Gladion nodded a grim look on his face as he did so. “Part of me is glad to know that, she doesn’t deserve to be remembered in any way or fashion but another part of me doesn’t want what she did to be swept under the rug. I don’t want people years later to say that none of this happened. The ministry already hides too much from the public people deserve to know what she did. The disgusting crimes against humanity that they did.”

He gave a weak smile at Scorpius’s cheerful tone, “he helped me learn how to cast the Patronus charm.” He laughed as the memory feeling fondness from it, “I was trying to learn the spell by myself, locked myself in an abandoned classroom to do it when he came in- easily unlocked the door like it was nothing. I thought he might have punished me for it but he didn’t. He sat down and helped me.” Gladion sighed softly, nodding his head in agreement with the boy’s words about how badly his older professor was treated and all due to his condition.

A bark like laughed left him- becoming startled by hearing the cheer coming from the unlikely mouth of a Malfoy. Throwing his head back he laughed until there were tears in his eyes. “Oh, Merlin! Stop- please! I can’t take it! I can almost feel your ancestors rolling in their graves from your words alone.”

He shivers at Gladion’s words, but he can’t help but agree with them. He remembers the betrayal he felt when his dad had sat him down at the tender age of ten and told him everything; that he was a death eater, the things he almost did, the things he did... Scorpius had spent several angry years wishing he didn’t know. Looking back though, it was necessary that he knew so young. That way he was never tempted to make the same mistakes. 

“They definitely deserve to know,” he says, peering at Gladion, lost in his thoughts. “But, you know, it’s no fun living with that stuff following you around your whole life either. You deserve to live without that scandal hanging over your head too. Maybe it’s not such a bad thing.”

He smiles at Gladion, his interest piqued. “What’s your patronus? Wait, let me guess, I’ve been working on it. ” He leans backward slightly, studying his subject with a sudden intensity as he puts all his brainpower into the task at hand. “It can’t be something lame...” he mutters, half to himself. He snaps his fingers suddenly, as though bringing himself out of a trance. “You’re kind of... canine. Maybe something clever like a jackal or fox?”

He flashes a beaming smile, pleased and surprised that someone was reacting to him with something other than uncomfortable shock. “That’s the goal! Every morning, I ask myself... what can I do today that would’ve gotten me burned off the wall 20 something years ago? And then I do it. It’s my own little way of repaying the debt I feel I owe to the world for being a Malfoy. It works... most of the time.” He blinks rapidly, breaking eye contact. He suddenly feels sheepish for oversharing. “But I’m sure you kind of understand.”

something I’ve never seen mentioned when anyone is talking abt Harry is his love and aptitude for mystery. They didn’t capture how obsessive he is in the movies. He latches onto a hunch and runs it into the GROUND, often to the bewilderment and dismay of both Ron AND Hermione. He talks their ears off to the point where they pretty much tell him to shut up abt it. They always douubt him,  but he’s right almost every single time.

 That’s why when I see ppl talking abt how he should’ve been a professor at Hogwarts I’m like???? Harry? Doing the same thing every year with no sense of danger, mystery, or justice tied to it? MY Harry James Potter?? No. He needs to be solving a mystery. It drives him, it distracts him from his trauma, it allows him to have a normal life outside of work. To me, Auror is the only job for him.
