who meant so much to me. I even defied my parents curfew orders and stayed out til midnight to secure Davey's autograph. The next time they were opening for Deftones, a support slot in an arena which just wasn't long enough. I poured my whole self into Burials and then they just didn't tour it - I haven't given myself to an AFI project since because it feels like a waste of time if they're only going to perform it in the US.
So really, it's both. Hard to choose between them, hard to stay in love with them after so much neglect but hard to say which has meant more to me because they were both so, so important to me growing up. But in terms of which band has the most songs where I can go 'oh shit, I haven't heard this song in forever, I need to go and put this album on immediately'................ Green Day takes it.
