Today’s rescue: a dog bite victim. He will be rehabbed but not released due to his invasive status. He will be raised by a family who has experience with keeping house sparrows!!

I volunteer for Chicago Bird Collision Monitors (please check them out even if you aren’t local, they are freaking fantastic!) so I get a lot of calls for rescuing + transporting injured and orphaned birds. This call I got was my first for a chicken.

She was super sweet and comfortable with me and her feathers were clean and in good condition, but she was absolutely skin and bones. This makes me think she was definitely hand raised, but I also think she might be a meat bird. Maybe she was dumped when her family realized this. I know local farm store chains (Tractor Supply, Farm and Fleet, Rural King, etc) are notorious for selling meat birds as non-meat birds.

She will be finding her forever home shortly. ❤️ I sincerely think chickens are the most misunderstood and mistreated animals on the planet so it’s nice to be able to help one out, especially outside of my own flock.
