Verdi`s Requiem Mass was performed January 1942 in Teresin by 150  prisoners. Thay got one copy of the score and used it to escape misery and suffer of the concentration camp. There were at least 16 concerts, than many of the performers  perished in gas chambers. Olivier Messiaen wrote the `Quatuor pour la fin du temps` -  "Quartet for the End of Time" in 1939-1940 in prisoner-of-war camp in Lower Silesia. The Quartet was first performed in January 1941 to an audience of prisoners and prison guards, with the composer playing a poorly maintained upright piano in freezing conditions.
